hello friends.today finally i went with pa to do the finalisation of the scooter.
first off we went to the yamaha to see the flaming RAY.dad dint like the looks of it.felt it inclined more towards the fairer sex.so it went off the list.
pa was actually adamant to buy the ACTIVA as some of his friends had told him so.but i wanted him to do a TD of both WEGO & ACTIVA.first off we went to the TVS to do TD of the scooter.dad rode it & came a few minutes later smiling.he loved it.but he felt he must do a TD of ACTIVA too.
so we went to Honda to do a TD.there something interesting happened.he instantly likes the looks of a Grey DIO.so DIO replaced ACTIVA.so did a TD of DIO.he dint look that happy.he felt it was on the heavier side.
so finally friends WEGO is the scooter we are going for.Brown colour.will purchase it tomorrow as mom strictly told not to buy it on a Tuesday.
thanks to all of you for helping withyour advice.you all Rock.PEACE!![]

    p.s. wego drum or disc??

Go for disc, if it's available.

Brakes on Wego are bad at speeds above 60, wait up for disc version. If it is only for your dad, drum brakes would be sufficient.
Any news on the pricing of the disc variant?

Depends on your city. The disc is priced Rs.2500 more than the standard version. Here in Bangalore, Wego Drum costs 48.1 K (ex-showroom) and Wego Disc is 50.7K (Ex-showroom)

I have just been to a TVS showroom today and they were completely unaware of the disc variant launched 2 days earlier... and finally to get the sale done, told me that it will be out after 6 months or so.

Did any of you check for its availability?

              Also checked Aviator and Activa.

Due to larger wheels, i was considering Wego vs Aviator.

Aviator seat is slightly on the higher side(79cm), under seat storage(20L) looked more or less same against wego/activa(18L)... Actually i was shocked to see so small storage... Dad's nova must be having almost double that space... Anybody knows what is Wego's under-seat storage capacity?

I want to be biased towards honda due to its very reliable engine, but Wego is definitely putting up a very strong case for itself..

since your father must have gotten used to drum brakes i think he can handle it better during panic braking. atleast i am not sure how effective my braking with such smaller tyres working on a disc brake would be!
wego is a good choice. their drum brakes were effective too the last time i did TD on it
edit : it is pretty understandable to be biased towards Honda. specially after they came up with HET engines in activa. now they are more fuel efficient than before. fuel efficiency is one, one has to think about, looking at the ever shooting up prices of fossil fuels.

Disc would be risky for older people
Better go for drum, however i think your father maintains an economy speed.
                  All the best.

That sounds as awkward as saying "power steering would be risky for older people".

My dad previously owned 1979 scooter which barely had a rear brake and non-existent front brakes. How does that link to the assumption that he'd find a modern scooter with disc brakes uncomfortable? One thing for sure, with 20 years of riding a scooter without proper brakes has definitely seasoned him into a much more balanced rider than most of us on this forum. And he finds the Aviator DX (Disc) perfect for commuting.

So, please don't judge by assumptions. Ask your dad to TR both the versions and see which one suits him better.

apologies from my side bbsrailfan. i never meant that it would be better. actually even i don't know how comfortable a disc would be on a scooter with smaller tyres. panic braking is what we do by default. in my years of experience (10 years only) i know how my panic braking would be. since scooters have a shorter front suspension we usually rely more in balancing the scooter weight equally on both tyres by braking both front n rear brakes at appropriate intervals. and when we don't do it properly the back side of scooter slides side ways due to all the weight getting transferred to the rear tyre. and when the front tyre is fed with too much weight the front wheels lock up n we experience a slide that is difficult to control. all said and done i am poor in panic braking old habits die hard. since you mentioned your father is more comfortable with disc ones then i am not sure when the disc wego will come.
i am sure tauseef Ahmed Muhammed didn't mean to judge your father as well. he was only genuinely concerned about your father's safety.
i apologize on his behalf since he mentioned about it in influence of my post.
so how long are you ready to wait for the disc ones.? will get some more information on these disc ones n let you know if they have been launched into the market.

@murlidhar, I was referring to Touseef's comment above and I sincerely apologize if my tone was a bit too harsh.

And yes, I do agree that discs on a small scooter may feel overkill, as there is barely any weight on the front forks. But that's where the telescopic forks come to play and help the dynamics. Most of the scooters we previously used/tested lacked out on this front. A proper telescopic fork with good travel will actually complement the braking dynamics and help in faster stopping.

Come to think of it - internationally we have Vespa's and other scooters with Discs, and some with ABS too!
