Guys! Even I am from hyderabad and even I'm looking for my first bike. Need help.
I didnt want to spam my starting a new thread again as I have similar query. I am sorry if I am barging into this thread.

This would be my first bike. I need the bike for daily commute, at present I am using Kinetic Nova for daily commute to my office. (I graduated from btech in 08 and working as sw engineer now, told u so that u have an idea of me he he). I am very slim, around 50KG in weight and 6 ft tall.

Important point is: I still dont know how to ride a bike but I dont think it's going to take a lot of time for me to ride a bike, it's just the changing of gears I am not good at.

I need a bike which is good looking (I am concerned abt this for sure as it's going to be my first bike). I am also concerned about fuel efficiency (not much but it shouldnt be too low as 30-40kpl).
Handling is my main priority !
After reading above posts, I dont know if FZ-16 would suit me as I am very slim and people generally say I am underweight ha ha !

Thank you all for your inputs.

P.S: Also please mention the prices if possible

      ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

You have many options. I am mentioning all with pros and cons from my side - along with appx. price(all On Road in Bangalore though).

FZ16: Nice bike to be first bike. -ves: Avg a bit low(expect 35-42), pillion seat small. +ves: almost a perfect city commuting bike. Light, stable, with low end torque, flickable. Price: 75,000/-

Unicorn/CBZ/Hunk: +ves: Good overall bikes. Smooth engine and gears(specially Unicorn), good enough avg(45-50 in practice). Handling is good. -ves: slightly heavier than others say RTR or FZ. goodies like digi console. price: ~65,000/-

RTR(FI): +ves: most powerful in the list(power to weight ratio), good avg specially FI one(47-55), flickable. really like its clip on handle. -ves: to some extent tyre and some vibes. price: RTR=67,000/-(withput read disc one) and RTR FI=75,000/-
May be a bit small for you, though.

GS150R: +ves: Overall good bike with almost everything. Some of the best features on console. -ves: heaviest most(149 kerb weight) in the list. Price: ~67,000/-

There are others also like Pulsar(150(too common), 180(not a good segment i.e. go for 200 instead), 200(Good overall bike), 220(for power enthu, big and bulky)), R15(a bit over priced),

But I would say, look for 125CC bikes too as some of them are really good and can be a good option for you:

Honda CBF Stunner: a combination looks, power and average. A bit pricy at 58k

Yamaha Gladiator RS/SS: Overall really well built bike, will suit your height too. Avg is also good. Price: I guess ~52k.

Others are Honda shine, Bajaj Platina 125, XCD, Discover 135, TVS Flame.

If you are not carving for power .. go for 125 CC as the first bike as they give some power, good average, decent looks and light weight.

Depending on your budget, power need, mileage requirements shortlist some of these for you and have a test ride to select one.

IMHO Jayprashanth has penned down the bare realities perfectly in his reply.

The Uni is a perfect power commuter. Has more than enough power to make overtakes slick and make em stick as most vehicles cant keep up with a 150+ cc bike. Its refinement is well documented, but the sweet handling chassis is conveniently left outta every discussion
        - Consider if short weekend rides and city slicking is all you do. The bike's handling has to be experienced to understand what im getting at.

The RTR is an amazing machine performance wise. A complete enthusiast machine with the 260mm Petal disc upfront. The crazy revving 160cc mill and the top class equipment list make it the strongest contender in the sub 200cc class.
        - Can take on pretty much any role actually. TVS servicing is the RTRs weak link.

The FZ16 is pretty much a posers delight. The equipment list and the street-fighter look is impressive. The performance for the money you pay, sadly just doesnt cut it. The RTR is a better performer and the Uni is a better city bike for hassle free commuting. The FZ doesnt do anything unique for the price tag. FYI, 7 grand more than the FZ gets one a Zma
        - Buy if you are totally smitten by its looks and cant get that super huge 140 section rear tyre outta your head

Keep us informed on what you decide on then..

        Cheers..!!

          Awesome reply.

140 section tyre is the only thing which keeps FZ in race of probable contenders for me ..

I am also hanging undecided between RTR/RTR FI and Unicorn.

Why not GS150R? It seems to fit into most of their deciding criteria!

The GS150R is only a couple of kilos shy of the Zmas dry weight, for the 14PS it makes
Im guessing thats why people aren't exactly warming upto it

Guys I would like to know one more thing ! Me being a skinny person, is it better to have a bike which is not having much weight ? or is it that the bike should have atleast some weight !? if not a lot of weight ?

Because my friend claims that having a bit of weight in the bike is essential so that it helps in handling or so ! ......So even if I feel the weight of the bike it's a good thing, that's what he was saying ! Could you please tell in detail about how far that can be true or not !

p.s: Unicorn vs apache vs FZ 16 ..... cannot decide, damn each got it's own ads and disads

We are talking about the bikes with kerb weights ranging from ~135kgs(RTR, FZ) to ~149kg(GS15R).
So total difference in weight is 14 kgs max and compared to total weights(bikes + you) it's pretty much marginal and I don't think so that just this marginal weight difference would make a bike better handler for you.
I was also concerned about the weights but while test riding I found out that .. even ith 146kg weight Unicorn is really good handler and I really liked it and it's ther ein my list of final options. I also have same list of FZ, RTR/RTR Fi and Unicorn.

I personally have least interest in FZ because of around 5-6k premium for this bike, second Unicorn for it's reliable, smooth engine and found RTR the best handler for myself -- FI comes at a premium but you get some good technology with it.
Unicorn and RTR are opposite bikes in terms of characteristic ... one's pros are cons for others while FZ is in between these bike but at a premium ..

So now I am just considering Unicorn(Pearl Black) and RTR/RTR FI .. and will decide final one on the day of purchase with the help of my better half -- She has already rejected FZ for it's pillion seat .

A lighter bike is def better for beginer n light person but is not
everything .even im skinny n when bought RTR used to feel its very heavy but now it feels light n nice

after a few months ul feel even a karizma as light when u get used to it
.a fully fueled rtr is same weight as Karizma with 1 litre fuel

Pillion comfort wise, the Uni is a no brainer man
The seat is generously wide and hence doesn't give any cause for complaint. The RTR makes the Uni look big thanks to its compact dimensions.

Since you've picked two bikes that are quite different in nature, im sure it'll be quite simple to take a decision. Once you've made up your mind as to what you require in your new bike, it'll only be a matter of examining your finance choice etc and visiting the dealer to finalise the deal

                      Cheers..!!

                        ^^^^
                        That's the prob ..
Finance no prob till 75k .. I don't find R15 worth of 110k .. o.w. in 85-90k it could also be a choice for me.
In the two I mentioned .. I like both .. for their positives and would like to have somethign with mix of character. So I left it with my partner to pick one for me .. so go there .. check all bikes (RTR, RTR Fi and Unicorn) in physical for color and everything and which ever she says ... I'll pick one .. can't beat my head more on this

Im seriously considering a Zma. Esp with the annual road tax payment for govt. employees (My dad's buyimg me the bike. Im in final yr Engg ), the Zma turns out to be in the FZs price range

The Zma feels like a pepped up Unicorn.
Better brakes, more power, neutral handling.. All what im looking for

Thank you for all your replies guys, were really helpful ! I am removing FZ 16 from my list for the time being (I mean may be after 2 years lol) Now have to decide between Unicorn and Apache. Can you guys please compare them with more details ! Damn !! It seems I am asking too much from you people

Should I learn a bike and then buy ? or should I buy and then learn ? I am thinking of taking unicorn at the moment. btw any idea about the availability of the bikes in general at the showrooms ? (any city, better if anyones tells abt hyderabad too)
