Hmm though i haven't ridden either of them, from what i have read and seen, the Ninja 650 isn't exactly as forward oriented as other big bikes na.

So adjusting to it may not be too difficult. And also it is not as powerful as other SBKs that it might be so dangerous if he hasn't ridden a owned and ridden a 250cc bike.

LMAO At this rate one should
                  first buy a Cycle
then a XL50 or any scoot
                  then a 100cc splendour
then a 150 - 220cc bike which has disc brakes
Then a world class 250 (Hyosung, Ninja, CBR)
then a royal enfield c350 or the pulsar350
                  then a royal enfiled c500
                  then a gt650 or the Ninja 650
then a harley davidsons Iron 883 or a ducati monster
                  and then some litre class.

In my view dont be obsessed with the cubic capacity of the bikes... Rather figure what kind of bike you can ride and you want to ride and put your money there.

IMHO, it is better suggestion to graduate from cycle to litre class for the 600cc's are called SBK's

Currently, there are 2 machines available in the 250cc segment - Ninja 7 CBR. If you can afford( which I assume you would be since your budget is around 5l), go for N250. Most of the CBR owners are buying CBR due to the higher price tag of Ninja. If Ninja would have been locally made and was sold for around 2l, people would have preferred N250 (no offence, just my thought).

Talking about future, speculations are there for a Suzuki, Yamaha (both nakeds) & Hyosung(both naked & faired) bringing on their 250 cc machines soon. KTM also would launch 350 & 690 within a couple of years. These bikes would give a big bike feel(atleast to me, you may differ in opinion).

So currently, N250 seems to be best bet for you. It has power, looks & decent average.

Ninja 650R would give you 21-22 kmpl overall efficiency AFAIK from the reviews. Even 600cc is too big so you dont need to go for litre class bikes. And its the best machine for touring. And the feel won't be matched by lesser cc bikes. Go for N650R if u can get one.
