When I am getting 38kmpl on my Stunner I still wonder why I didnt go for P135 which gives 51kmpl to one of my friends who possesses it. yes Pulsars might be lesser reliable if you rip them hard compared to Honda/Yamaha but if you take care and service them well they are decently reliable. And in mileage Bajaj is unbeatable. Test ride the bikes before you own.

I think the ss125 would be a better option for your budget. be it looks, handling, refinement or reliability it's good for it's price. and it won't let in down in mileage dept. either as it has a decent mileage of around 50+. there is nil vibration and even if you abuse it, it'll take it all. No issues with that. and yea the spare parts are dirt cheap.
P.S.: IMO it's the most underrated bike in India, though it is probably the best bike available for its price.

SZ gives around 40Kmpl in the beginning, I've known users who've claimed the mileage to be around 30Kmpl after a few months of usage and that too after regular servicing. When it comes to giving proper mileage the FZ/SZ engines fail in most cases. (Though at the same time I know 2 FZ Xbhpians who get 54 & 42 Kmpl respectively.)

Nope, some people look for reliability, some for brand value etc. If everyone was looking for VFM then the only phones bought in India would be the Shanghai made ones.

And since you're a new rider, with or without your knowledge you'll be abusing the bike. I know this cause my first bike was a ZMA and I learnt to ride a bike from watching videos on YouTube.

Honda Shine is a new one added to my list now..will check it out!!!
Honda Shine is another alternative to Honda Unicorn, inspite of it being 25cc's short, its engine performance is similar to that of Unicorn.

The thing is I always was against Pulsar as it has become too common these days..thats why I didnt add Bajaj wen i posted this thread and said that I m inclined towards Yamaha or Honda...Now since all of u are suggesting for the P135, I guess its worth a shot!!!Thanks for ur replies guys!!

Also I read somewhere there Bajaj bikes are less reliable than Yamaha (require more servicing, more faulty parts etc.etc.) and as one of my requirements is long term hassle free riding, i was chosing those 2 brands.
Bajaj bikes are good, but dont expect them to last more than their opponents, since they are VFM products they outperform their oponents in the same class and more performance means less engine life, eg- the P220 from the 220 class produces 21Bhp and the ZMA from the 230 class produces 17Bhp, so its just commonsence that the higher compression P220 wont last as much as the ZMA, though other factors such as parts quality also has a play in this.

Yes, its the most under rated bike in its class, just like the GS150R is underated in its respective class.

@ashwin prakash, Shanghai ones are just cheap. They can't be called VFM product. Their screen quality, voice quality everything is just pathetic. So the value they ask is pretty much higher for what they deserve. On the contrary the VFM bike is real VFM since they give you best quality, performance, mileage, reliability, low maintenance, after-service treatment etc for the money they ask

thanks for the suggestions guys..i just checked out P135's price..its around 65k where I live..i would have surely tried it if it was around 61k or around...i dont want to go above 60k in my budget...
mmm..i guess even i will learn to ride from Youtube videos then..;-)
Also for me performance does matter, but more than that wat matters to me is the reliability, long term usage, etc. etc. type of things...
I guess that leaves the SS125 and Honda Shine to compare..

SS125 is a fine bike. I wouldn't suggest Shine, it just sells on Honda brand name, as a product it's nowhere close to SS125. May be you can take a look at SZ/Discover 150, i'm sure they fall in your budget, atleast certain versions of SZ should. For sure, these are not as much fun as a P135LS, but they are good bikes in that price range with decent power/mileage.

thanks for the suggestion..i was looking into SZ and discover 150 in the beginning..but now am almost convinced about the SS125..having another doubt in my mind though..
currently I m located in Pune but I m guessing I wont be staying here for long(max 1.5-2 years)..so one of my friends suggested me to buy a second hand bike for that period and then again sell it when I leave the city..but i was thinking if i buy a new one, whichever city i go to, i will take the bike with me and change the registration there to that city or something..Which of the 2 options do you guys suggest is better for me??

Bhai , buy a new bike..take it with you wherever you go.i mean a 2nd hand will cost you 30000.you'll use it for 2 yrs. And you'll have to pay atleast 5000 for maintaining it. Again you've to sell it off when you transfer.and then you've to spend 60k on a new bike! Spend 60k now and hget a new bike..for re registration you may have to pay a meagre amount but thats it..just think.

I don't know how time/money consuming is the process if you are changing places. Never done it, so can't advise you on that part. Buying a new bike is a better idea more often than not. Buying a second hand bike/maintaining it & then selling it might set you back by more or less the same amount you will be spending on registration process when you move to a different city. Only upside in buying second hand bike & then a new bike when you move is that you don't have to make rounds around RTO office (as far as I see it). But, I should tell you this, two years is not a short time, may be new bike is the way to go!

SZ range seems attractive at first, but as time goes by, it'll really make you regret. As reported by a friend.
                            1. Tank moves left to right from 1st day, umpteen attempts to tighten it have been done yet no use.
                            2. The petrol in the tank is'nt properly used up, even after the bike stops running and we shake the bike, we can feel that theres lots and lots of petrol remaining.
                            3. Initial mileage was 45+, current mileage is 30~35Kmpl.

Was a fan of the D150 since its its the only 150cc bike priced in the range of 125~135cc bikes. But after taking a TD, was sincerely unsatisfied, the build quality and ergo doesnt seem to click, BUT keep in mind, am benchmarking it with regarding to the rest of its competition in the 150cc class, even though its unfair regarding the price its available for.
