front brakes of ZMR costs 1200 and rear costs about 1100 bucks approx and i have heard that the rear disc pads are same for ZMR, hunk and CBZ-X :P

If you don't mind me asking... How much do these brake-pads usually last (in terms of km usage)?

same goes for mine..I've covered over 25k kms on my ZMR & had to change disc pads only once(front & rear both on different occasions)..actually it depends a lot on a rider as well, the way he use brakes of his bike..

he was referring in terms of costs of spare parts..not in terms of performance..as both are from different segments & for different potential buyers..

So, taking everything into consideration, can we consider a ballpark average figure of ~20k km?

I know, even in terms of cost of spare parts, I don't think Yamaha will have cheaper spares for a sports bike like R15 compared to cost of spares for a Hero commuter bike.

But still its developed and manufactured as a sports bike. Maybe you ride it as a commuter. I mean, even the R125 which is a 125 CC bike with just 14.5 Bhp is also a sports bike, not a commuter. Even I would be doing 40+ kms on my new ride (Duke or CBR 250) but that doesn't make it a commuter, because they too belong to the sports category (D200 - Naked sport/Street fighter , CBR 250 - Sports Tourer). That's how I see it.

I think commuter is something we use it daily as per our strength! May be it's a Street bike, Cruiser or sports or sports tourer or off roader.

I was just thinking, does commuter has a definition ??

But definitely R15 comes in premium segment in India atleast today

Commuter has different definitions based on the context. In general, it refers to someone travelling from one place to another, regularly (mostly on daily basis). A commuter bike is a bike that's designed specifically for that purpose. A commuter bike will usually have a high FE, better comfort, but at the expense of power and performance. Now it doesn't mean that you cannot use a sports like R15 for commuting, you can use any type of bike for commuting(some even use thumpers for commuting in the city). But when you do, it is you as a person who is the commuter not the bike. Its still a sports bike even if you use it to commute, simply because its made so.

Thanks everyone for your comments so far... Seems like Dual Disc is what you guys are suggesting.

As mentioned earlier, my prime utility of the bike would be light travelling from point A to B, with occasionally rides to nearby scenic spots (100-200 kms riding @ max 70 kmph) And I am comfortable with the mileage of 45-50 kmpl that Hunk offers.

as per the topic,he is asking about the rear disc model & cost of that is same as that of ZMR AFAIK because Hero is using same spares in those models as well..it'll also cost 1100/- to owners of Hunk or CBZ when they'll replace the rear disc brake pads..there's no point of comparison in between R15 & any other 150cc bike in India(barring CBR150),be it on performance front or on ownership cost..
