Planning to buy (book) a bike in Jan 2011. My previous bikes were all from TVS (Samurai, Shogun, Shaolin, FieroF2 & Apache 150).

    My requirements are:
    • 80kms highway office commute daily
    • Frequent Chennai - Bangalore trips

My priorities are (in the same order as below):
    • Should be very comfortable for long rides Avenger, Karizma, P220.
    • Relaxed cruising at 80-90 kmph. All of these three (no 150 or 180 comes even close to crusing abilities of these three. just for example P220 does three digits before it hits 6500rpm. this is the rpm on which 150,180's will be riding in the cities )
    • Good Brakes. Avenger has decent brakes but other two are better at this front
    • Maintenance free (I am lazy ) All are good here. Just give them regular service.
    • Reliable (and spares availability) for at least 4-5 years. Any of these will last 4-5 years provided you service them regularly. But spare availability for karizma's is not good at my place. Can't comment about availability in your city. For that you should check ownership threads.
    • Mileage not a constraint. Mileage in order - from max to min : Karizma ZMR, Pulsar 220, Karizma R. Dont know exactly about Avenger's figures
    • Preferably vibe free bike All of these will be very smooth at the cruising speeds. (90-110) When ripping even Karizma's start vibrating like anything.
    • Cost within 1L All three are below this mark

And my final unique requirement is I want a bike with a full chain cover (even an aftermarket perfect match cover would do) compulsorily . This might sound odd, but I hate open chains, the noise and the maintenance it requires. You can find any old avenger's chaincover. I think 180's had that.

Sorry for the long requirement list ! Waiting for your suggestions.

So I guess Avenger would be the best choice for you. considring amazing comfort, you'll feel like you are sitting on a couch & Nothing beats bajaj in spare availability. And its got good amount of pose too

The technical agreement between hero and honda is till 2014, so i dont think you will face any problem in service.
Replace the words "I have to" with "I choose to" and notice the difference in how you feel.

Unicorn dazzler. Why?? VFM bike. Honda, so you can rely on quality issues unlike Bajaj. Good looking too. You can easily take it to a decent speed on highways.

Blindly go for Karizma-R.It suits all your requirements. This bike is pleasure to ride at 100km/hr continuously for long runs.Spares are a bit costlier though.

GS150R , I was really put off with the attitude of the showroom guys. But anyways if the Bike is good then we can always service it at a Castrol or similar service centre.
By the way, I heard the GS150 top speed is around 105-110 kmph. Is this sufficient for Highways ?

                Thanks,

You have some option sir. As you said your main criteria is the closed chain cover,I would tell you the ZMA or GS150R for entire usage.

The only other option is P220, but need to figure out how do I fix a full chain cover on it.
How about GS150R ? Heard Unicorn has also been stopped. Dazzler, again not sure about the chain cover issue!
Any other 150 cc bike good for touring ?

                      Thanks,

In terms of sheer fun on the highways, I would say NO to any 150cc in the market...

Since you seem to have the budget and the means, go for a bigger bike. Its always fun to ride them on highways...

As someone said, around at 90-100 cruising, 150s would be coughing up their throat where the above 200s would be flexing their muscles...

I am a little surprized at this non booking of the karizma thing...

Anyways, you can check out the 220 as well. Apart from a few instances of notoriety, its a fantastic bike as well..

Strongly recommend Karizma R, the best choice for itz riding position, and everything u demand, but dont know about the spares ready-availabilty (and i dont think it will be a long stretch for you)
                        Damn Reliable.
If you find booking a problem, just enquire in the nearby cities/states (just go for a google search)...U can have a ride as well .
The 2nd choice suggestions would bethe Avenger 220.
Presence of MIND and self CONFIDENCE is the primary aspect You need to be on road, not what brand your riding gears are.
If you lack these two then DONT

                              Guys,

Thank you for all your suggestions, I think the choice was unanimous. The only confusion was between Unicorn, GS150R, P220 and ZMA. And as most of you pointed out not to go ahead with 150's, my choice narrowed down to P220 or ZMA.

Today i took the day off and visited almost all the HH dealerships in chennai. Finally ONE and I repeat ONLY ONE dealership accepted bookings for ZMA.....Adyar Motors, Adyar. Infact he even had 2 karizma's on display and promised that he can deliver it within a month!

Yes I booked my black ZMA today. Just cant wait for the delivery day!

Once again thank you all for your time and inputs.

(And by the way my Shogun is up for grabs (and I am willing to part with it for a very good price to a genuine Shogun lover). Anyone interested PM me)
