• Hello All, Need a new bike after 8 yrs

Hi All,

It gives me great pleasure to back on this forum and ask you all for the help in selecting a new one.

About Me:

Im Nitin, based in Bangalore for the last 38 yrs, and Im 38 yrs now. Work with an IT co which is a start up. Im 5.5

Need:

I need to travel about 30Kms one way, in this crazy traffic, I own a car which I have been using, however since my work location changed Im thinking of a new bike which should help me in my commute. It takes two hrs one way and sometimes more depending on the traffic, which im thinking of reducing which is the main aim to buy a bike (& of course mileage ). My budget is about a Lac.

Past:

I had couple of bikes, and have ridden extensively, the previous bikes are :

1. Hero Puch (about 75K Mileage on that, not kidding!)
2. Hero Honda Splendor (about 42K on that)
3. Pulsar 180 CC classic (about 63K on that)
4. Activa (Mu current bike, which has done about 40K)

Im planning to sell the activa and go for a bike.

My Thoughts:

Im inclined towards a bike which gives me good ride handling (Im over 38 yrs now .. ) , good suspension, good ergonomics, good power, good torque (I cant ride the 150 cc bikes..i feel under powered and not worth the ride of commuting from home to work)
I have no idea about the bikes available now, so kindly put in your thoughts to help me buy one which should happen soon (in less than a month or soon)

Approved!

Welcome back. Loved the 38 years wala line.

So, you need something that's faster than cars within the city/reduces commute time but gives decent enough mileage. I smell 125 cc bikes here. But then you say you feel 150cc bikes are under powered and your budget is a lac! So you need a 200 cc mill.

My suggestions (bikes only, since you're already planning selling a scoot)- Honda CB Shine 125cc and Pulsar 200 NS.

BTW, read through this too - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/what-bik...e-comfort.html

Welcome back bro...Since you are not much inclined towards 150 cc mill...and also considering your height factor, 200NS would be good choice for the power and torque, good daily commute bike. Also P180 also cannot be ignored for a bike < 1lac. We have heard rumors that Pulsar 150 is gonna have a face lift similar to 200 ns, but don't know when. when that comes, its gonna come with more power and more torque presumably.

But for now what available with us, 200NS is bang for the buck...

Good suggestion Divya Sharan. But I feel bikes like pulsar 220, karizma are greatly underappreciated. For crn12 these bikes would be low maintenance and satisfactorily powerfull as well I think. What say?

Sir,I suggest you to Test-drive and Consider the TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS.This Babe is Real Fast and has 17.5 Bhp on Tap ! ABS is A Life-saving Feature.On-road Prie will be under a Lakh.Though a Pulsar 200 NS would be a Better Choice. But It is Costlier too.

P200NS might be a little too high for you.. I am not sure if that would be a good option.. if you want less maintenance then the Karizma is a good option for you.. but at the same time, you want good Mileage which you cannot expect from a 200+ cc bike.. well, I mean you can expect 40+ kmpl but nothing more than 43 kmpl at max..

RTR180 is a good option but the vibrations might kill you.. P220 is again a good option but mileage and maintenance might take a hit on your pocket..

I would suggest you test ride the P200NS and see if you are comfortable with it.. and then test ride the P220, and then the Karizma & RTR180.. see which one suits you best.. all the bikes mentioned are below 1L.. also invest on safety gears

P220, I am getting a mileage of 42+ kmpl driving at 60-70 kmph, maintenance wise, its not that harsh on your pocket...

As said by reneav, test ride the p220 and the karizma. Mileage of zmr is more than p220 and maintenance is lower too. However performance of pulsar is brilliant and helps a lot in traffic. Test ride these both bikes. Also the new FZ series from yamaha are good. Best way to go about is test ride all the shortlisted bikes and decide which you feel comfortable.

Wow bro with that mileage and those speeds, your bike is a miracle. you must have maintained and tuned it right that is the only explanation.

Nope. No miracle. Visit the ownership thread once and you'll know. Infact our very own moderator had got 57kmpl on one of his road trips! And almost all of us do get 42-43+ in cities and 50+ on highways if we do 80-90kmph. Power of the FI you see. lol! That's the explanation to all these miracles.

Hi Nitin, I'd suggest you Karizma R and the GS150R. And I own none of these two.
Karizma R is a decently powered smooth machine that will return you a fair enough mileage. It's a proven workhorse with unmatched networks.
Else, you can opt for the GS which is a very good machine for your age(don't get me wrong - I'm 30 as well ). May seem a little underpowered but is a very good handler with a good engine and good FE(thanks to the 6th gear). My colleague has been commuting 80-82 km.s daily on his GS150R for the last two years.
After a certain age, we definitely don't need a flashy or the quickest off the block machine like a R15/Duke200/P200/Apache180. These are excellent machines but not for sedate riders. And having clocked so much km.s on various bikes I think you know it better than most of us.
Take a TR. All the best.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.
