  • Select Bike between Suzuki Gixxer SF or Pulsar AS200..

    Hi All,

This is my first post in XBHP.

I would like to know your suggestion on a good bike for my needs.

    1. Budget - 1 Lac (can add more 4-5 k max)
    2. Age - 27 Years
    3. Height - 5'10"
    4. Weight - 76Kg
    5. Intended usage - Daily Office commuting for 30 KM to and fro and some weekend drive near by pune withing 60-70 KM(max 1 in a month).
    6. Pillion comfort seat - Need pillion comfort seat as I will be going on weekend drive with my wife.
    7. City & Highway percentage usage - 80% City - 20% Highway
    8. Mileage Figure - Should be between 40 -50 Km/L.
    9. Low maintenance cost.
    10. City / Town / Village of residence - Pune

I dont change my bike frequently and planning to purchase a long lasting bike at-least for 6- 7 years.

Some of the sort listed bike are below:

    1) Suzuki Gixxer SF : I checked it in showroom, costing Rs 95000 OTR in Pune, black color SF is amazing, I wasnt able to test ride as only demo bike is available but actually test ride gixxer naked version, test ride seems good to me. I feel this will be my next bike, Please suggest.

2)Pulsar AS 200 : Its is costing 102000 OTR in Pune, looks good, Not able to test ride this as only demo available, less inclined towards pulsar as I heard pulsar bike gives problem after 3- 4 years, Not sure durability of the 200NS /AS ( Really need your input).

Currently i owned Hero Passion Pro ..

Please suggest which bike perform well in respect to given points by me, Also please suggest me if i should look for other then this two bike.

    Thanks in Advance !!!!

If pillion comfort is important, then take your wife along for the test ride and let her help in deciding.

Also i am not sure if the Pulsar will give 40+ kmpl regularly.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

        Thanks The Monk!

Yes I will be doing test ride by this weekend as the dealer told that test ride will begin some time in this week.
But still 5 min of test ride will not full proof for riding comfort check (i think),
So people having Gixxer and pulsar 200NS/AS might provide feedback for a long ride comfortableness on pillion seat.
Mileage can be adjusted +-5, But the bike should be long lasting with low on maintenance.

Being test ridden both, I would say go with the Gixxer SF if you a sane rider who doesn't want to rev really hard. . . The bike is comfortable riding at 80 kph with no stress on the engine, looks too good, as you said above, the black is the hot seller . . . Coming to the AS, it's pretty good, a NS which got a little better looking . . . So finally SF for better mileage, sane speeds, good performer, overall the quality too is really good and AS for more power, Jack of all and decent mileage too . . .

PS: Take that "pulsars aren't reliable" thing out of your mind as the new pulsars are way better in quality and it all depends on how you maintain your bike. . .

          Cheers!!!

You can choose either of the two eyes closed. But yes take your wife with you for test ride. IMO pillion seat of AS/NS200(split seat) is more comfortable than Gixxers(narrow seat).

              Hi Sachin
Both the bike have differences when it comes to power.
Having said that it does not mean a bike excels only if it has more power.

              Power:
When it comes to low end torque, both bikes have good capabilities but the gixxer having a 155cc engine (14.8ps of power) will lag tad bit behind the pulsar having a 200cc engine with a fair power advantage. But its not about speed or acceleration.
Iv ridden both Ns and gixxer. Inspite of more bhp on the pulsar end, I liked the cruise of gixxer more as it had the exact torque needed for city commutes.
              With pillion Ns performed better.

              Comfort:
Gixxer to me was way more comfortable than Ns. Good ergonomics, upright wide handle bars.
From what you mentioned I think gixxer will be a better bet.
              Personal opinion.
              Chose wisely

As your height is 5'10".I think as150 will meet most of your requirements. It will offer better mileage nd also be low on maintenance.

150AS might be a better option than 200as if you are into mileage. I own 200ns and the pillion seat is large enough but quite hard need some time for getting used to.

Re: Select Bike between Suzuki Gixxer SF or Pulsar AS200..

Thank a lot for all your feedback.

I have test ridden both the bike, Below is the points.

Gixxer SF: Found exactly as you all told it is really good to drive in city , handling is way better then any bike I have ridden, Its quick, this bike is really fun, No negative point found.

With regards to the pillion comfort it seems to be good initially while not sure for the long journey (say 30-40 KM), We used the bike for 2- 3 KM on the old Mumbai-Pune highway, her height is five and half and seating and getting down on bike for the pillion is really easy, not even used the rear foot rest. She was so happy Its a big plus point .
It seems a win win situation for me to get the gixxer SF But waiting period is 30 days

Pulsar AS200 : Looks is really cool, Black as well as Red, both are in solid color unlike the ongoing NS. Projector headlight, both front and read disc brake for safe riding.
Test Ride: Its really a heavy bike, I was not able to take a quick turn, found a bit uncomfortable to handle in low speed, test ridden it in the bajaj premises in a very narrow path, so not even crossed 35 KMPH, Might be a different story at the higher speed, Need to take a road test drive.

Pillion seat comfort is fine, but it requires extra effort to seat on and getting down from the bike.
The showroom sales person told if its heavy then go for lower variant AS150 which will be available in coming 15- 20 days, It will be a similar looking bike as AS200 but with a lower engine capacity only and cost Rs 10000 less then the price of AS200 (i.e. OTR Pune 90K for AS150) .

Now AS 200 is out from my shortlisted bike.

Should I check pulsar AS 150 too and wait 20 days for its availability in showroom Or should go with Gixxer SF?

Please suggest I am a bit confused as Gixxer SF also requires 30 day waiting period.

Yes Friend its quite good and comfort as well.
I have used FZS for couple of week, My cousin owns it, not choosing it because now its seems a bit old on the road to me,
Also I will not be changing my bike in coming 5- 7 years , So down the line after two three years it will show it edge and might be too old.

Yes I am a sane rider not a rev one.
test ride even clearer that I should settle down for 150 cc engine. Now I am thinking to get gixxer sf or AS 150 as mentioned previous reply.

Is AS150 is having the same pulsar 150 engine or its a different one , dont have enough info except its look like similar to AS200. also yet to available in the showroom.

                        Hi Sachin,
I honestly think you lost your heart out to gixxer already. It may just be just to console the inner soul that you checked all the options.
Jokes apart, I think there will hardly be any marginal difference in weight between the as 200 and 150. However best bet will be to wait it out a few more days and see the bike out front and then chose.
                        Regards,

@Sachin_786 AS150 has new engine, It seems to be a scaled down version of NS200. The power figures have been bumped up too.

Just wait for 15 days and check it out.

Any of the option AS150 or Gixxer would be a wise choice, your heart has to tell you the answer

                              Why not the AS150.

Has power as much as the R15.

Triple spark tech should return 50+ kmpl.

                              Pillion seat is decent.
The bike is pretty well handling.

                              Take a Test Ride.
