  • Bike for a First timer

I currently own a suzuki access 125.I want to buy a new bike. I am a large guy @90kg and 5 ft 9'.So suggest me a bike accordingly
    Requirements:
    1. Budget:upto 85-90k

    2. Age:19 years
    3. Height:5ft 9'
    4. Weight:90kg heavy built.
    5. Intended usage (eg. Office/College commute, Highway runs, Racetrack usage, Weekend recreation riding etc.):college and local commuting sometimes long rides
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement (approx., if any) :Better if 50+
    7. City & Highway percentage usage :65% city and 35% highway
    8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running :daily 15-16km but 650km monthly.
    9. City / Town /Village of residence (so we can evaluate road conditions / traffic / terrain / altitude / OTR pricing):Pune city and outskirts
    10. Brand / Bike type preference (if any) :NO Yamahas please (Dont know why but dislike that company...no offense )Driving : I am safe rider butby no means am I slow.Handling Capability : I occasionally Zip Zap in traffic at maddening speed as I like to take advantage of gaps in traffic and move between them.Power delivery: I like to be first when the green light is on.Bike Care : I am not a regular at service centre. Would like kind of care free bike( once in 4-5 months is fine)Pillion Rider: Nothing as of yet but might come in future but should be comfortable.
    Build : Must be good.
Maintenance : up-to Bi annually is okay
Long term : Yes this is going to be with me atleast 8-10 years.

I weight 90 kgs and I am about 176 cms. ie. I can very well handle heavy bikes as well (though not neccesity).
My dad says if it has to be a bike It HAS to be a bike and not a 100 or 125 carrier as i already own access 125
(again no offense ) so Expected within 150cc to 180cc or above
Overall A ocassional mad driver (havoc riding) but normally a sedate(upto 60 kmph) driver.I like a bit of power but wont compromise on mileage

Tech savy(digital speedometer) is a must.

I believe I have provided maximum information. Please select a bike for me.

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Get yourself a Suzuki GS 150R and chuck other requirements of yours which it won't be able to fulfill. BTW, where in Pune do you have a race track? (as mentioned in the examples of bike usage).

This bike has a super reliable engine, 6 speed gearbox and a very pathetic ASC. But pure VFM!

Well your aspirations are typically teenager like. Nothing wrong with it. But you must realise that bikes are built with certain specifications in mind. An out and out power machine will not give you the average. An off roader will not have top end grunt. And a city commuter will give you the mileage, will have some top and low end grunt ( both balanced) but will not be an off roader or a track machine. Also in the context of servicing, your bike is like your girlfriend. The moment you stop pampering her and taking care of her she will move on. I hope you get what I mean. Again zipping in and out of traffic is not what a mature biker would do. So I guess u need to delete some requirements from your wish list and then I suppose a KTM 200 would fit your bill and if price is your primary constraint then you can look at the Bajaj NS200 also.

Re: Bike for a First timer

I don't think there's any good sports bike out there which gives 50+ along with the power that you are expecting. Most of the bikes that you are looking for will probably have 40~50 max. 50+ will go into commuter segment. So you'll have to be prepared to get along with 40 or 45 kmpl. I think you can consider the Apache if you are not too concerned about the vibes, or if you can extend your budget a little, you can get the 200NS. If you are too concerned about mileage and would like to get a commuter, then there are quite a few options there as well. You need to prioritize a little more to get the exact bike that you want.

Office/College commute, Highway runs, Racetrack usage, Weekend recreation riding etc, plus 50 kmpl and pillion seat comfort and zero maintenance and a bike that you can thrash around. I think you need to revisit your needs and prioritize.

for some part of your requirements, I would suggest you the Hunk.. Its beefy.. its got the big bike feel when you sit on it.. it gives a pretty decent avg.. its got the digital speedo and its smooth to ride..

if you want a six speed machine.. then you can go as Divya suggested..

But check the requirements and prioritize them first..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like you are about to get your first bike, and it seems you don't have much experience. Judging by your OP, I would advise you to ride safely with whatever ride that you are going to buy. Like arnavsameer mentioned, your priorities are mostly teenager like (Young blood). Zipping and cutting lanes through traffic or even on the highways is dangerous. You have a lot to learn, so be safe with whatever bike you are going to buy. I hope that you atleast wear a helmet while riding.

                  Thank you for your suggestions.So
1.GS150r Is it absolutely slow and can never zip through traffic or get off the signal fast ?
                  2.apache 160 cant have comfortable riding/vibrations ?
3.Pulsar 180 has to have maintanance issues?

So suggest me the closest match to the requirements among the mentioned three..

if you want acceleration and fun.. then try the Apache RTR 180.. all the bikes have some pros and some cons over the other bikes.. so neglecting them would be my suggestion..

P200NS is pretty neat.. did you think of that as an option.. heard it returns pretty neat FE figures...

GS 150R is a commuter, but a very very good one at that. I would say it is one of the best 150 cc commuters out there.
Apache is good with acceleration, but the vibes in the bike are more pronounced than others in the same league. Some get along with it, others couldn't stand it. Btw, the vibes only occur at high speeds so unless you are going for long highway runs, it shouldn't be a problem.
P180 well what can I say, many here at xbhp seem to have had quite a good history with their pulsar, but then again, most riders here take very good care of their machines and ride sanely. But as far as I have heard from my friends in my locality and my college, the bike wears off soon. I'm quite sure that not everyone of them is a maniac and they take some good care too, but they report quite a lot of issues. Although I can't comment on the new 200NS though because it is still new.
In the end, you will never get a bike that will fulfill all of your needs, you will have to lose some to get some. Just prioritize your needs better, like what you need the most, and neglect the ones that you can live without. Say for example if I'm going to be the only person riding on my bike and prefer not to have any pillion, I wouldn't even be bothered to check for pillion comfort. So just prioritize a little more.

If you can spend a bit more Duke 200 is a absolute brilliant machine , it has all the low end torque that makes you zip zap through traffic . Alternatively you can try Pulsar 220 it is also a nice bike and returns satisfactory mileage . Each and every bike needs to be taken care of . We cant get best of everything in a single bike , had that been possible there would not have so many bikes in market .
Apache : superb acceleration , cornering and that exhaust is the best .
Pulsar : Power , looks , mileage only issue is long term reliability ( you can check ownership thread they do last long if taken care)
Hunk /Xtreme : Power , looks and refinement , only drawback is weight of 150kg for a 150cc

To my Opinion.. the New Apache is looking horrible.. but if I were you, i would go for the P200NS.. it looks pretty decent.. if you are ready to shed a bit more.. you can also opt for the CBR150.. its a pretty neat bike.. pleasant smooth ride.. might fulfill more than half your requirements

but only if you are a fan of Full faired sports bike feel.. else you can check out on the Duke 200.. techie and intelligently built.. roars at higher rpm and it is a street fighter indeed

Many people got the same opinion, may be due to that TVS has re launched the old body design, I am seeing Apache ads in newspapers with both old and new design!
