Congrats buddy on making the right choice. Every machine needs a different kind of maintanence, even bikes of same company and model. Take good care of your P220 and I can bet you, you will be putting a positive review of your bike even after 5 years .

i dont wanna raise any brand war here(i dont own any of these biggies...i got a puny160cc)...but opinions do vary as per personal experience...

@thread starter : congrats for finally making a wonderful choice...220 rocks...but even ZMA rocks BIGTIME
Lets keep ZMA for a different thread. You are indeed moving towards a brand war.

You will need to lube the chain every 1000KM or as needed (if you ride in dusty areas, you will need to clean it and lube it earlier). It would be a wise investment to buy it from day one.

I am planning to put up a post on how to do it (I am most certainly not an expert, but can surely provide some tips).

@Happy: what you say is true...each bike has its own set of problems. But if you notice, the ZMA has in it, a decade(almost ) old mill borrowed from some bike that Honda has been making overseas. The package has had a long time to mature and all the problems have been sorted out. Add to it the Japanese art of precision engineering and manufacturing on a mass level and what you have is a trouble free bike.
On the other hand, the Pulsar has been maturing with each release. There were issues in the first batch that were sorted in the second and so on and so forth. Mind it that I am not trying to say that we are happy to be used as guinea pigs by Bajaj to stabilize and test its products.

I myself was serious about the ZMA and had umpteen times visited the HH dealer. In fact I remember telling Inder (inder.cool) that I will book the ZMA today, may times.
But in this case, I was a bit too apprehensive about buyin a product that sells by name instead of specification and the company cares a damn about consistent pleas to upgrade specifications.

What I intend saying is that if you have a product on the market that is considerably fault free and is a vastly improved product; not to mention that it scores over other competitive products with ease, buyin it does make sense.

It all boils down to the feel factor...If I feel comfortable with a specific brand/bike, I will most likely be biased towards it.

Thanks all, your inputs are much appreciated. I look to have the bike within next week, processing has started from PBK. I'll go ahead with silver. Funny thing is, I had never even thought of the silver color, was pretty much made up with red. It's only in PBK that I saw the silver one and it looked, well, classy. Couple of friends are trying to dissuade me from this color saying it looks bland for a high end(you know what I mean, in India) bike. But I just can't get it out of my mind now. So I guess I'll stick with silver.

*Do I let PBK do a Teflon coating or should I get it done from outside?
*Does anyone know if PBK can do the black job for extra 2-3k?
*Any other things to keep in mind before taking delivery?

@montiez: you surely have made a good decision. I wont be getting itto the ongoing debate of that which bike is better ZMA or220 as i ride one and sell other.

You can surely get the teflon coating done from PBK as it will save you the headache of going somewhere else for rebuffing as you can get it done during a routine service.
No, PBK wont be doing black job at any cost.
                  Make the payment.

Cheers dude ! P220 in silver will be a rare one to see ! have fun and be watchful of the phooses

Before taking the delivery, here are some pre ride checks,

                      - Do not sign any xyz paper they hand over just like that, read carefully what they mean and then only sign them

do NOT sign any "vehicle delivery slip" until you're satisfied with the bike's condition

-inspect for any visual damage, if there's any then have the damaged parts replaced for free.

                      -check the tyres

-check the rims and whether they have a wheel balancer (it may not need a wheel balancer in some cases)

-Have the chain lubed properly, dont start to wear it out from the day 1 itself

                      -check the oil level.

-go for a test ride before the delivery slip is signed if possible, see whether you can find/feel anything abnormal

-lastly, they should hand over a toolkit, first aid kit and a owner's manual over to you as standard stuff, dont know whether they offer anything extra with a P220

Do not take the bike in a hurry due to sheer excitement
, for any minor fault may compound to a major one later on and have you tearing your hair.
A man's testosterone level is directly proportional to bhp that he's using on his motorcycle.

@montiez-Firstly congrats since you already made the decision.

Some of the points which Xenologik mentioned doesn't hold for P220 like the test ride part.

I find the seat(rider) of P220 absolutely normal.Even the pillion one is good but the seating position for pillion is a bit cramped so he/she tires very early.

Cushioning can be easily done if you find the seat to be hard.

@niranjanvaidya-Which PBK service station you are talking about?Kothrud?

For people who say Karizma is very reliable:
Yes it's very reliable but over a period of time(Say 3years of ownership) you end up paying more for parts(For example:P220 disc pad cost 200 odd bucks while the disc pad for Karizma cost close to 1800) and there are certain things which will definitely go for a toss on Karizma(Ignition switch, timing chain to name a few)

                              @MG

they dont give test rides i took my cbz-x out for a 2-3 km ride to analyze it. then only i actually signed the delivery slip of my bike.

which other points also dont hold for the p220 , id like to know

I am talking about the PBK at FC Road. Never sampled the Kothrud one...what say? is it better?

Anyway, in general, the mechanics are not really very interested in preserving the bike...some instances that I noted
                                1. The manual states that you need to wait till the fuel pump primes up and these idiots will thumb the starter immediately.
                                2. Not to mention that the idiot who washes the bikes will ruthlessly start the bike and wring its throttle mercilessly (on a cold engine) just to wash the chain.
                                3. They use kerosene/diesel to wash/clean the chain and the bike too
                                4. After changing the oil, they have a tendency to start the bike and rev it hard immediately...now this really irritates me to no extent...imagine the entire oil having drained out and the new one just in, there is absolutely minimal protection that the internals have. To prevent this from happening with my bike, I simply remove the key when the bike is on the workstation and request them that I will start the bike and keep it on idle for at least 120 sec.

There are so many other practices that one may see there that will surely make you whine in pain

I for starters feel that the 220's reliability has been on the hit list only due to the lack of attention to detail by PBK.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.
