  • Selectting a 250cc

Hi all, I am planning to buy a 250cc bike. I am getting confused as in which bike to go for. Right now, I have narrowed my choices to Cbr 250r and hyosung gt250r. I went to their respective showrooms and took the test drives. Cbr is a nice bike. Smooth, nicely built and all. As you all know the gt250r, on the other hand, is not that nicely built. But the gt250r looks amazing. After taking the test drive, I totally fell for the gt250r. But, the reasons that are stopping me to buy it blindly:

    1) Reliability: I don't want to invest so much money on a bike that gives me problems within an year or so.

    2) Servicing quality: I am put up in bangalore. Have been to dsk showroom near ulsoor lake. Now I have jeard that the servicing provided by these people are not that good. I don't know whether that is true or not.

    3) Parts availability

I will basically use my bike for weekend riding, as I have a pulsar 150 for daily commuting.

About me: I am 6ft 1inch and weigh around 86 kg. The gt250r suits me better than the cbr 250r.

The cbr felt faster under lower rpms than the gt250r. I think this is because of the vtwon configuration. Once I hit the 6k rpm mark, the gt250r will show its magic.

Guys, pls help me decide between these two, or if you have any other suggestion, please do let me know.

Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

If you intend to use the bike for weekend purposes, The GT250 would be a better buy.

So I see that you have the moolah for a GT250R!
Add a few k's more and settle with Ninja 300. Peace of mind and boy that bike is hot.

My plan was to go for the cbr. after taking the testride, I fell for the gt250r. I am extending my budget for the gt250r. This is the max that I can go.

Then get the CBR. Avoid Hyosung for now at least.

Are you intended for a faired motorcycle. . ?

The reason for CBR is Honda is well established and is better than Hyosung, I can barely see a GT250R in Mysore, also one of my friend who stays in Chennai said that till date only seven models have been sold from them. . . So, this explains. . .

If you are interested for naked bikes, see the Duke390, a true hooligan. . . Or else if you can wait, the R25/RC200/RC390/Pulsar 200ss/375 are on their way (but I doubt R25 which will take at least another year or so I guess to hit the market), you can consider any one of them. . . My sincere advice, please wait patiently for some months, new bikes are coming, take a test ride of them and see if you like any of them. . .

                Cheers!!!

Hi rakesh, I have been waiting from jun 2012. I have ran out of patience. I would have definitely waited for r25, but I m sure that it will be released in late 2014 or early 2015. And yes I am looking for a faired bike.
About duke, I am above 6ft and weigh around 86 kg. I am sure the duke won't look good on me. And I am not interested in royal enfield.

Why wait for so long, it doesn't make sense to wait this long. Get a bike now and after a couple of years, get another. By then, the market would have many options available.

                    Ride safe and have fun.

Then that's up to you bro , so I think a CBR would be the best buy for you right now, considering overall and also if you take it on weekends and go for touring then this is quite comfortable, though I haven't ridden the GT250R but only GT250 (the naked version), CBR seems better. . .

                      Cheers!!!

Because Hyosung SVC folk in BLR suck!
Parts take long time to arrive, build quality not as good as competition, low resale value. 'Nuff said!

Ok, let me narrate an incident that happened 1 month back.
Location - same place near Ulsoor you went to.

                              Us - What's the price of GT650R?
Rep - Sir, its no longer GT650R, it's GTRRRRR... (sounds like GT-AAAARRRRRR)

Us - Hmm, ok what's special in this bike?
Rep - Sir, it has dual front disc brakes. Stops immediately! (with a beaming smile)

Us - (WTF?) Ok, how is it better than N650?
Rep - Sir, its cheaper by 7k and accelerates like crazy. Also, it has a bigger stock exhaust.

Us - Ok, how about spares?
Rep - Since its a supersports, we don't stock all spares, but I guarantee that you'd get them as soon as possible upon order.

We left the showroom immediately. This is the pre delivery experience. Also, no TR allowed. Yes, Hyosung has improved on quality, but its representatives still suck!
                              Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.
