  • looking for an upgrade.

I'm almost done with my education and have landed with a good job. So my mom decided I need to upgrade my ride. I'm looking at a purchase in the next 6 months. I am up to date with the current choices. I would like to know what to expect in 6 months. What I could buy, is there anything worth waiting for longer than 6 months and all those questions.

About myself : I'm 5'9", weigh about 100kg( be forgiving) and have owned a honda CB twister and currently own a RTR180ABS. So I'm spoiled by ABS. I will be looking at an upgrade to 200cc and above.

As for the budget, I'm not really concrete on this account. I would peg it around 2.5-3lakhs. That's would be the limit.

Riding style - I'm not yet sure of this. I love my RTR's ergo. I found my Twister's ergo boring. I doubt I would be able to take the ergo of the r15 - given my weight and the fact that I have a problem in my left wrist - but I haven't ridden the r15 extensively.

I hope this is enough information. It is quite far off in the future, so theres no hurry.

I don't favor any brand. My main concerns are regarding after sale service and reliability. I don't think theres any brand that has unreliable bikes. Maintenance - I understand a bike in the cadre I'm looking at would be a little heavy on the wallet but I want to make sure I don't have unnecessary costs either.

Last of all I'm based out of bangalore and my riding is mostly in the city. Fortunately my office is not in a very crowded area( I mean traffic density ) though it isn't exactly highway class either. I also tour when I can. I like to show off so a heavy road presence would be good.

I forgot to mention - I would prefer a faired bike. I have never owned one though. And - Pillion comfort is of paramount importance(I have a short girlfriend - so getting on and off the bike is included in comfort). :P

Don't matter what it is: Touring; Racing; Commuting. All I know is, I belong on the saddle.

    Rides : Honda CB Twister(Feb 2011 - Present) | TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS(Sept 2012 - May 2016) | Honda CBR250R C-ABS Repsol(March 2017 - Present)

    Query Approved

At 5.9 you can consider a good bike like Duke 200 and Duke 390, though the latter packs a punch for effortless city riding, but it being stale these days, you won't find any individuality, but you get good road presence.

Secondly you have the newly launched HX250R from Hero, 31 bhp on tap, just the right amount of abracadara you're looking. Check this thread out.

The bike hasn't been launched yet, so you can expect the bike to be launched after the 2014 expo. This bike will be launched in the Q1 2014

You have lots of bikes coming in that range, you have new HYOSUNG GD250 which also has their eyes set for the Auto Expo and then the CBR400 500 and the Bajaj Pulsar 375 and the likes. If you can wait, I'd suggest you to wait till the Auto Expo and see how it fares, so in that sense you get some fresh stuff, and bump up the oomph as you wanted.

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

      Re: looking for an upgrade.

I think you should consider either of these,

      1. Pulsar 200NS, the cheapest for your budget but worth it, good naked bike. . .
      2. Hero HX250R, mann that's a beauty, seriously looks like a super sports bike for me, at a price tag of what is expected as 1.5L, it would be the best buy. . .
      3. Pulsar 200SS/375, can consider either of these depending on your choice. . .
      4. Duke 200, a true hooligan. . .
      5. May be if you can extend it, you can get a Ninja 300 for yourself, . .
      6. I think that's all I can give you now . . .

      Cheers!!!

You must be one of the luckiest here in xBhp!

Anyways considering your budget, D390 would be a good buy no doubt but I too suggest to wait for auto expo as there are many new bikes to be launched.

Btw I too am looking to upgrade

Indeed you're lucky that your mom decided, it took me 3 years and endless hours of arguments until my mom allowed for a bike, initially she used to say, jis din teri bike aayi, uss din me ghar se nikal jaaungi (the day you brought a bike, I'll leave this house) .God knows how I've convinced her

Okay enough ot, back to your query.I think you should check our expo instead asking here as your purchase window has 6 months...

WRT your Budget, the best upgrade from a RTR is D390 as of now. I find no other bike as involving as the 390(Only except may be Ninja 300, If budget allows). I strictly find my CBR 250 quite boring after sometimes. Its nothing special. Jack of all trades, mastered in none.....
Wait till Expo..... But till now, only D390 seems perfect.

                  @ Madhav..
from the current batch of bikes in the market, the best bet is the Duke 390.
The budget range of ₹2.5-3L is quite awesome, if by any chance you could make it work for the Ninja 300, that would be the ultimate upgrade.

Thanks for the Approval. Yes I saw the HX 250 thread. I am looking forward to its release. Hero has failed to impress me so far. I'm hoping the HX250r isnt another. 31ps seems like the perfect deal.

Hyosung bikes seem a bit behind times.. no? I am more worried about after sales than the current-ness of the bike though.

The CBR didn't come across very well to me. If the 300cc or the 400cc versions will be released maybe they will.

The point of this thread is to do a bit of discussion. Everyday I find out about a new bike. I thought we might as well discuss it. So when they do get out there... I have good ground work to rely on.

I feel so too. I have my doubts about the 390 though... single cylinder 400cc... I have to go check the D390 thread once.

Why though.. why is the ninja still the best out there? The 390 has 75cc over it, almost 8bhp more. Its torque figures are what power the ninja produces and last but most importantly, the D390 COSTS LESSER.

Ya, D390 is more VFM bike, but I would go for a twin-cylinder bike, ninja 300 (personal choice)
many more would be released at the auto-expo.

How exactly is a twin cylinder better? Performance wise.

May or may not be better. Mostly, it is up-to personal choice.
Singles are better at providing power low into the rev range, whereas twin make the power as the rpm's build up.
But the twins would feel more relaxed than a same capacity single. (I hope this is the correct explanation )

Seniors would be able to explain this better.
