  • The 1.3 lakh conundrum

    1. Budget : Lets say 100K
    2. Age: 24, but yet very mature guy, frown of show off
    3. Height: 5'11
    4. Weight: lets say 100 kg
    5. Intended usage: Basically my parents have been delaying buying me a bike for a long time, and if I get this job, then they have agreed to buy me a bike. I will live in a PG very near to my workplace, so not much commuting. Lets say weekend rides, and midnight blasts. But in the heart of hearts, I'm a tourer.
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement (approx., if any) Dont really care.
    7. City & Highway percentage usage Will be a very sparsely run bike, so I don't think it matters
    8. Approximate Daily / Monthly running Will be a very sparsely run bike, so I don't think it matters
    9. City / Town /Village of residence (so we can evaluate road conditions / traffic / terrain / altitude / OTR pricing) Qutub Institutional Area, Meharuli etc. Basically posh Delhi
    10. Brand / Bike type preference (if any) hmmmmm

    The contendors:

1: AS200. Is the seating position same as in NS200? Gone through the AS200 ownership thread 3 times, people complaining of weird ergonomics.Didn't have the time to read the NS200 thread. Also heard that the windscreen is useless.
2: Pulsar 220. Does it really do anything better than the AS200? People bought this over a 200NS because of the fact that this was a better tourer. Now with the AS200, has that card gone too?
3: Karizma R. Again all reviewers talk of weird ergos. They say that the seating position is genuinely weird. Legs back, like a sporty bike, but chest upright, like a commuter.
4: TVS Apache 180. Will height be an issue? Will vibes be an issue?

I buy a bike for riding, not to look cool. Looks are one of the things I least care about. I'm a rider, not a poser.

          As per your shortlist,

AS200- better suited for tall riders n that includes you. Take a test drive. Peppy engine, comfy ergonomics.
P220- tried and tested and dusted ( old in market n well established ) Safe bet.
Karizma R- If you can look past the design, pretty capable n reliable machine. Ergos are weird for short riders due to the rake n reach of handlebars. But for someone taller, it might be ok.
RTR 180- good fit n finish, vibey between 4500-5000rpm, but vibes are well controlled in newer models + you have the option of ABS. Better handling, peppy engine, safe bet. Tried, tested n dusted. Ergos for tall riders is a known suspect, test for yourself.

I made these suggestions because your budget came to 1 lakh.Gixxer and hornet makes a good amount of power and torque. By cool I meant the overall package.By looks all the three looks cool.no one is a poser here brother.I like a bike for what it is and not for the looks.

The gixxer is just a 155, which I do not think can do 600-700km/day.

The hornet is yet to launch.

How did you come to that conclusion?

There are people who did saddle-sore on 135cc engine. Was it Nin?

                Edit:

Gixxer and Cb 160 unicorn/hornet both have 14+ NM of torque.which is 3to4NM short of the bikes you have mentioned and than there is the bikes weight.many of the travelogue on xbhp have been done on bikes of 150cc and less.600-700 km/day is possible even on a 100cc.there are riders who have travelled quite long on their 100cc. I myself has done a round trip of 700 kms on discover 100 dtssi in a day.

If I may add my list of bikes

                        1. Avenger - If you like the cruiser styled bikes. Its a decent tourer, with an aftermarket windshied, you can go places.
                        2. 200NS - Really a good city commuter, a great tourer, Not so sporty position, its decent enough if not upright like a RE
                        3. RE350 - (If you can opt for finance for the rest of the amount) - Carburetted engine, Mileage of 40+ on highways (just fyi). Should not eat up much on maintenance as its devoid of those gimmicks on 500. Can do riding all day long at 80kmph from K2K.
                        R15S - Current
                        Honda Dio - Current
                        TNT 600i - Sold
                        Classic 500 - Sold
                        Pulsar 220 dtsi - Sold
                        Yamaha YBX125 - Sold

The difference between the torque of gixxer/unicorn and pulsar 200/220 divided by the torque of gixxer/unicorn.
