  • Dazzler or FZ 16 or Karizma R or Avenger 220 ?

    Hello All,

This is my first post on xBHP and I couldn't make better use of it other than taking help from the forum.

This would be my 8th bike starting from a Yamaha Libero in 2002 to RX 100 and 135 and RD 350 HT, Pulsar 150 DTSi (spoke wheels), Pulsar 150 (Digital meter) and my last one Honda Stunner. I love biking except during monsoons and that's the time my family and friends persuade me to sell off the bike don't know why. Its not that I had any accidents ever (touchwood).
I am on the verge of buying a bike within a week. However this time I am adamant I wont sell it. My initial budget was 80k and now I have painfully raised it to around 90k the reasons for which is an additional requirement mentioned below.

    The requirement

I currently drive a 2007 Esteem everyday to office which is about 5 kms from my place however I tend to drive around after office taking my monthly commute to around 1100 kms a month and fuel expenses of nearly 7k every month. My aim is to use the bike for 20 days and the car for 10. This would substantially reduce my fuel costs. Also I need a good pillion seat for someone really important accompanying me everyday. This was my initial requirement. I had shortlisted the Dazzler and maybe, just maybe the FZ 16.

Now the additional requirement. My colleague and close friend is buying a Duke too this week. Now the plan is to go for Highway rides on the NH2 for breakfast about 70kms away and sometimes maybe farther at least twice a month during weekends. We would be joined by another friend on an RE. Now since they would be cruising around 100kmph, I am not sure if that would be possible with a Dazzler or FZ.

    The shortlist

Honda Dazzler : Pros: (Am a big Honda fan) FE- 45+, Rev happy smooth engine, Rear Disc, Honda reliability. Cons: Long rides with the KTM and RE not sure.

Yamaha FZ 16: Pros: Peppy Engine, good looks, excellent handling Cons: FE not as good as Dazzler, especially if revved hard, Pillion seat too small and uncomfortable, Long rides with the KTM and RE not sure.

Bajaj Avenger 220 : Pros: Good Looks, comfortable riding posture, Can accompany the KTM and RE for long rides Cons:FE, not sure about pillion comfort, crosses my initial budget by more than 10k.

HMC Karizma R: Pros: Tried tested sports cruiser, excellent engine, comfortable riding posture, Can accompany the KTM and RE for long rides, wide pillion seat. Cons: FE, crosses my initial budget by more than 10k.

I intend to keep the bike for at least 5 years. The Dazzler saves me a lot of money, initial as well as running cost. I wouldn't mind the FZ either since its going to save my initial cost by 12k however I am not sure if they are competent for the long rides mentioned. Among the Karizma and Avenger, I like both of them but not sure which is a better buy. Both are equally priced and same FE.

Ride Both Avenger & Zma & then Decide....ZMA will offer better acceleration & Top Speed then Avenger...But Avenger Exhaust note is much better (vroom vroom)then silent ZMA..both are quite different in riding ergonomics..I had used Avenger a couple of times just for change & i really like its styling & rider comfort.. As for Dazzler & FZ...both are city bikes & FZ is much better in styling.... I prefer you chose between Avenger & Karizma...

Re: Dazzler or FZ 16 or Karizma R or Avenger 220 ?

Well. To begin, any bike can take anything you throw at it, given you are ready to maintain it.

Having said that, you don't just torture a bike with something over its job description. So, if you want to go for long rides please stay off the dazzler and fz. Both are commuter-street bikes.

The karizma is the best choice of your lot. I really think you ought to shell out and get the ZMR, seeing you're looking to keep it for a while. It's top of the class. Great for loong rides. The avenger - it's pretentious. I don't trust it. It's not a true cruiser. The brakes aren't all that great. I'm personally not convinced of it's worth.

The ZMA is by far the best bet. One of the best.

I would say, a Pulsar 220 would be much better than avenger. Easy on pocket and no headache when you are looking for spares.
Else if Honda,is what you are craving for, go for ZMA. The only grouse is, lack of tubeless tires, hence change it to ZMR's tires.

I was exactly in your shoes 6-7 months back and 200NS was just into market making my choices even more difficult to make. In the end i chose the 220F for touring reasons, A Fairing really helps in protecting the wind blast so ZMR/220 would definitely be top of the tourers list in that budget and Avenger 220 with the optional windshield is good too, though its very comfortable, you sit very low in it which makes riding inside city a bit difficult n apart from that no negatives for that too.
Unfortunately in India we still dont have cheaper fast tourer options and bikes which serves both the touring and city purpose are only handfull.
The 220 has excellent torque to carry a pillion and the seats are very comfortable too. It revvs to 11k rpm and at 100kmph does only 6.x rpm. You can be whole day at 110-120 very easily with sufficient power left for high speed overtaking. Do take a test ride and decide which one you find good for your needs.
City mileage i'm getting around 38kmpl and on highways at around 90 kmph i get around 43-45.
              Fun Starts at Redline!!!
