since most of the roads are highways (80%) and you'd like to cruise at 80-100 , zma is the best bet.

Uni's mileage will drop above 80 and you need to rev the bike hard to keep in the 80-100 range.

For fz can't say about milegae but cruising at 80-90 is pretty easy on it.

    Overall - i'll choose zma

      +1 to the zma.

have been doing approx 80 km per day for the last two months in city traffic conditions with a pillion. My speeds range from a dead crawl in traffic jams to a max of 100 kph on free stretches. I have been consistently getting a milage of 40+ kmpl (varies between 42-44). First time it happened, I couldn't believe it and I had tracked it more accurately since then.

The secret - using castrol power 1 racing (fully synth, 10w40) and always keeping the revs below 6k rpm. There's lots of torque even below 6k to play around with.

btw - own a sep 2007 zma (approx 17000 km)

        Hi elangoas,
Uni is a great option to consider when your riding is mostly city and partly highways as it offers great handling and comfort in the city commute. But when it comes to 80% highway riding(with speeds hovering in the 60 to 90 range) I feel that a Zma is more justified. 80k is not much for such a wonderful piece of machinery! Go ahead and put your trust on the 'Most Trusted Indian Bike Manufacturer' and get what your heart says!
        Peace.
        Cheers!

Hmmm. Again many of them suggesting ZMA. BTW i have a chance to trade a Oct 2007 ZMA R (Red Colour). It has done 15K kms till date. ZMA's owner has not renewed the insurance, Rear tyre seems to be worn out. No idea abt the Disk brakes pads. So i quoted him 40 K, bcoz i nned to spend close to 5K for insurance, tyres & disk Brake pads. I can go up to the extent of 45K. The owner is not willing to trade anything below 65K. I am sure he must have bought it OTR for around 75K. What would be the best deal.

            Unicorn Rockzs...

I dont know about the Karizma but for unicorn all i could say it rocks....its engine is butter smooth you wont fell the vibration even above 100+
It stays planted on the road all the way since it have allmost the similar weight to karizma 146kg( karizma 148kg)
I use to get these fuel economies when riding at below written speeds with a pillon..
IN the city in normal condition -- 50-53kmpl
            On the highway 45-55 kmph -- 62-65kmpl
            On the highway 55-65kmph -- 55-58kmpl
            on the highway 65-75kmpl -- 50-52kmpl
            on the highway 75-85kmpl -- 45-47kmpl
anything above 100 will return around 37-40 kmpl

regarding there wheelbase the difference is minimal ...uni is having the widest rear base in 150cc segment..monoshock does look up for rest of the comfort and handling

I am in the verge of buying a bike for my daily commute to office. 70kms a day. (35 kms in the day + 35 kms in the night) 80% of the distance on National Highways NH & State Highways SH. Roads are damn good. I own a RX 135 4speed second hand ( 1999 Model) Done more than 75K kms on it till date. I just love my RX 135. I was looking for a new bike in the 150cc+ category which effortless cruises between 80 - 100 Km/hr.

Let me tell you how i chose to the final contenders.

HH CBZ Xtreme - Not convinced with the styling. So ruled it out.
HH Hunk - Same as above. So ruled it out too.

TVS Apache RTR/FI - Nice looks. But not comfortable with pillions ( mother & Wife).

Bajaj Pulsar 150/180 - I have a personal experinece with one of my friends Pulsar 150. Engine sound not good after 40K kms. Doesn't even match my RX 135 engine.

Bajaja Pulsar 200 - Liked it when i borrowed my frineds bike for 2 days to commute. But a bit hesitant because of the 150/180 engine refinement.

Honda Unicorn - I love it to the core. Beautiful engine. The engine never behaves harsh. What a marvel.

Yamaha FZ16 - Beautiful looks. No kick Starter ( How Realiable is it). No Pillion comfort. Many say only good for City.

HH ZMA - Like it. May be my chcoice. Just a temptation because of the better power to weight ratio then the unicorn.

Bullet Machismo 350cc - My younger brother had one. So myself done 15K kms on it. Not happy as it is too heavy and terrible vibrations post 80KM/hr.

So Plz help me to decide between Unicorn / FZ16/ ZMA. MY priorities are 1) Ride Comfort 2) Perfomance 3) Mileage (>40KMPL)

                Thanks
                Elango

Dude, Unicorn and zma are two of the best bikes available in the country as on date, you can R-15 to that list of best bikes. Im surprised you dont have latter in your list of preference, Nevertheless you can use/abuse uni and zma till your hearts content, no matter where ever you go and whomever you ask, you will be showered with good things about these two bikes. Best part is they both are very faithful and wont breakdown that quick.

                    elangoas..

                    A Gladiator owner here.
It is true that the Gladi performs at higher revs.
and it corners and brakes really well and gives good mileage too.
Absolutely no vibrations at all at higher speeds.
Not very good with pillion though, performance does fall, engine feels strained out completely. After all its 125 CC only.
But handling, braking, ride are excellent.
you really cannot enjoy a gladiator until there are corners on the road.

but in your case, it is better that you go for the Unicorn.
It is actually an easy choice. Unicorn is the best for your use.

dude, congo!!! even before the bike has arrived, i wanna be the first one to congratulate u on ur decision!! zma's totally rock the world (or at least the indian scenario!! :P)!! nothing comes close to it's performance and mile-munching abilities!!
u'll hv a rocking time!! and the color is swell too!! (i myself hv a black zma R)
just upgrade the rear tire to 110size n u should be fine!
                        cheerz~!!

The reason being, Uni has a muted exhaust this is one reason it doesn sound harsh compared to the Zma at higher revs. But this is something you won't notice. Zma's torque pull thru the gears is simply thrilling, something the Uni doesn deliver in terms of the "wow" factor. But yes, the Uni has a comfier seat(more cushioning) and an awesome rear suspension.

p.s: I ride a Zma and do swap the ride with my frens Uni on long drives(hence the feedback)
