    what bike?

riding bike always calls for extra attention. you need to be alert at every point in time if you are riding a bike unlike driving a car. ofcourse these things get imbibed in your mind and you tend to subconsciously control and react to the situations. but still the first point holds good.

well as i said in the intro section i believe the biking is strictly for recreation - at least for me. and my requirements are as follows (not the the bike requirement)
    • i have a lean build and 'm 167 cms tall.
    • i need a bike to enjoy riding nothing else : not for drag racing , not even for show off. just to ride alone at any speed or with friends (not as pillions) on small outings
    • i am not worried about FE (not because I don't care but the actual running of the bike will be low)
    • i can do with a brand new one or used one
    • my budget for new one <70k.. though I feel 70k for recreation is too much but still so far I have not owned any bike after i started working so i think i can splurge on it
    • used <20k.. seems a better option for now
    • when do i need it : well i am in no hurry

    now about the bike
    • i should be able to wring it out to the limit : it should be free revving
    • should handle well especially in hard braking conditions (wider tyres, good weight distribution, good set of brakes..?)
    • kind of obedient beast(..?)

    what i fear most..
    braking on loose/slippery ground

the bikes that i have used so far..
classic first gen pulsar 150 and the latest iteration of the same
    bajaj ct100
    suzuki fiero

others that i have used for short periods/runs
    yamaha rx135 5 speed
    old bullet
    thunderbird

(i did not own any of them!)

i think it is safe to say that bullets and thunderbirds are ruled out (of-course used ones) as i feel they are too big and heavy for my frame.

    awaiting responses bros. thanks.

        Well my 2 paise!

Since you want a screamer with good handling and braking,
Apache RTr Fi or RTR refresh(75k, 65k)
(The Fi with its peakier nature would be the best!)
        Fz 16(72k)

        Else
Get a two stroke, like a Yam 135 and mod into a screaming mad machine! There would be nothing else that can you a comparable adrenaline rush.
You can get one within 20k, spend some cash to get a port job, exp chamber and disc assembly and lo presto you will be gettin high on the intoxicating two stroke wail in no time!
RIDE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!

          I'll support need4toque above.
GO for an RTR refresh, it meets all your expectations, except the wide tyres, which you will not miss once you ride this bike.

The RTR Refresh seems like your best bet buddy. Amazing bike and comes LOADED for its price tag.
It would suit your build too..

The P180 classic is a real classic man
Extremely hard to find a decent specimen in the second hand market though...

I might want to stay away from classic pulsars (used choice).. the bike is front heavy not stable under braking at speeds above 50kmph. the bike invariably veers sideways when you brake hard.

The bike skewing sideways is a sign of misaligned forks or a bent chassis/headstock. Reasons for which would most certainly be a comprehensive wipeout.
Can happen on any bike that has met with an accident. Not a feature of a good condition P180 classic man

The front heavy nature however is a true fact and doesnt bother the Pulsar classic owners one bit man. PM Aryan dada for more info on P180 classics...

might be.. but my brother owns a classic 150.. and i have been taking it out continually right from the day one. it is a complete different bike when compared to any present gen. bikes like dtsi, unicorn, cbz. it is great for straight line sprints and speeds but once it builds up speed i feel it is like a canon ball though it may no be doing very high speeds actually!

                          @ACE_HUNTER
yor are right.. but who knows if i could decide and could lay hand on a good used one before that

Why don't you go for a Honda Shine? I own one for 1 yr 4 months and the following points of yours hold true for it.
                            • i need a bike to enjoy riding nothing else : not for drag racing , not even for show off. just to ride alone at any speed or with friends (not as pillions) on small outings
                            • i should be able to wring it out to the limit : it should be free revving
                            • should handle well especially in hard braking conditions (wider tyres, good weight distribution, good set of brakes..?)
                            • kind of obedient beast(..?)

I do not rate it as a beast rather a very peaceful bike and very obedient for sure with great handling and brakes! Great FE too. After the initial engine break-in, it becomes very buttery. Too smooth.

Ah for the adrenalin rush I have a Shogun. I won't suggest it though because it is hard to get a Shogun and its spares, secondly the brakes are weak when the Bhp and sheer pickup is considered. (14 bhp @ 110 cc), On the 2nd gear (the most powerful one on a 'gun) when you throttle throttle, you will feel almost the same when an aeroplane starts its runaway stretch before takeoff, only here you do not get reclining seats neither seat belts. Secondly the lion roar is bound to distract people nearby, often people get pretty pissed off when it passes by (WTF was that!).

Show off? Yes of course. Its a 'gun anyways. Back then they called it "The Boss".

Take a Honda Shine test drive if you can, you will not be dissapointed. I am telling this after riding and loving Shoguns for almost 13 yrs.
                            '98 Shogun

As pointed by many, You have got 3 options
                              1. P200
                              2. FZ16
                              3. RTR Fi

Considering your points, FZ16 will be Best. Good Looks, V Good Handling Price is alo within your said range. If you wanna go for P200 then wait & go for Fi version.
rest is you choice man. But whatever your choice, it will be great once you have your baby, for sure
