  • Which would be better for me- Hero Hunk or Honda CBR 150R?

    Hello guys,

I have a question which might sound a bit stupid (you all must have noticed from the question itself :P). Actually, I am from New Delhi and love to ride my bike in mountains. I have visited multiple places in Himachal Pradesh. I have a Honda CBF Stunner (Carbed). I am looking for a new bike now as Stunner's engine is quite small for such trips. I remember, Jalori Pass was one of the most difficult rides I had. I wanted to buy Honda CBR 150R but its 12.66 Nm torque is something which makes me rethink over this. I am buying another bike just because of these trips and I still love to ride my Stunner a lot. Now, the question:
Stunner has 11 Nm torque at 6000 RPM, CBR 150R has 12.66 Nm torque at 8500 RPM. (On such trips, your bike got to have a lot of power. When I went to Jalori, I remember my friend's Bullet 500 classic was also doing it in first gear only with some bags and a pillion). If I buy CBR 150R, will the power difference on such uphill rides be very low i.e. just 1.66 Nm? And that too at 2000 RPM higher than the Stunner?
Also, wouldn't a Hunk be better choice here for me in this case which has 12.8 Nm torque at 6500 rpm than CBR 150R? I know that Hero Hunk and CBR 150R, both are from altogether different segment and can't be compared, I am just including this in my example to better understand this.

P.S. - No offence to anybody, I too love Baby Fireblade a lot but I am just a beginner. I was never a part of such knowledgeable forums and have to learn a lot from them now.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your time. Please help me out.

Buddy, these are different segments despite the same cubic capacity. Let me explain:

Hunk is 14.4 bhp. CBR is 17.8 bhp. Hunk can touch a top end of 107 kmph. CBR goes around 130 kmph. But this difference comes with a compromise too since the capacity is the same (150cc). Technology helps a bit but not too much. Also, for info, Hunk costs around Rs. 73,000 and CBR around Rs. 1.33 lacs.

Coming to your specific query, not only is CBR's torque lesser but it is also high up in the rev range (8500 rpm). It is highly unlikely you'll travel at 8500 rpm in hills. So, you will not be any more satisfied with your hilly ride, unless you rev high.

So, for your specific query, CBR 150R would be highly NOT recommended & I would suggest Hunk. No doubt Hunk's undergearing and torque will help you on your uphill rides. But Hunk has a limited top speed. On highways, you'll be better off doing 70-80 kmph and not any more.

CBR 250 would be better than all this though, if you can afford it.
Another great choice around the segment, would be TVS Apache RTR 180.

How about Duke 200 for hills. Pretty torquey from the word go and a treat to ride on in hills. I know it is not a tourer but for ghat section, it is pretty competent tool.

Ok, so I assume you have the moolah to buy a 1.4L bike. Hunk would be better in hills.
BUT, instead of putting 1.4L for the CBR, I'd suggest you get a ZMA or P220 and invest the rest on gear. You'd love the hills and highways alike.
        Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

You may also consider the Yamaha SZ-R which outputs 12.8 NM at just 4500RPM - it will give you all the low-speed pulling power that you can ever imagine and is a supremely comfortable bike for long tours. Just keep in mind that it won't go any faster than 100-105. If you are only into Hero or Honda, then the ZMA will be a better choice.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Since you asked for Hunk & CBR 150R. Here Hunk is better for hill rides else buy a CBR 250R if you can can spend a little more. You will love it everywhere whether it is Highway or Hills.

Thanks Samarth, you have answered the query perfectly.

Thanks Juris. Actually, Duke is a very capable machine, no doubt in that, but I don't want to go for a naked bike and that's the only reason I am considering it.

@ Divya Sharan: Thanks for your suggestion. I have added ZMA to the list as I don't want to go for Pulsar. No offence to anybody, it's just my personal view. I am only into Honda's

@ bbsrailfan: Thanks buddy. Well ZMA is a very good option. I am not looking to buy R15/CBR 150 now as I have now realized :P that they are not made for such rides but ZMA is surely a very good and reliable option. Will consider it. SZ-R's engine is not very powerful and is mostly good for city riding that is the reason I am only considering more powerful machines. Also, I don't think there will be significant rise in the power on hills as compared to Stunner.

@ Bindass Axomia: Thanks buddy for your answer. I am now considering only CBR 250 and ZMA. Will choose one of them as per my budget

Thanks everyone once again for your answers and suggestions.
