Hey,I have test driven both activa and dio.Dio is far better.I felt the engine is more refined, better handling."Vibes transmitted from crank shaft to frame, then through the bearings of the head stock and into the stem where it meets the triple clamp and into the clip-ons where it is greeted with great pleasure by my hands"-ratfighter mod rtr

The best gearless scooter so far available is the TVS Wego without any doubt. But guess that won't remain for long since the Vespa will be out in a few days.Motorcycling Experience:

2011 ~ 2015 Hero Honda Karizma R (Sold at 56.5k)
2013 ~ 2014 Bajaj Discover 100 4G (Sold at 16.5k)
2015 ~ 2017 TVS Wego (Totaled at 18k)
2015 - Bajaj Pulsar 220F (Currently 31k) < Garage Queen!
2017 - Bajaj CT100B (Currently 21k) < 'Golden Quadrilateral' Runner!

Its 2012 and going for an Activa now, would be just like buying a 2012 ZMA-R. Which I believe you wouldn't prefer, since its a dated product.Originally posted by sayank10 View Postwhat about activa?
And personally I find the Activa abit overpriced and the waiting period is also absurd(8 to 10 Months here.). And I believe there no need for me to mention about the crappy SVC's. One thing I hate about the Activa is that it doesn't sport a telescopic suspension, really!! Would you ride a scooter that jumps when braking hard???
Now the benefits of owning a Wego are that you can save a few K's and get a brand new piece from factory within 15 days of booking, specifically dispatched for you, and I tell ya, it doesn't get better that this. The Wego also sports 12" alloys which is also a first and not to mention the telescopic front suspension.
But still if you have a blind faith towards honda. Then its upto you. Ride safe.Motorcycling Experience:

The waiting period for Activa here in Pune is 7 days! Aviator is available off the shelf.
Also, the case of Activa and 2012 ZMA-R is slightly different. Activa got a 10cc bump in its engine alongwith improved FE, Torque and weight reduction a couple of years back.Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Lucky you. Here Honda products have unbelievable demand and waiting period. Am from Kerala btw.Originally posted by antz.bin View PostThe waiting period for Activa here in Pune is 7 days! Aviator is available off the shelf.
ZMA also got ASFS, BS3, Belly Cowl and for some unknown reason a RED DISTRIBUTOR CAP.Also, the case of Activa and 2012 ZMA-R is slightly different. Activa got a 10cc bump in its engine alongwith improved FE, Torque and weight reduction a couple of years back.
What I meant was, the updates seem kinda negligible. When comparing the Wego with the Activa, the Wego has an upper hand be it in technical terms as well as in terms of VFM.Motorcycling Experience:

just like hero has blind faith in honda engines.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostBut still if you have a blind faith towards honda. Then its upto you. Ride safe.
i guess the curious waiting period of honda products has more to do with less production than high demand.
wego is relatively new product and quite compitent while activa is tried and tested.and the question remains why do i race?

Activa or Wego or bike again
I just sold my bike today. I am also in a fix to go for a bike again or go for a gearless scooter Activa or Wego.Originally posted by sayank10 View Postjust like hero has blind faith in honda engines.

Activa & Wego are available off the shelf. I like Wego in all aspects especially my prime requirement suspension, but doubt about its long time durability.
What do you say again a bike or Activa or Wego. Suspension should be very comfort as my driving is in bad roads and speed breakers and path holes

I have been using TVS Wego for about a year and a half, it has run a little above 10K till date. This is my first scooter and seemed a good idea to buy a scooter cause i was only going to need it for city. I choose Wego cause my primary requirement was suspension, turned out to be a good buy. (Bad roads here too) I have the white one. Had to replace the speedo cable and thats about it. Get my scooter serviced as per manual and normally ride between 40 and 50, getting about 45 to 47kmpl. Did one 1015kms ride once on my scooter with a week long worth of luggage and stuff, it was smooth and silent the whole way. Easy to maintain, wash and clean. The mobile charger works well too! It's been hassle free so far and i plan to use it for about 5 years. If you get wego then dont use the 10W30 grade oil, 20W40 seems to best for it. The only thing i hate about my scooter is the buzzer. I find it extremely annoying. Good to try something different at times......

Thank you gurrala74 for your post. Which bike have you been using till now and what have you been normally using it for?Originally posted by gurrala74 View PostI just sold my bike today. I am also in a fix to go for a bike again or go for a gearless scooter Activa or Wego.

Both bike and scooter have their pros and cons. It will depend upon your purpose for which you will be using your ride.
In terms of suspension and overall comfort i would suggest for a bike. But i really do not have any experience with scooters hence cannot say for them.

My dad and sis use a wego and I had a few (painful) moments of riding it sometimes (all the other times I use a TVS Suzuki Samurai).Originally posted by gurrala74 View PostI just sold my bike today. I am also in a fix to go for a bike again or go for a gearless scooter Activa or Wego.

I ONLY use it when bike is gone for servicing or when I need to pick dad up from the railway station and he has luggage that cannot comfortably be carried on the bike.
I would strongly advice you to reconsider buying a scooter if you can already ride a bike. Problem with scooters is how cramped they are for guys (girls are short so they don't have issues) and how unsafe you may sometimes feel without there being engine braking and disc brakes to bail you out.
They have tiny wheels that make the tiniest pothole seem like a huge crater. Even if they have well sorted suspensions and rear monoshocks, the wheels play spoilsport. Only yesterday my spinal chord was almost damaged by a pothole. Scooters are NOT for bad roads, they should be ridden on smooth plain roads for keeping comfort levels high.
Acceleration is quick but braking is poor and this makes for a dangerous combination in Indian conditions. There is a reason they say college girls riding Wegos/Activas are as dangerous today as college boys riding Shoguns in the 90's. The thing won't stop easily.
If you are looking for scooters because you think changing gears a lot is a hassle, I suggest you look at Bajaj Discover 100 4-speed and Suzuki Hayate, both of which have a price within 50k OTR. They have some of the best low speed pulling capacity and gearing is such that there is plenty of torque available at all speeds in all gears. I could do 20 in 4th gear in both these bikes. Discover has such a good suspension that when I test rode it in a pothole filled area I hardly felt anything while the wego at home under similar riding and speeds would have sent me to hospital with spine injury.
OK coming back to a scooter, if you really must ride a scooter, Wego is not a bad choice at all. It has better suspension than activa and it IS pretty reliable. My dad has no troubles with it and finds it pretty satisfactory. I found the engine pretty peppy (fast acceleration till 80) compared to Activa.
But then this was when there were no better options in the market. Today, Suzuki Swish would have a better acceleration and pickup and Mahindra Rodeo RZ would be a better scooter tech-wise compared to these two.
I would still ask you to go for a Discover 100 4G though compared to any scooter. Same pickup, same acceleration, double mileage, double comfort, double fun, higher safety and 5-6k lesser price.Currently without a vehicle. Uber App and Bangalore Metro serving all my travel needs.
