  • Need Help Buying New bike ! ! [Pune Guys !]

    Hello everyone.
I need your help in choosing a bike.
    Firstly my profile.
    Saurabh-age 21yrs old.
Height between 5'5-5'6 really very slim I weight only 48kgs as of now.
Been riding a Pleasure for almost 2yrs now. And bullet,r15v1 and karizma of a friend ocassionaly. [First one never suited me and I was not 48 at that time either] And maruti swift mostly.
Going to college by car is time consuming and really boring.
Its been more than a year now since I drove any geared two wheeler but I don't think there will be a problem.

So I need a bike now for going to college as Pleasure gives me mileage of around 30/lt [Never actually gave above 36/lt as I ride it at higher speeds] and my back is killing me on pleasure.
Daily riding will be almost 60 km,to be specific I need to ride from Pimpri(Pune) to Bavdhan every day.
    No Long rides.
    No pillion just me.
So I need a bike which will be comfortable ,powerful [I will be riding at around 60-100+ (whatever bike can do) speed on highway after wakad to be specific], bike weight not a big problem but lightweight is prefered, should be stable at speeds of 80 as there is pretty good wind on highway, good road grip highly necessary as these mopeds just swings and slides in wet conditions feels scary.
60-70% highway ride and remaining city ride.
    Low on maintainance.
Budget is not a problem but as I have already invested big amount in my MBA studies I don't feel like spending a lot.
New Apache I don't like its looks but its in my list..
Personally I am thinking to go for new r15 but thinking of mileage holds me back a little.
Anything above 40 I think is good for me.
But then unicorn came into my mind, heard its mileage is good can ride at around 80.
So I am open to all the suggestion from all.
Suggest me bike with good mileage in a budget of 80k [+ -10k] I guess with good looks. If I can't find anything appropriate then mostly r15 will be the choice ! !
Bullet is out of question as I need speed and it doesn't suit my personality.

Apologies for a long post But I hope you guys can help me better with all my above mentioned requirements .

    Regards
    Saurabh K

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

pulsar 180 will do,or else stretch your budget for 200 ns.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

Actually in Pune you should buy a Bajaj bike since you get less tax there.. home advantage for Bajaj bikes. If you can spend 95k at Pune you can get above the crowded segment of 150cc commuter bikes and enjoy Naked Sports.
          Whats there in a signature?

Two things....if you want to save on mileage and dont want to spend too high then choose a bike that costs under 1 lack...and thus saved money could be spent on fuel.for example pulser 200NS costs under 1 lack while CBR150 and R15 costs around 30k or more...so with 30k saved amount you can buy fuel to run bike for 17-18 thousand km. all three bikes have more or less same performance. If you really want a proven value for money bike ..then karizma is still very good option that fits your requirement.

All three don't have same performance. Bro 200NS is distinctively faster than a R15 or CBR150R. R15 or CBR150R may have similar performance.

My everyday ride pattern is very similar to yours. I have to ride from Bavdhan to Talawade from Monday to Friday.
Using a R15 v2 for the same. My experience so far has been great.
Getting average of 42-45kmpl which include speeds of above 100 to max 125kmph, average speeds of 85-95kmph.

Traction provided by the tyres is good during the rains. Infact for the past few months, riding in rains everyday.

Stability of the bike in highway crosswinds is awesome. The only complaint was the stock headlight intensity while returning home at night, and a pair of HIDs has done away with that problem as well.

                      Hmm.
No Fz's for me because of mileage issue.
Are you sure about the mileage figures @hellgate?
So now it comes down to below bikes I guess.
                      Apache series
Unicorn- not sure about stability at high speeds.
Karizma- not sure about mileage of 40 & above.
                      Pulsar 180,200Ns and 220 Fi ? !
                      Then r15.
Does anyone know price for pulsar 180?
Are the Apaches coming with better tire these days? As I have heard old ones had crappy tires.
Won't there be any problems with pulsars as I won't have a lot of time for cleaning and maintaining the bikes frequently maybe once in a month I can manage.

Yes I am sure, cuz I refill every weekend, so calculate FE every week.

I won't suggest you R25 or Duke or NS200, becuase 60kms daily is a big ride, so something averagy with stable would be nice for you??

Rule out R15, infact Avenger or P150 suits this bill, Even impulse is a nice choice.

Avenger is nice and awesome on highway + daily rides on highway!!

else GS150r or Unicorn, P150 (P180 has close average to 40-48kmpl) only these both are good on 100kmph!!
go with a bike which has good average , closest SVC and low maintenance, as your ride is 60kms daily...

I won't suggest you R25 or Duke or NS200, becuase 60kms daily is a big ride, so something averagy with stable would be nice for you??
!Thinking about same but them again the thought comes to mind we buy bike once in a while so why not make it worth !

Speed, please i won't support this at all, sometimes i better but if you are riding daily and thinking of speeding then it will be a habit!!
Well I can not help it.
On highway usually there is traffic jam or accidents hence no other option but to speed on straights as I can not afford to miss out on tuts and presentation.
Once I tried coming home at 60km/h and it took me good 1.5hr to reach home and back hurts like hell then. That was without any jams of course.

People must be thinking on road I am a crazy guy who wear helmet on moped :P
Karizma would be nice for this criteria!! and GS150r or Dazzler. Any bike apart from uincorn or Dazzler or GS150r won't give you even 45-50kmpl....
My friend suggested to go for Apache or unicorn or GS in sequence.
But I am not sure about apache tires.

Rule out R15, infact Avenger or P150 suits this bill, Even impulse is a nice choice.
                            WHat about avenger mileage figures?
                            I think it should be!!

R15, Duke or NS200 or Karizma won't give you average on high speeds, real figures of these bikes are 35-45kmpl.
                            Agreed ! !
R15 is the last resort for me ! !

HH SVC sucks big time in my area actually I didn't even finished/completed my mopeds free services with them.
Lots of confusion for me now <80k or >80k two different things ! !
                            Replies in bolds.
If everything's under control, you're going too slow..

The only bikes which I can think of in your budget which can do 100+ effortlessly are Karizma R, Pulsar 220F, Avenger, RTR 180 and Pulsar 180.
My pick would be 220F for the following reasons:
                              1.Good handling
2.35-40 Mileage in city. 41-42 on Highway.
                              3.Projector
4.Fastest on the highway (even more than 200NS)
5.RPMs would be low in comparison to other bikes in your budget. Will last longer.
                              6.Low spare costs.
