  • Best Tourer Bike-- Pillion comfort utmost important

    Hi All,
I'm looking for purchasing a bike primarily for touring. The main requirements would be:

    1. Pillion Comfort - Most Important.
    2. Should be able to do 100-120 kmph without any stress.
    3. Should be reliable.
    4. Budget is not a constraint.

I'll seldom ride solo, so comfort of Pillion will be most important for me. I was looking forward to CBR 250 but on a recent ride from Delhi to Shimla on Avenger 220 got an instruction (or rather an Order ), to get a cruiser bike with a back support as it was comfortable for Her! Hence all the confusion.

Avenger is ruled out as I'm 6'2" & the bike feels small for me. Also the bike seems to peak out at 80kmph.

Please help me in making my decision.

try Thunder-Bird 500.. one of the best RE's available in the market and would be best suited for your height..
also it would do 100-120 kms easily and about your most important aspect, the pillion comfort is also good.. TB's have back support also..

if budget is not a problem, the comes the Harley

      Ride safe and have fun.

When you say budget no constraint- do you really mean that? I mean you should have a floor price or cap price in your mind. For ex- bike priced between 3-5 lakhs etc.

If it should only be a Cruiser.

          What options do you have?

          Avenger: Correctly ruled out. Closed.

Thunderbird 500: Nice comfort. But do not trust RE when it comes to peace of mind, quality and After Sale Service (ASS). Talking as a previous owner of a Thunderbird, sold it under a year and bought CBR250R C-ABS...

I would tell you to take your wife for a test ride of CBR250R. Its a wise decision and surprisingly more comfortable and ass friendly than my Thunderbird!!!! And with the C-ABS, its very safe too, I myself had some occasions where it saved me. Plus the maturity and reliability of Honda is there.

If it's still a no go, there's Hyosung GV250 coming up. Its a cruiser, should be of good quality too, only the ASS may be a problem as they do not have many service centers...

My money's on CBR250R C-ABS... if not that, definitely not a Thunderbird or any RE....

Best way to decide is a test ride with the authority :P !

          Happy Riding!

why don't you have a thought on the Karizma-R.. its one of the best tourers and it has proved itself.. both the pillion and the rider will feel comfortable and then you have the ZMR.. since you are ready to spend money.. I would suggest you go for the CBR250.. like what Valkyrie has said.. take your wife for a test ride and see how comfy she is with it as a pillion.. its got a small seat structure as well for the pillion.. but its worth a try.. without trying we can't say how good or bad the bike is.. afterall when you have the option of test ride.. make use of it

Yup a budget head would help us in helping you.

And as rreneav said, Karizma is a nice option too... I skipped that to CBR250R because you do not have a budget issue, and for the price, it's worth it...

Choose between ZMA-R and ZMR - these are the only choices you have I am afraid. Technically, these are my wife's choices among the current lot of Indian bikes. Perhaps, you can add Bullet 500 (with cushy pillion seat) to the list. Today, I went on a 200km ride with wife on my CBR250 and she doesn't like the seat as much as the ZMA-R. I ve owned ZMA-R, Suzuki VStrom and now CBR250 - all were chosen with exactly your question (same problem from me too) in mind - Pillion Comfort! CBR250 isn't as comfy as ZMA-R/ZMR both for rider and pillion - period!

Re: Best Tourer Bike-- Pillion comfort utmost important

Hey.. Thanks for all your suggestions buddies. Yeah CBR 250 is still on my mind but the problem came with the back support. TB 500 looked great but the reliability aspect drives me down.
The budget aspect is not as objective. I could stretch upto 8 lacs with ease for a HD Iron 883 but only when it gives me a complete peace of mind.(No use of getting an American Bullet ). Moreover its has only a 12 litre tank so that means stops every 200 or so kms.

I'm thinking about getting a CBR 250 & going in for some seat modifications to make pillion seat more comfortable. Currently that seems the most logical option to me.

If Budget is not a constraint, and if you are in need of a cruiser, why not go for Hyosung Aquilla GV650 at 6Lakh ex-showroom, which comes with an optional back support for pillion !

Have a look at the ownership report for the bike by a fellow xBhpian :

That's great as you have dropped a hint over the budget. I would like to offer my reply in two parts:

                          1) As your budget easily pushes you into the SBK category, I think it will be better and more effective for you to seek advice from the actual users about reliability of a Brand, upcoming models and upcoming competition in the Indian market. For this you should ask the honorable moderator to shift this thread into Superbike And Imports . This will help you gain better attraction to your thread and help you in a way more better way. Do add the budget in the name of thread too.

                          2) For CBR250 seat modification, you may write your query on the http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...-cbr-250r.html and mention the link of that post in your next reply on this thread to keep the update on this thread as well.

I hope I was helpful in suggesting you a method to zero-in on a product asap. Keep us posted brother

                          Warm Regards,

If Harley's are out of equation, Checkout these :

DSK Aquila Pro - 16 lts tank
                              DSK ST7 - 17 lts tank
                              Yamaha V-Max - 15 lts tank

Else go for RE as it provides best pillion comfort for its price tag. I doubt you yourself would be a better fit for the bike since anything above 5"10' is not comfortable for pilot.

Do checkout bikes bikes like ZMR since it has fantastic ride quality and pillion comfort.
