  • Yamaha Fazer or TVS apache 180 ABS ?

    Hello,
This would be my first bike. I'm 19, 5'8'' i mostly drive on city roads. Way to my college is 15km. I've zeroed in on yamaha fazer and tvs apache 180 abs. I like features and technology on fazer while looks and power of apache enthrall me. Is it worth to spend 10K more for apache over fazer? Thanks

My choice would be Yamaha Fazer. Its a pleasure to ride in city traffic. The low end torque helps go thru traffic at ease. But, Apache has an edge over Fazer with addition of the ABS. Its an added advantage when it comes to braking and handling the bike. But, i was not comfortable with the stance of the bike. The stance while seating made my shoulder pain and it was a bit uncomfortable to ride. Just like you i am also on the taller side and own a FZ. The posture while you ride FZ or Fazer is just perfect with no niggles in the body.

Take a TD before you finalise.

I'd say the question is not about the low end torque. Apache wins hands down there. Its about the comfort. While both are great in the city, the fazer has a more comfortable posture. But that big semi fairing will make it a pain to navigate in heavy traffic. That's it. And if you hit an empty patch, the apache will be more fun. :P

My opinion would be for the Yamaha fazer as it is overall a good bike and also comfortable if you care going for long rides. . .

In that case, he can opt for the FZ which is the same as fazer without a fairing and that'll be cool and it'll be way fun riding a fz over an RTR. . .

Re: Yamaha Fazer or TVS apache 180 ABS ?

Get an RTR180 eyes closed IMO. It is almost a second quicker to 60 than the FZ and that difference only grows as the speed increases. FZ's biggest drawback is its poor top end performance. Also, the ABS on the 180 is an added advantage.
Comfort wise, FZ's upright sitting should be better. But once you get used to RTR's position, you shouldn't have much problem.
One main drawback of RTR is the vibrations, but those go down by a decent margin as you clock a few K km. You may get used to it too.
I'm saying all these from my own experience of having ridden both an FZ and an RTR180 for over 1K km.

Get the FZ/Fazer if you want a smooth engine with good low end torque and upright riding position. You may have to live with shortage of top end power.
Get the RTR180 ABS if you want an engine with pure raw power right from 4K RPM, ABS and sporty riding position. You may have to live with rougher engine.

All said, TR both extensively before you take a decision. You can also take a look at Pulsar 200NS.

That fun you are talking about is purely subjective my friend and if you're talking about the fun offered by RTR vs FZ wrt performance, then the fun offered by RTR180 is a lot better than that offered by FZ and that is not subjective

If you had asked this ques 2 years before, It would have been legit. But, in todays time, why not P200NS?? I was in this dillema you are in, 3.5 years back. I already had a Yamaha gladi, so I knew about the awesum svc of yamaha. I even zeroed down to Fazer. But once I rode the RTR, I bought it instantly. Do test ride 3 to 4 times, you will know yourself, what you want. But I would still say, TD the the P200NS once. The other two are obsolete now in tech.

Both are good bikes but Yamaha is much better in handling & refinement..go for Fazer.

Anytime, a low maintenance bike is always good and especially when you are in college you don't want to spend all that pocket money your parents give you on repairs and keep going back to them for more money. I guess maintenance costs of Apache is economical and it is no way inferior to any other bikes of its segment.

Why not look at Avenger? Decent mileage, very low maintenance and a sure head turner within college premises .

I would say go for rtr. Imagine two situations.
                          1) Riding in city:
                          Handling: both are good
                          Power: rtr wins hands down
Engine, noise: well fazer has smoother engine
Braking: suppose riding with sincerety but someone/thing jump before you ( happens very often on our roads) abs would certainly save you.

                          2) on highway:
Higher speeds: rtr takes the lead.
Again abs would come here to give you a peace of mind that it is always there to save you.

Also if you sometime want to enjoy the ride in rain ABS is always there.

So I would suggest go for rtr 180 ABS.
