Need a good performer bike.
Hey xbhpians. This is my first post here. I am Abhishek from Dehradun, Uttarakhand. I currently own yamaha SZR since past 3 years. its superb bike but want to change now.I ride mostly once or twice in a week with my wife as a pillion. I am not a rash rider and ride mostly on 50-60 kmph. I am 23 years old with height of 5ft 8inches. I need a bike with good grip in wet roads, decent performer and comfortable for both rider as well as pillion. My budget is 90k, cant stretch it more. Mileage should be around 45kmpl or more. I have shortlisted some bikes,1 yamaha fazer (my personal favorite)2 yamaha fzs3 avenger4 dazzlerpersonally I love fazer. But is in confusion that is mileage around 40-45 or below 40. If it is 40-45 and pillion comfort is good I think I will go with fazer, and offcourse I am a yamaha fan. Kindly guide me about that. Thanks in advnce.Only a bike rider knows why Dog sticks out his face out of car's window...Tags: None

Re: Need a good performer bike.
SZR and Fazer has got same engines basically, though tuning is slightly different.AFAIK, Fazer will give you few kms less fuel efficiency compared to your SZ.
Dazzler is no longer on sale now, and was relaced by Trigger. You can have a look at Trigger as well.

Re: Need a good performer bike.
The mileage issue of fz/fazer was addressed by Yamaha. Now a days, members have reported getting good mileage figures. Sometimes 45+ km/L. Rest there is no problem with the bike.
You also have Pulsar 200ns in your budget range.
Ride safe and have fun.

Re: Need a good performer bike.
Finally someone from doon,
Brother, your requirements state pillion comfort, but the bike you are inclined towards(Fazer) have a very narrow pillion seat.
I am really skinny guy and even I find the pillion seat very small. The open palm of your hand is enough to fully cover the back seat of a Fazer. To be honest my R15's rear seat is more roomy and comfortable than the Fazer(if you ignore the height).
So I would suggest you to go to the showroom and take a test ride with your pillion in real life city traffic.
As far as mileage is concerned, it depends on your riding style. I get more than 40 kmpl in my R15. what I mean to say is, it varies from person to personI would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Re: Need a good performer bike.
This is true for per 2011 model bike. In late 2012, Yamaha did minor alterations to FZ/Fazer and made the pillion area much wider and longer. Its now much more comfortable.Originally posted by Ankey View PostFinally someone from doon,

Re: Need a good performer bike.
Sorry for my bad grammar, may be because didnt pay much attention in English class. I typed whole question in mobile and yes there also is error in format. My apologies for that. But basically I was asking for a bike which I can ride with confidence in hilly area. Mileage is not much of concern, 40-45 will be good and Pillion comfort is must needed.Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostApproved!Kindly take some time to proof read what you typed and maintain proper grammar. thanx for the suggestion brother. I will definitely check out pulsar 200NS.Originally posted by nadz11.ns View PostThe mileage issue of fz/fazer was addressed by Yamaha. Now a days, members have reported getting good mileage figures. Sometimes 45+ km/L. Rest there is no problem with the bike.

Re: Need a good performer bike.
I dont think you would get mileage of 40 or above from fazer. Owners get approx 35 kmpl.
By the way, Pulsar 200 NS also falls in your budget. I am getting mileage of 38 - 42 approx. So your mileage part is fulfilled.
I have had my sister as a pillion few times and she said that except for the seat height, the pillion seat is comfortable.
I have myself been a pillion on both the NS and the FZ. From my experience, the Fz's pillion seat is less comfortable than the NS.
Also you said, you would ride the bike on hills. IMO fazer has less power for hills. But it has passed the wind tunnel test so it would be easy to handle in cross winds.
The NS has ample amount of torque and BHP for steep climbs. As its naked so you would face strong cross wind deflection.
Also look at RTR 180 ABS, if you can live with its vibes.
In the end the choice is yours.

Re: Need a good performer bike.
An upgrade from SZ to Fazer/FZ is not a big one. Please take a test ride of Pulsar NS. I'm sure you will like it.
Also try Trigger from Honda. Nice bike. Btw, 2014 Karizma R is also available now within the same price range

Re: Need a good performer bike.
Check out the Karizma R and 200 NS. Also if you can, wait for the FZ version 2.0 which is supposed to have a higher power output than the present lot.A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Check out the RTR 180. Vibes are not that prominent as people say. A good service centre/mechanic is all you need.Apache RTR 180 2011 | Honda Activa 2010 | CBZ Xtreme 2010 (1 month) |Apache 160 FI 2009-2010

Re: Need a good performer bike.
Honda CB trigger is a decent bike that provides your needs. I personally though don't like this decent get up and posture; but the engine reliability, comfort and decent performance it provides are a good combo pack. Fazer's mileage should be 40 only if you avoid rash driving and high speeds; which it may not provide if ridden at 80-90 kmph. The pillion seat now is little bigger than the earlier model; your wife may not have big problem if she is not much on the healthy side.

Re: Need a good performer bike.
Thanks to all for your suggestion. Yamaha r15 is way beyond my budget. Pulsar 200ns is a cool bike but my wife doesn't like it although can anyone tell me what is its price tag. Trigger's look is not so good (personal view).
So I finalized three bikes-
1- bajaj avenger 220 (looks good and powerful, but concern about its reliability in long term and its braking)
2-Yamaha fazer (have soft corner for it in my heart)
3-Karizma r ( personaly don't like karizma but have heard and read good reviews about it. Will give it a try.)
I am posted in rural area and ride usually on weekends i.e coming home on Saturday and returning back on monday, meanwhile riding in city whole sunday.Roads here are curvy and wet most of the times, so braking and handling is utmost priority (comfort comes secondary than safety, as I have met two accident on this route only because my bike skid even on 40 kmph). I do approx 80km in one stretch and I am not a rash rider or speed freak, usualy ride within 40-70kmph.
My concern with avenger is its braking and also reviews says that pillon seat is not so comfortable. For fazer, i took test drive yesterday with my wife as a pillion. She find it comfortable but I am not sure if that comfort will last for long rides and there are not so good reviews about its rear tyre (written they are puncture prone).
I am looking to keep bike for next 5-6 yrs, thus want it to be reliable enough.Only a bike rider knows why Dog sticks out his face out of car's window...

Re: Need a good performer bike.
200 NS costs about 96,000 Rs on road.
But reliability is not one of the strong points of Bajaj, be it anything from discover to pulsar to avenger.
please read the owner's reviews on Xbhp itself, and you'll know how bad reputation Bajaj has built among their customers.
Also the Eurogrip tires that come with 200 NS are really nasty. slips like hell even on the dry road, forget about rain and wet roads.
The rear tire of Fazer is soft compound rubber, tubeless radial one, which gives superior grip on tarmac but not so good for off roading.I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.
