  • Sport bike for learning

    Hi riders,
I am a mechanical engineering student(3rd Year). I am going through the forum for a few months and now i have got a decision to make. I had a chance to get RC200 but it gone as a dream. But now I have got another chance ,but this time my parents offered me to have a Triumph daytona 675 the bike that i dreaming for months(but strictly next june for my bday),And i convinced to get a bike to learn now. So before getting it,I need a suggestion for buying a bike to learn riding extensively.

Experience: about 2K kms in activa 2007 model
Few hundred kms in hero honda hunk, fazer, pulsar 150,cbr150r,200NS(Friends bikes during rides)
I had no access to any small capacity beginner sports bikes till now (250r,RC's,dukes etc)
    I am 5"7 and 60kgs(lean)

    Requirement:
1.No problem about riding position as i will get used to it in a month or so.
    2.Daily ride will be 50kms( 40% city,60% highway)
3.Price can be upto 5 lakh ( whatever the price is ,I Have to make promise about getting excellent grades and no arrears etc to convince them, but they can get it without much fuss)
    4.Must be a faired one
5.Not frequent but weekends can be nearly 300 kms and more.
6.I won't sell the bike even i buy an another,so resale value is not a strict requirement.
7.After learning in this bike I must not struggle in my daytona 675r

    Preferences
    1.Kawasaki Ninja 300
    2.RC 390
And if there is another bike to go for, what bike please suggest me???

    A few questions:
1.I am in coimbatore and the nearest triumph showroom is in bangalore(325 kms away),If i get this bike, am i have to take it bangalore for each service or is there another way??
2.If I pick the bike in bangalore can i able to register it on my city
(I have no experience in buying bikes and registering and all ,so only asking )
3.Can i go for a Hyosung 650r(budget can be extended but for a small limit) and will i be able to handle it?

    Query Approved

Since you do not have much experience of bikes. Why don't you get a RC200/ RS200. Learn to ride for a year or more and then progress to the Daytona.

When you buy your bike from Bangalore, it will be registered in CBM itself. With regards to servicing, you will have to check with the showroom/ manufacturer or owners.

Your Point No. 7 was hilarious!
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Ninja could be the ideal bike as it has the taste of both worlds. It can be a awesome track bike and a great tourer too.

Handle the bike with great maturity and not like a lunatic who gets a name of rich spoiled brat, owning a death machine.

Also be careful with your right wrist as not only Daytona 675 even rc or ninja will bite you badly as you have little kms clocked under your belt.

Above is being said not to discourage you but some wise words before owning something, which will change you In the right way or wrong way.

Choice is yours and whatever you buy, do keep us posted about your acquisition.

      Cheers,
      Sanjay

Go for Ninja 300. It's an amazing product and you can tour as well on it. RC 390 is a great track bike but it might hurt on 300 km rides.

I think you should get RC 200, it has super sport riding posture which will help you in learning a lot of skills and most importantly since you have not much experience in these bikes you will get used to it. RC 200 will cost you around 1.85-1.90 L ( not sure of exact price ) abd then you will be having margin for getting good riding gears. Test drive both RC twins and keep us updated.

          Ride safe 😊

Thank You for approving monk . Yes RC 200 is a great bike but a guy in my college of another Dept is holding it,I dont like him. He was showing off which makes me annoying a lot. If I get something bigger than his I think its much better. So I dont want something that he is holding, hence i rejected RC 200 for that reason (Somewhat it became personal for rejecting it) and ya The point 7 is something stupid but i was curious a bit

                Re: Sport bike for learning

Check the ownership thread of both bikes. You will find the ninja without any trouble, but quality comes at a price. Whereas the RC twins are bang for the buck.

Check ownership threads, look for maintenance costs, spares and other parameters which you find useful.

If you plan to keep the bike for 4-5 years RC would do it. Ninja is evergreen.

My personal opinion, go for ninja. The most trouble free bike in 250-300 category.

                Cheers,
                Sanjay

I agree with you . Ninja 300 seems better quality comparatively... I will keep the ninja with me even i buy some big bikes. I think that Ninja is something for me. Got the quotation for ninja. Its Rs. 3,79,881 on road at Joe's international, kottayam, kerala. Hope I will get it in a month or so

                    Re: Sport bike for learning

Well. Here's my opinion. The Daytona 675R has a mighty aggressive stance of riding. It churns out some mad power. The Ninja is a great learner Sport bike. But its a very forgiving bike and can get you very used to its babying you. But riding an RC 390 on the other hand, as very aptly put by one of my friends who owns one, you will "see death every time I(you) sit on it brooo".

I feel the RC390 is the bike you want if you are prepping for a 675R. Remember - you are not looking for a long term bike. A beginners bike to introduce yourself into a Super Sport world. The Ninja charges quiet a premium for a short term learner's bike.

And also, think about how much you will actually use the Ninja after you get the 675R. The RC390 costs much lesser, is much easier to maintain and will give you more than satisfactory power.

Manoj... Before getting the bike, I suggest you go ahead and buy the best riding gear money can possibly buy... Perhaps MotoGP standard stuff.. Seriously. #highpossibilityofshithittingthefan#

I appreciate your opinion my friend. But my question is that " With a seat time of about 2.5k in different bikes (small capacity) ,will I be able to handle RC390 ". But sure you made a valid point from your view. I thought Ninja because as you said,It forgives. I don't even know that "Am i ready to ride a ninja". Let me test ride both, and i will post the opinion

A test ride is the best way to judge a bike. I have test ridden the RC390 and the Ninja one after the other. It is not that you can control the RC390. It has a very good power delivery compared to the Duke390. It's a lot more refined and because of its aggressively forward stance, most of your weight is in the front of the bike and that does wonders for you. You can really go all out on the RC because you can afford to make the mistakes. On the Ninja, you can't.

I was gonna put this up there, but since you have already said you will buy them before hand, I'm happy you think as such. Do buy every protective gear you can. You are learning and you can use everything that will save your skin. Especially if you can afford it, get a full body riding suit. Nothing like it in case of the Hashtag situation. You can carry over the suit to your Daytona too. Think long term here. Every penny saved is a penny more to spend later.
