    • i need a bike to enjoy riding nothing else : not for drag racing , not even for show off. just to ride alone at any speed or with friends (not as pillions) on small outings
    • i should be able to wring it out to the limit : it should be free revving
    • should handle well especially in hard braking conditions (wider tyres, good weight distribution, good set of brakes..?)
    • kind of obedient beast(..?)

I do not rate it as a beast rather a very peaceful bike and very obedient for sure with great handling and brakes! Great FE too. After the initial engine break-in, it becomes very buttery. Too smooth.

Ah for the adrenalin rush I have a Shogun. I won't suggest it though because it is hard to get a Shogun and its spares, secondly the brakes are weak when the Bhp and sheer pickup is considered. (14 bhp @ 110 cc), On the 2nd gear (the most powerful one on a 'gun) when you throttle throttle, you will feel almost the same when an aeroplane starts its runaway stretch before takeoff, only here you do not get reclining seats neither seat belts. Secondly the lion roar is bound to distract people nearby, often people get pretty pissed off when it passes by (WTF was that!).

Show off? Yes of course. Its a 'gun anyways. Back then they called it "The Boss".

Take a Honda Shine test drive if you can, you will not be dissapointed. I am telling this after riding and loving Shoguns for almost 13 yrs.
    that had me almost drooling....
Honda Shine mmm.. never considered that as an option. isn't the engine like that of Unicorn? high revving of-course but isn't its too buttery so as to miss that adrenalin rush

The bike is pretty stable at 95 Kmph (thats what I have hit highest on its speedo) and has a good pickup. On a long haul I have seen Pulsars give up to it, but that really depends on the rider. I have been smoked by Pulsars too.
I do not race with it, but on an empty stretch sometimes I throttle her up to 80 - 85 and yeah! she responds perfectly. And again I can bring her down to 30 kmph peace, she is perfect there too. The buttery thing is also because of the semi synthetic oil (Gulf 4T) I used recently suggested by phsyco, the bike just got even better.

Take a note of this - Shine is very good ergonomically designed.

Hmmm. I understand what you're getting at man.
For sure, the classic pulsars are very bad handlers. The weight distribution, power delivery, weedy tyres coupled with the moody transmission do make them a handful to corner

Like i said earlier, talk to Aryan dada if you're interested or wanna consider a P180 classic.

However, among the bikes available currently, the RTR is undoubtedly the best when it comes to usability vs performance.
          Cheers..!!

i have found that the rtr seems to have a lot of vibes at higher rpms,
one option to consider is the CBF stunner, looks better than the shine has 5 gears and constant high revving will be tolerated by the engine, hondas can take amazing abuse, FZ16 is also a hooligan bike in the mould u may like,
test ride the bajajs and the tvs's and any other preferably those with >7000km on the odo before u make ur decision.

Does not even come close to a Shine, the first being pretty bad handling. It was released a few months after I bought my Shine and I was like I should have waited a while! but then, I just happened to take a test ride. Oh Well! Forgive me, I will never suggest that bike to anyone. It is a Stunner for sure and will really stun you because it FAILS to deliver.

                    Hi Bro,
As you mentioned that its more of a recreation bike, its better that you don't spend too much. Better go with a 2nd hand RX-135 or Shogun and get the mods done... In fact, that's what i did way back in 2004... I didn't wanted to spend too much on a brand new bike (moreover choices were very limited at that time)... I got a very well-maintained RX-135 2000 model in mint condition for as less as 23k... I had to spend at max 1k to change the battery / horn and that's it, it was roaring like anything... Over a period of time, i started working towards the mods, as a result it was not a heavy investment to me in anyway... Its clocked about 80,000 kms on the odo and still rocking . Be very patient in terms of searching these classics as its very difficult to get one in a decent condition. Get hold of a good mechanic and you're done . All the best.

That is a priced catch .
well very true.. but then.. that leaves only one option - RX. I don't think I can get a Shogun (it is difficult to even spot one and 'm sure the engine would have been tweaked to the limit or almost destroyed). 'm very skeptical about the RX condition too.

What 4stroke options do i have?
looking at the replies i think i should take a TD of the suggested bikes whether it is a pulsar or shine before deciding on it.

So, recreational in what sense exactly? Stunting? Learning Stunts? In that case I add FZ16, as many have already recommended it ...

I have driven it, and it feels strong & stable. The Front Disk is on the stronger side of 150s. (My subjective thoughts only!)

In all other cases, A 2nd hand ZMA or P220 should do just fine ...

IF u looking at a recreational bike, then u need something radical. None of the new bikes can offer you that. Be it the FZ, RTR or any pulsar. U need something to freak out and have fun. First thing, avoid a new bike.
                            Make a choice of a 2-stroke or a 4-stroke.
For a 2-stroke, blindly go for an RX-135 5-speed. Do the works and freak out.

4-stroke, the best option is a full works Fiero. get a used one, do all the works. It has a bullet proof engine and can take anything that u throw at it. if you wanna have some off-roading fun, then put on rally handle bars, off road tyres etc and it'll be one peppy set-up.
You can make a works Fiero pump 18bhp pretty well. A 100kgs Fiero with 18bhp is nothing short of a fire-cracker. All this in a 180cc package with top reliability.

Having said this, I'm soon planning of building my own recrational machine. An off-road/tarmac Kart with a 195cc Fiero engine and a 20odd bhp set-up with a screaming 12500rpm package. A recreational machine should give scary kicks
