  • A commuting substitute for my r15. Please advise.

    Hi,

    I have a zma (2004) and a r15 (2009) already.

    1. I am in the need for a bike that has superior ride quality, ergonomics (only for commuting in Delhi traffic, I do over a 120 kms daily) and it should be a light bike both in terms of feel and on the wallet. (It is mighty painful to make my r15 go through that everyday.)

    2. Performance is also required, but not too important. I do not want one of those 99.99999cc sissies.

    3. Fuel economy and style quotient come in next, I get about 45-50 kmpl from my r15 in traffic. The bike should should look half decent - I'm not expecting a Triumph Daytona 675 in terms of looks.

    4. Reliability should have been first :P - I would prefer a jap bike to a Hindustani one when it comes to this, they might not full fill my other needs though, the japs that is. It should be virtually 'maintenance free', i do not want to be running around in fear of my chain running dry or coolant level being too low or that weired noise that comes from the right side. I just DO NOT want that (have my r15 to worry about). I want to get to my destination in comfort and speed without bothering too much about potholes or the reasons stated above. With the mileage I put in a month 4xxx+ kms, the bike should last me for at least some time to come.

    I do not intend to sell the bike, I never do.

    Please advise urgently

    Thanking you

    A Unicorn or Fazer sounds good for you.

      How about an Yamaha SZ-X/Discover 150.. they are lighter, got enough punch for city traffic.

        I think Suzuki GS 150R will suit your requirements.It has got a refined ultra smooth engine+6 speed gear box.Build quality is also good.Gives descent average.

        D.I.Y-Valve clearance setting RTR180
        D.I.Y-RTR180 brake fluid replacing/brake bleeding
        D.I.Y-RTR180 brake pad replacing/cleaning
        Exploded view of Mikuni BS-29 carb

        A motorcycle functions entirely in accordance with the laws of reason, and a study of the art of motorcycle maintenance is really a miniature study of the art of rationality itself.

          At what budget are you planning the bike for??

          Are you looking at 125cc or 150cc.

          If mileage is your criteria then the 125cc's rule here & there are lighter both in handling & on your pocket. Moreover they offer a better performance than the 100cc's. In this segment you can try honda stunner, suzuki slingshot, SS125 & P135.
          But for mileage i would recommend the slingshot. It has got a very good pulling power & mileage figures. The riding position is also good.

          But if you are looking at the 150cc's then the SZ & discover fulfill your requirements. You can also consider the unicorn/dazzler & GS150R as alternatives.

            Please chose between these..

            * Dazzler
            * Hunk (dual disc)
            * Yamaha SZ-X

            my personal vote is with Hunk (dual disc) though being in costliest side bu having Honda engine would mean a really low maintainable bike secondly good power output compare to SZ and better mileage compare to FZ-16.. Hunk being HH has advantage of service and spare compare to Suzuki. Unlike ZMA, hunk's spares are really cheap by the way..

            Dazzler is almost the same setup as hunk itself just having 17" wheels but personally I like the look of hunk more than dazzler..

              Cost of the bike is not an issue.

              Was thinking on the grounds of the:

              1) Honda 125 (stunner, though I heard that it has 4 speeds some where) or 150 (dazzler).

              2) HeroHonda 150 (hulk). Does it have 18" wheels? What are the advantages of a larger diameter?

              3) Bajaj 135 (pulsar).

              Do advise on the bike that has the best ride quality i.e can take bad roads the best.

              Thank you once again

                  But isn't there already a shortage of spares for some of the HH Bikes already? Considering that he rides 4k+ Kms per month, he might need some spares sooner than many do. Go for a 125 cc like the Slingshot. It gives you adequate power and enough mileage.

                    @Guru_DTSi

                    There is an advantage with HH 150cc segment..

                    * HH achiever / HH CBZ eXtreme / HH Hunk / honda Unicorn / Honda Dazzler

                    They share a lot of same n exact spare

                    Secondly, there are to many HH service center.. One having shortage, will allow is user to find another one..

                    HH service network is better than Honda or Yamaha as per number though (yes not all HH service center is good)

                    Considering that he rides 4k+ Kms per month
                    Unless he gets in to any accident, spare with honda or HH product which he wuld need is Engine Oil (after marker is always a better idea) / Air Filter / Clutch Place / Chain Link / Break pad's / Tires (not about HH) / Clutch and accelerator cable..

                    Most of these are usual spare and available

                    There is those odd need of warranty about certain usual parts like Tail lamp or electrical or such, shortage is problem for those in any bike (emailing to company helps)
                    Catch me @ Orkut..

                          Test Ride

                          Test drove the hh hunk and the dazzler today.

                          They seem quite similar in most aspects.

                          What is the difference between 18" and 17" rims pros - cons?

                          The only thing I felt was the hulk feeling better over bumps and speed breakers.

                          Will be going for the 125 segment TD's tomorrow.

                          The twister (100cc I think) did not seem too bad considering my needs. Will ride that too.

                          Will update asap.

                            First of all.. Its Hunk not Hulk.

                              I do not have any other option da, running my car for that much would drain much more than my wallet in Delhi traffic.
