Re: Best super reliable commuter bike for a newbie ?
I think hero commuter will be better for you. Considering the gears are easy to shift.
Visit a hero showroom and try sitting on each of their bikes. Whichever feels good, is the one.
Also bajaj discover series is good.
Good luck.

Re: Best super reliable commuter bike for a newbie ?
I am gonna list some bikes which will be handy and with a short review about it,
Yamaha YBR 110: The failure of bikes like Alba and Libero resulted into the invention of Yamaha YBR 110. This is a premium entry level bike from Yamaha which tries to find its spot in a segment which is completely dominated by Hero and Bajaj. . .
Yamaha Crux: Yamaha became a famous brand in India only after the success of their much popular 100cc bike, RX 100. In the past few years, Yamaha has been struggling to mark its presence in the most crucial segment of entry level bikes in India. Crux is their cheapest entry level bike which tries to take on the market leading bikes from Hero. . .
Bajaj Discover 100T: Bajaj has launched their first ever premium 100cc bike in India and they have named it Discover 100T. This bike will challenge Hero Passion Pro which is currently the ruler of this segment. . .
Hero HF Deluxe Alloy: Hero HF Deluxe is an entry level bike from Hero which takes on other modern commuter bikes like Bajaj Platina. This bike is more or less a redesigned version of HF Dawn. This bike targets urban commuters and has been recently renamed after Hero’s separation from Honda. . .
Hero Splendor Pro: Hero Splendor Pro is the newest member in Splendor family. Hero has stuffed this bike with new features to compete with its rising competitors. This segment of bikes is the busiest segment in Indian bike market and with this bike; Hero will try to take the competition to the next level. . .
Consider in these and I think you won't be disappointed. . . This is what I could short list for you, any more info on these tag reply and tag me. . .
PS: The review statements provided above are taken from a website and I would personally ask you to buy a Crux. . .
Cheers!!!

Re: Best super reliable commuter bike for a newbie ?
Why not Shine or Super Splendor ?Originally posted by saifmohdsidThank you for providing these options, You are welcome
here are my queries about each of them:
I think the same engine of CRUX is used in YBR 110 with some tweak for more torque and price is around 10k more. Yup I do think, haven't really did a research or so on it, so can't comment much. . .
The main query regarding CRUX is that it reaches its peak torque at around 1-1.5k RPM more than its competitors, what effect will it have on its performance? Also give your valuable suggestions about its real time FE ( 91.6 ARAI, 75 as claimed by my local dealer). I think that's not a problem at all, the main intention is that you want good mileage and it'll give you, if it has torque at lower rpms then you can it's great to ride as it will be having good initial pick up. . . Apart from that even I have inquired with local dealers about the mileage figures of it and even they said me something around 70-75 or so, don't remember exactly
. . . Are its spares as easily available as splendor in the open market? (I know they will be cheap
The bike was released around 6-7 years back buddy, I think it will definitely be available and also yes the spares will be cheap. . .
Why not Shine or Super Splendor ? (Considering that all share the same engine).
Mmmmmmh before I start up with my suggestions and all, let me just ask you, what bike do you like or want. . ? You said you don't want looks or other things just a good bike with good fuel efficiency and I listed out which I thought was good or else there are other bikes too which have both looks and mileage like the ignitor and as you said, Shine, etc,. . . Now, tell me which bike you want other than Crux and I will put my views on that. . . The reason for me liking crux is that it is a good bike with good fuel efficiency and an old classic kinda style which I like, most importantly YAMAHA, and if you are bored with that after 2-3 years or so, you can mod it easily to a dirt bike,
and that's it, now tell me your options. . .
Cheers!!!

CRUX is there around for sometime now, but I do not see any new CRUX on road these days. Obviously, CRUX spares will not be available as like Splendor which is there in the market for around 20 years now and still selling high in number.
Regarding the Discover series I am concerned about its braking effectiveness. (IMAGINE A HIPPO (me+my Discover) DOING BALLET PRACTICE AND TRYING TO STOP SUDDENLY.
)
{I've used the word "practice" since I will be driving my would-be bike for the first time.}
Regarding the Hero brothers I am thinking of buying + and not the APDV progeny bike since I am perplexed, that although around half a dozen bikes (including PRO) have the same engine yet the FE of everyone is different. Why this difference
Therefore, please throw some light about these points and as to why do you suggest CRUX ?Please dispel the darkness, I shall be forever grateful.

Why not Shine or Super Splendor ? (Considering that all share the same engine).
Shine and Super Splendor have completely different engines though the cubic capacity is the same 125cc.
Super Splendor's(same as Glamour) engine is horizontal type just like Splendor.
Shine's engine(vertical) will be more smooth compared to Super Splendor/Glamour.
Shine is one of the top selling 125cc bikes, though Glamour/Super Splendor do sell in decent numbers.
I've heard about varying mileage figures of Super Splendor/Glamour, some people get very good mileage while some not.

Re: Best super reliable commuter bike for a newbie ?
How do you fancy a Honda CBF Stunner ? ............ for the speed and the kms of ride you have mentioned, I can tell you one thing for sure, Stunner is going to serve the purpose well I mean
1. Least possible maintenance and running cost because electricals/parts are very basic. All analog and simple to handle. No hassle of digital or anything
2. A Full-Faired bike
3. If you are running it below 50 kmph stay assured for a FE figure of around 55 kmpl
4. Good acceleration because of relatively short gearing. You may also alter the gearing anyday by a little replacement (only if you need
)
5. The best riding posture among all the 125 cc bikes in the market
6. Maintenance free battery and Viscous air filter
and I may count more .................. but the question remains
Do you fancy a Stunner ?
Warm Regards,
Pranav

Re: Best super reliable commuter bike for a newbie ?
You can blindly go with HF Dawn for your build and usage. Other bikes very expensive for what they offer. This bike easily maintained by yourself with the help of forum members.Originally posted by saifmohdsidNow finally I have shortlisted CRUX, HF Dawn, Splendor+. Please tell me which of these will serve my purpose as it is decided that I will be buying the bike very soon (within a few days)
. Also please tell me the right way, so that I can learn shifting gears quickly, how much time should I devote to practice before hitting the road ? Do tell me about any other bike which you think will serve my purpose. Should I go for alloy wheels if I pick the Splendor+ ? BTW, OTR price of CRUX is 46429 while that of Dawn is 43550 in my city. Why Dawn is so cheap ? Quality issues ? Since the engine is same as other APDV series and only self start + fuel indicator is missing but the price difference is quite substantial, therefore I could not think about any other factor except metal parts' and other parts' quality. PS : The Shine and Super Splendor comment was auto merged in my reply while I was trying to reply to muztariq. Sorry for the confusion, my bad.
PPS : Once again thank you very much. Also thank you in advance for your future advice.
In this bike you won't have fuel gauge and handle lock from side, please take a note on this. There is no low quality parts in HF Dawn but less features.

CRUX: It sells in very very low number atleast here in Delhi. Be sure of spare parts availability in your region.
HF Dawn: Good bike considering it as age old proven engine. Spares should not be issue.
Spendor+ : I will recommend you this one. Reason: It is still one of highest selling bike, spares parts would not be issue. This model still has honda engine tuned to old state. I heard its state of tune is better than PRO series engine. No electric start, no disc...cheaper to maintain.

Re: Best super reliable commuter bike for a newbie ?
Till today I have never felt the need of a kick .............. you will only fall in such a situation whenOriginally posted by saifmohdsidYes I am OK with its looks and features but what worries me the most is that it doesn't have a kick start (the new model).
1. You have over-stressed your battery
2. You have been running on a bad battery instead of replacing it..........
just in case if you ever get in a situation where the battery has drained out then try a desi jugaad ......... Put the bike in third gear and ride it down the slope or ask someone for a little push to start it

Pranav

Re: Best super reliable commuter bike for a newbie ?
You are thinking too much BTW don't even think abt crux ,you can go for any 100cc motor from hero,bajaj(d100t)or Honda you can't go wrong test drive any one bike from hero ,or Honda or d100t you'll get the idea , braking and mileage of all the bike in this segment will be same..if I were you I would opt for d100t for the fresher looks and better poweredOriginally posted by saifmohdsidOkay now, after a lot of confusion I am almost sick of it
, just a few questions regarding the bikes :
1) Buying a Splendor - Old plus engine or new PRO engine ?
2) Buying a CRUX - Does it carry on the legacy of RX100 and the likes ? Is torque at higher RPMs a problem ?
3) Buying any other bike - Please read my requirements and advise in a little more detail than just giving its name.
4) Spoke or alloy wheels ? Is fuel gauge necessary ? (Thinking about the theft of fuel while the bike is kept in parking for long)
5) I will not bore you any further, how long will it take to properly learn the gear changing ?
Finally, thank you all the xBhpians who are providing their sincere help !!!

Re: Best super reliable commuter bike for a newbie ?
Sorry was a bit busy, so directly replying for this query now. . .Originally posted by saifmohdsidOkay now, after a lot of confusion I am almost sick of it
, First of all you are worrying too much about which bike to select. . . stay cool, just a few questions regarding the bikes :
1) Buying a Splendor - Old plus engine or new PRO engine ? Splendor is a good and reliable bike by Hero, after the partition from Honda I don't think that their quality has become too low as one of my friend has the new Hero Splendor and he's quite fine with it and said it's very good. . .
2) Buying a CRUX - Does it carry on the legacy of RX100 and the likes ? Is torque at higher RPMs a problem ? Crux in simple is a simple and cool bike by Yamaha, . . As you said above you don't want any show off/looks, etc., and has mileage is your main factor, this is a good option from Yamaha. . .
3) Buying any other bike - Please read my requirements and advise in a little more detail than just giving its name.
There are lot of other bikes which are good, like the Hero Ignitor, Honda shine (which is reliable but it's bit heavy I guess), dream yuga (don't no much about it), Twister is a good option an also has a decent mileage figure and SS125 from Yamaha, they are all good, you can consider those. . .
4) Spoke or alloy wheels ? Is fuel gauge necessary ? (Thinking about the theft of fuel while the bike is kept in parking for long) For Crux and Dawn spoke wheels suit the best but for other bikes you have in your list, alloy looks great. . .
5) I will not bore you any further, how long will it take to properly learn the gear changing ? It so depends on your capability, I just took 1-2 days for leaving the clutch properly and a week or so to completely ride properly. . . You try to spend some time, practice in your friends or any bike you have at home with others help and try to learn it as quickly as possible, that'd be great. . . After you will fully learn it and you have to buy the bike then, you have other options to consider like as I said above, Twister, Shine, SS125, etc,.
Finally, thank you all the xBhpians who are providing their sincere help !!!
PS: First ride a bike and learn it properly then go and test ride the above said bikes, see which bike you like and buy it, that would be better rather than just choosing a bike and then learn the bike. . .
Hope your queries are answered and you got what I said. . .
Cheers!!!
