    Re: [RFC]: Bike suggestion

Honda still provide engine to hero like 110cc,world famous splendour 97cc.if they just stop splendor then see the result.they know that is the reason they not do any changes to the engine.it is still the old engine very reliable but has no top end and mileage as compared today 100 cc bike.

Take exampl bajaj patina 100 most reliable from kawasaki and tag it gets bajaj.first used in the boxer then ct100.best in mileage and top speed, pickup and made honda splendor to eat dust.

The yamaha, suzuki 100-110cc bikes are not sale to much as compared to splendor it does not mean that the bikes are not reliable.people buy bikes so that they get spare parts easily available and many other reasons

The royal enfield 350 has the most resale value bike in the indian history but this is also the most unreliable bike in the indian history but it still sells because it has metal parts ,big look and the final is the thump.

      Re: [RFC]: Bike suggestion

Knowing that this is your first bike. I think you should stick to Honda or Hero even if they command a premium over Bajaj or TVS. They are usually trouble free, have better overall build quality and won't require maintenance that would be too expensive.

Considering your frame, in 100 cc even if a little pricey - the Passion x pro is good if you want a little style. Otherwise, Honda Dream Yuga and Neo are simple looking, reliable and smart bikes. Don't forget you will always get a better resale value on 100 - 110 cc Hero and Honda bikes than Bajaj or TVS counterparts.

Wrt aftersales, once the warranty is run out if you can find a trusted mechanic, these bikes will be very long lasting.

        Thanks everyone.

As per suggestion added Honda and Yamaha in the list. But not yet to narrow down the models from these brands. YBR is not looky, will see. And there is no price details in Yamaha website, I guess price details from the third party site would be way off from the actual. But for now, that's all I have.

I was laughing when I read it first. But... I was just giving enough details to get the best possible response. You know... First bike, dreaming a lot... Actually I had been dreaming for Classic Battlegreen for few years now, until I learned that Battlegreen is not for individuals in India. And when I recently I googled to know the price, I was like wow!!! that's too much. Only if I have a big fat budget.

I guess I haven't told what I am looking for pertaining to the looks of the bike. I am not looking for super sporty look. But something little reasonably good. For example I like Phoenix's, Yuga's. 125M and Star City + is not that good, but ok as they have at least black alloys.

Now my eyes are mostly on the bikes when traveling. It seems like most of the bike's tyres are so thin.

            Re: [RFC]: Bike suggestion

I am in the same dilemma dude.
Even I am looking for a bike in the 100cc-125cc segment and had the same thoughts that Yamaha is bit overpriced but after taking TD of SS-125 ,I must say there is something in yamaha bikes that other bikes don't have.
Though I have still not decided my bike but my experience with Honda was pathetic,I asked for TD of Twister and god damn they had the Bike punctured and when I asked them to at least provide a bike in proper condition, they just refused. After arguing for like 10-15 mins they finally fixed the puncture and then when they gave me bike,it never started and after 5-10 mins of fighting with bike, they finally managed to somehow start the bike. The bike was in such poor condition that before even taking TD,I dropped twister from my list.
Took test drive of Star City and Suzuki Hayate also and considering all the bikes Yamaha tops my list but still its mileage and spare parts bother and my father just don't like Yamaha because of its low mileage although I would definitely go for it considering the smoothness it offered.
            Here is my list:
            SS-125>Hayate>Star City>Twister.
My father is insisting me to go for Star City but I don't know why,I just didn't like it,still in a lot of dilemma.
Bajaj is out of my list,as my father has no trust on Bajaj bikes.

              Re: [RFC]: Bike suggestion

SS125 is a very good bike and is one of the least talked about. And this comes from a proud and satisfied owner of 2 years. I get 50-52 within city and 54-55 on highways. That may be 2-3 kmpl less than others but makes up for in ride quality and performance. You may not like other 110-125ccs once you ride a SS125.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

                Re: [RFC]: Bike suggestion

Glad to see someone looking in a similar category bikes. Most of the thread in first page discussing 150c+ bikes.

I am reading good about Star city +
                + Good ride quality
                + Light weight, easy handling
+ improvement in the overall fit and finish with better quality of switches and plastic
+ digital trip and fuel indicators and an econometer that shows when you ride in economy or power mode
+ The plastics seem stiff and strong and so will probably be less likely to rattle and squeak once the bike is well used

Went to Yamaha Showroom to know the pricing of their bikes 100-125cc. I was told there is no YBR125??? Is it? But I saw it's there in the pricing chart. I don't know, may be they want to push SS125. Yamaha's website probably the poorest in the lot. Not much info.. YBR 125 has only drum bike though the photos suggest that it has disc variant.

                YBR110 - 54400
                SS125 - 65400

Both are on road price. The good thing is I can take delivery right away if the payment is in "cash mode". SS125 is way off of my budget. Pricing wise YBR is cheaper than Yuga. Yet to start dig about YBR. Will see...

Motorbeam is doing comparison of 125M along with few other 125cc bikes. Waiting for it to get published. Will give some insight, I hope.

                Little off topic.
BTW, I read few reviews of Centuro. They are offering loads of feature for an entry level bike. Impressive.
Splendor Classic Pro looks good. Would be success if it's a performance oriented bike like RX100. Yamaha take this as a cue and make something like that...

Are you talking about the new "Star City Plus"? Because I quite liked the bike.

My suggestion for 100CC would be,
1.Star City Plus- Perfectly priced and feel good product due to build quality and good handling.
2.Discover 100: The most powerful 100CC and good build quality.
3.Honda Dream Yuga: Great Engine, though plastic components seems compromised.
4.Hero Splendour: You can buy it eyes closed. But a design too dated and Hence at No. 4 on my list.

                  125CC-
1.SS125: Though it doesnt generate numbers, but its the best 125CC in the market even today. Only grouse is the low mileage of around 50-55Kmpl.
2.Honda Shine: Brilliant Engine, But feels more like a 100 CC, due to vibrations starting at 60kmph. Recomended for sedate riders though.
3.Discover 125: Powerfull of the lot. Descent build quality.
4.Glamour: Again, you can buy it eyes closed, but the disproportionate and out dated design....

                    Re: [RFC]: Bike suggestion

Seems like I will be buying sooner than expected. Do they give any offers for this festive season?

Reading lot of negatives about Honda ASS esp. for low end bikes. Do you guys got to say anything about this?
Star City + vs Discover 125M vs Phoenix vs Yuga. Most likely it will be between Star city + vs 125M. If I don't like 125M when I take test ride, I will end up buying Star city I think. The major concern after reading reviews about 125M is narrow handlebar, tyre and distance between rider and handlebar is so short.

These bikes are metal built or plastic built???

Is this possible to get after market disc brake for Star City + ? If yes, how much it would cost me?
This is just an idea, switching the front drum brake 130mm to rear (replacing 110mm) and get a after market front disc brake.

Yes brother, the Honda service centers are pathetic, they think the customer knows nothing about bikes and will give strange reasons for their fault. If by chance a customer complains anything about his bike or faces any problem, the Honda service center guys always find fault with the customer.

As for the build, the only metal part in the bike is fuel tank, suspension, Handle bar, chassis and alloy wheels, rest everything is plastic (This goes from 100cc bikes to R15 and CBR). The only thing that differs is the quality of the plastic and the fit and finish. I would still advice to stay away from Bajaj bikes. Choose wisely.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.
