I am planning to get a gearless scooter for my wife next month. My primary requirements are as below.

    1. Scooter should not be heavy, it should not be so heavy that putting centre stand is difficult. [E.g I struggle to put centre stand on Activa].
    2. Scooter should be trouble free and should not give needless issues.
    3. Sufficient storage space under the seat.[Should be able to store the helmet]. Storage space at the front would be a bonus.
    4. Should be easy to drive for a lady.
    5. I am not bothered about mileage. The scooter will not travel more than 15-20 kms on a daily basis. [Wife will take it to office, grocery shops etc..that's it]

That's it. These are very simple requirements.

I have ruled out Activa and Access as I feel that these are heavy scooters. I like Activa though, me and my brother have abused it like anything and it still runs fine.

I have considered the following scooters for a TD along with my wife.

    1. Honda Aviator [Need to check if it's as heavy as Activa. If so, it will be ruled out]
    2. TVS Wego
    3. Hero Moto Pleasure.

I believe that Aviator shares the same engine as that of Activa. Not sure why it's costs more than Activa.

What TVS Wego and Hero Moto Pleasure? Any reviews on them? On the net I have come across some starter motor trouble with Hero Moto Pleasure.

Do I need to consider other scooters? say Dio or Scooty?

    Cheers

Among the given choices(Aviator, Wego or Pleasure) , i think Wego would suit more for your wife, sir. However, I seriously recommend that you take a test drive of Dio and share what you felt about it. And yes, the Aviator is a bit heavy(I don't see most ladies riding it).About the Pleasure, remember; it's no longer HeroHonda. Maybe, it's wiser to wait for a while till the brand picks up some reputation even though the Pleasure is the same. And , HONDA, is always a Honda!
[Please consider this as a noob's polite opinion; I'm no expert.]

        @rawpower_87

I have not had Dio in my list at all as I think it's a decade old vehicle and not sure if Honda have done any upgrade to that vehicle in the last 10 year. Does it have the same engine as in Activa/Aviator?

Currently I have shortlisted Wego and Scooty Streak.

@kwacker; Do you know what that Yamaha scooter is? I am planning to get a scooter for my wife in the next 2 months. If Yamaha are going to display the scooter in Auto-Expo 2012(Jan), it could be next summer before the vehicle can make it to the market. Not really sure if we could wait till then.

Im not an expert either but here's what I think, no offence to HMSI fans out there-
Honda's scooters have atrocious waiting periods, not to mention sparse spare availabilities in a few towns owing to high demand. Their attitude towards scooter customers is also one they should be ashamed of, with peoples' anecdotes of how they've actually been shooed out of the showroom(I have my own experience of something similar). What I have come to believe is simple, there are currently two options in the market -
1)The TVS wego, tvs having decent customer service, and the scooter having nifty features.
2)The Suzuki Access, aging, but ample power and arguably faster than a couple of 100cc bikes out there too.
The Wego scores on the looks and features departments(look at the white one) suzuki on the engine.

Thanks for the response. Yes, Honda have a significant waiting period for Activa. The last I heard was that in Chennai the waiting period was 3 months. This was about a month back. I don't think they have a big waiting period for Aviator. Having said that I don't think I am considering any Honda vehicles here primarily due to the fact that both Activa and Aviator will be a bit heavy from a handling perspective for my wife.

This weekend, am planning a test ride of TVS Wego and the TVS Scooty Streak. Most probably will choose either of these two.

Will be happy to consider Dio as well(assuming that the waiting period is not long)

My wife has been driving Pleasure for last 6 yrs and at times even i use it. Its very good scoot and the best part is that the engine is same as the one in Activa or Dio. Another thing that goes for pleasure is the storage space below the seat and in front. I have always got good mileage with the scoot and had very low maintenance on it too. I suggest the Pleasure for your wife. TVS is not that smooth as compared to the honda's.

Wego has less power...its suitable if u ride slow...Access is the only scooter which got bike like ride...and more over its suzuki engine !

                  My opnion
I own a Wego myself. Pretty much satisfied with it. I ride it locally & was purchased for my wife. She took ride on Dio, Activa, Scooty Pep & the HH one too. Finally we agreed on Wego. I wanted something different. I knew that it wasn't going to be a primary vehicle for us as my P220 does the honours for the same. No ppoint in buysing Acess purely because we are not going to ride the scooter extensively. If an only if you believe that the vehicle is going to be run for 15kms avg daily then I would recommend Access as it has the bigger CC advantage. Honda activa is just too ubiquitous The best feature i like about Wego is that I don't need to open the seat for filling petrol It's quite peppy & carries 75 kg + 65 kg with ease (I can't race with P220 though )

I had Pleasure on my initial list but have stricken it off. We have decided to go for a new machine. Hence the Wego.

I know Access is a good scooter but it would be too heavy to ride. 99.5% of the time the scooter will be driven by my wife and she was not comfortable in Access.
