  • good looking bike @80k INR

    hello everyone,
i am looking for a new bike and i need your help in choosing the right bike for me.

    age: 20
    height: 6"0
    weight: 67kgs
    daily commuting: 40km in city

i live in ahmedabad and i need a bike to commute to my college..
that's 40km of daily ride. i have to travel from one end of the city to the other end of the city..
so most of the time i will be riding in city..

    priorities:

    - fuel economy is important..
anything above 40kmpl would be good..
    45kmpl+ would be great..

    - styling is equally important as fuel economy.. street fighter isn't my style, so no to fz (not sure if fz would fit in my budget either).

    - riding with pillion:
most of the time i will be riding with a pillion..
so pillion comfort is important. and pillion should not affect performance and most importantly fuel economy..

    - maintenance: i understand that maintenance of the bike depends on how you drive the bike.. given that if i follow the maintenance chart provided by the manufacturer, the bike should not give me much trouble.

most of the time i ride sanely.. i don't accelerate too quickly.. on highways i like to cruise at 70-80 kmps

    -performance:
although performance is not the top priority, bike should be able to overtake slow moving traffic fairly easily.. also when i ride solo in city i like to accelerate when i find open space.

for now i am considering to go for pulsar 180dtsi.
my brother owns a p150dtsi and i have ridden it many times.. so i assume performance would be better than
    p150.

a friend of mine owns p180 and he claims that he gets 49kmpl mileage.
so i think p180 is the bike for me..

    is this the right choice?
or should i look for other bike?
    any suggestion would be appreciated..
    thank you

any bikes top speed, fuel economy will be affected even riding with a pillion due to extra weight.

since you have a shortlisted p180, it's a good bike and you can go for it.

other options are hero xtreme, apache rtr 180, fz v2 if you can extend budget.

Why not the new discover 150, it matches all your requirements

how much reduction in FE am i looking for when riding with a pillion weighing 50-55kg ?

like i said, street fighter isn't my style.. so i am not considering fz v2..
though it looks very good but not my style.
and i have tried apache rtr but it feels short.. performance wise it was very good.. but i think it is not for 6 footers.. i like the looks of rtr but feels very short to me.

i will try extreme and will see how it goes..
          thanks for the reply

new discover 150 is good on paper.. but the fairing looks too plasticky in my opinion..
i didn't like the styling of discover..
still will decide when i see it on roads.. how it looks on road to real eyes..

            Hi brother,
Regarding fuel consumption with a pillion on, you can expect 5 kmpl less on an open road, and anywhere between 10-15 kmpl less in traffic jams and stop and go traffic.
As you are quite tall I would suggest you to check out new hero Xtreme. It will suit you .
Also try out the suzuki Zixxer 155 and GS150R. Very good and reliable bikes with sooth engine.
Take test rides and then decide.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Re: good looking bike @80k INR

80K gives you a budget only upto 180cc bikes and we don't have much options in that segment. Any bike added extra weight is definitely going to feel less powerful and is going to give out less mileage..

The Mileage figures given by the company is tested under standard testing conditions.. with the rider being 60 kgs and riding the bike within the economic mode.. as in within 40-60 kmph... our daily use is never going to be within the standard conditions..

your weight is 67 kgs so even if you add 53 kgs as a pillion, the bike has to pull double the weight of the standard testing conditions.. If you want good FE (Fuel Economy), the ride the bike in under 60 kmph with proper gear shifts and proper maintenance..

My ZMR used to give me 50+ kmpl on the highways riding at 80-90 kmph and in city limits 43 kmpl.. haven't checked the city avg recently.. but on highways riding at 110 kmph to 120 kmph it returned an avg of 35 to 45 kmpl...

Re: good looking bike @80k INR

FE takes a beating in traffic conditions compared to freeway.

for example: My karizma gives 32 under heavy ripping and maintaining 120 and above without a pillion, with pillion at 120, it gives 25-27. things are worse in
                start stop traffic.

every bike engine is different and you can shift at right time(not too early, not revving too much) and ride below 60, you will get a good economy, since you are above 6 feet, i guess only hero xtreme will be good in terms of comfort, but the pillion seat is very high compared to apache or fz.

50-55kg pillion, I am assuming its a girl :P, Just kidding. P180 should match your requirement , both in performance and FE, If ridden solo, and sanely(60-70 kmph) , You must definitely see 45+ kmpl. But with pillion and in stop-go traffic, you can see a drop of 5-7kmpl. Which will be more than 40+ kmpl on avg.

From my experience, pulsar 180 is a good bike for you provided you like to take care of it. I'm getting 50+ constantly in city under sane riding... In highways, at 70-90 kmph solo riding, I get 45+ kmph... But I like to maintain my bike in its peak condition.....

i have seen hero xtreme on roads quite a few times.. but i am not impressed with the design.. loved the tail lamp though
and the under seat mobile charging feature is good too
but the lack of engine kill switch is disappointing..
i may not give xtreme top priority but i loved the design and graphics of the hero xtreme sports..
i read on internet that hero may launch xtreme sports before festive season.. if it is true, i will be giving it a serious consideration..

that's what one of my friend said..
he gets 49kmpl on highway.. and he strongly recommends p180

has your p180 have given any major trouble to you?
how much you spend on maintenance?
also, does p180 gives any trouble during winter mornings in starting?

my brother owns p150. its more than 2 year old and has completed 15k kms and hasn't given any problems yet except for the battery. had to replace the battery once as self start was not working properly..
other than that everything has been good..

will do a TD of xtreme, xtreme sports (if launched soon) and p180 (and probably gixxer as well)
if everything goes according to plan..
will get a new bike during diwali..
still have 24 days to decide

I've completed 8k kms in my p180 in 10 months of ownership. The bike has never given me any sort of troubles. Done just the usual maintenance started in the service manual. Stock battery is good till date and the choke hasn't been used even a single time even in cold starts. Don't worry about the absence of kicker as its button start is reliable. Also, high speed stability is great even at 90+ speeds..

You can check out the GS150R as well. Very understated machine but one of the best in the segment. Suited for tall riders. Many bikers have tasted the limits on various terrains but GS150 has passed each one of those.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

you live in South and it isn't cold down there Any Carbd engine will have starting problem during winter where the temperatures are below 5 degrees..

I went to chanshal Pass during the long weekend last week on my ZMR along with a RTR 180 and a RE Classic 350.. the temperature was below 2 degrees.. the next day morning, my ZMR started with the 1st self.. whereas the RTR180 took some 6 self start attempts with the help of choke and the RE Classic 350 started only after 20 self start attempts with the help of choke.. even after the bike started, it wasn't idling properly..

I used to own a P180 and I am sure the quality of the bike is better than before but still not upto the mark..

@Thread Starter.. Wait for the P180NS which is bound to be launched soon by this year end.. I don't find a point in buying the P180 now when you know a 180 NS is going to be launched soon.. Just a suggestion

We don't know the upgrades they have done to the engine, what if the engine has more power and much smoother with better refinement and reliability.. It is highly possible

                              Cheers,
