  • A comfortable and powerful bike.

Wanting to get hold of a motorcycle in May 2014. posting well in advance as i have read some bikes have a waiting period of around 4 months. I am mentioning requirements below and seek your inputs -
    1. Budget -- around 1.5 L.

    2. Age -- 30

    3. Height -- 6'1

    4. Weight -- 60 kg

    5. Intended usage - office commute and weekend recreation. occasional touring.

    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement (approx., if any) - none.

    7. City & Highway percentage usage -- 80-20.

    8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running -- 1500 KM/month

    9. City / Town /Village of residence (so we can evaluate road conditions / traffic / terrain / altitude / OTR pricing) - City - Hyderabad.

    other than above -

10.> most comfortable riding position. (something like ZMA/R but i am not sure how new model's would be)

    11.> most comfortable pillion experience.

12.> Reliable quality to avoid frequent visits to service centre. (RE doesn't have a great repute on this i guess)

13.> EFI and disc braking if possible.

14.> Good post purchase support. (parts availability)

    15.> CC - preferable > 200 but flexible.

16.> Some bikes on top of my head - ZMA or ZMR (what's the difference) VS RE (If RE, then which one).

if there is anything else, please let me know. I have owned RTR 160 in past. While i liked the handling, the riding position was too aggressive for me. Thank you, friends.

Zma and zmr differs in the amount if fairing provided, one has fairing like p220,other has extensive fairing like r 15( hope u understood)
My suggestions,u can look forward to p375( it will be there in may 2014)..
Other i dont think will be good, and as usual u can check the new zma/r,i dont think there is other bike that suits your situation. .
( if i were u,i wouldve picked p375 eyes closed)

U can either wait for new pulsar 200ss (rumoured) or go for CBR 150R solely for pillion comfort or R15 (if pillion comfort can be sacrificed) both are awesome hi tech bikes in ur budget...

Thanks for response guys. I doubt any of bikes mentioned above would give me and pillion a relaxed riding posture. a posture where i dont have any weight of body on my palms. So far, i have shortlisted , Avenger, RE (not sure which one) and ZMA/R.

The ZMR has Fuel Injection, the ZMA has a carb.

And yes, go buy yourself a ZMR, since nothing comes close on pillion comfort.

Skip the avenger. You're 6'1, you will struggle on that bike.

Since I am going to take delivery in May, I will wait for review of new karizma . The pillion seat looks rather sporty in the new one.

Honestly speaking, you've made this thread too early.

Re: A comfortable and powerful bike.

Get the existing ZMR. It has good fuel efficiency. Delivers 40-45 even in city conditions(when ridden sanely) and 45+ on highways(maintaining sub 80kmph). Both Karizmas have good low end torque which should help in city traffic, but the ZMR's Fuel Injection should suit you since Karizma R delivers only around 35kmpl in city. I am suggesting the current ZMR since the new ones will have slightly sporty riding position and same goes for the pillion seats. Also the new bike has been tweaked so we do not know how its fuel efficiency will be. If you feel the ZMR is too bulky(some people do) you can look at the Karizma R. As for the differences between ZMR and ZMA:

ZMR: Fuel Injection, Digital Display, Rear disc brake, Tubeless Tires, Oil + Air cooled, Fully faired, Weighs 159kg

ZMA: Carburetted, almost the same old Karizma launched in 2003 with very minor changes, simple mechanics compared to ZMR(which means you can try fiddling with it), rear drum brakes(which suck!), slightly quicker than the ZMR(weighs 150kg), tube tires. I chose it for its simplicity.
Both bikes share same engine, wheels, frame and tank.

Avenger is a No-No in everyday city riding condition(Also considering your height). RE's will be heavy to handle in the city. Though the company claims to have improved the quality some problems do exist(so you may be visiting the SVC occasionally). The CBR250R is the best bike in your budget but maintenance cost will be far higher than all the above mentioned bikes. I have heard CBR's seating position is good though sporty. Give it a try. Duke is also a No-No since you want good pillion comfort.

Thanks for the helpful response. 2 bikes i have shortlisted are ZMR and TB500. I will be reading more before finalizing one. Since i want delivery only in May, i am not sure if current ZMR will be available by that time (and as you have mentioned, i won't go for new ZMR). may be i will have to go for a used one if ZMR is the final choice.

if you like cruiser bike go for tb500 but you need to visit sc for maintainence. if you can manage with 150cc go for suzuki gs150r nothing beats its comfort and it is a big bike and good for you as you have good height. tb500 might look small for you
