I recently joined xBHP (thanks to the moderators for approving my request) and I'm learning a lot about motorbikes from this forum. I hope, I'll start to contribute soon.
I was owning a Suzuki GS150R (2009 model) before and had to sell it after 5 years with a heavy heart, as I had to travel on a short term deputation.
It was such a wonderful bike and ticked all the right boxes for me. Its such a disappointment that the bike is discontinued owing to poor sales!
I'll back to Bangalore in another month and checking out the available options for a new/pre-worshiped bike.
Here are my considerations:
1) Budget: Around 1 Lakh (new or pre-worshiped).
2) Age: 33 years
3) Height: 5' 9"
4) Weight: 60 Kg
5) Intended Use: I'll be riding 150+ KM every weekend, and office commutes within the city on week days (20 KM up and down per day).
6) Fuel Efficiency: Around 40 KMPL.
7) City and Highway Use: 40(City):60 (Highways)
8) Approximate running per month: 800 - 1000 KM
9) City of Residence: Bangalore
10) Other preferences:
a) ABS is mandatory.
b) Simple construction and easy maintenance. This is to the extent that I prefer air cooled engines to oil/liquid cooled engines.
I'm not sure how technically good the service centers are.
c) Easy availability of spare parts.
d) Tubeless tires
e) Resale value is not a concern, as I'll be owning the bike for a long time.
Available options:
1) TVS APACHE RTR 180 ABS:
+ dual channel ABS
+Nimble handling and raw power
+Decent mileage for the power
+Good for in city rides and decent for weekend drives. I'll be spending > 60% of time on highways though.
+Good riding position for my height. I have ridden my friend's RTR 160 before.
+VFM pricing
-Vibrations. For all the above positives, I'm prepared to live with it. But not sure how much fatigue it'd cause on long highway rides.
-Light weight and could pose problems in highways due to cross winds.
2) TVS APACHE RTR 200 4V ABS:
+dual channel ABS
+Nimble handling and raw power, as per the reviews. I've not test driven it yet.
+Decent mileage for the power
+VFM pricing
+Read that there are no vibrations
-Not sure when ABS variant would be released and whether it'd be available in carbureted version. I don't prefer the FI variant for ease of maintenance.
-I've not test driven this bike and not sure how good it'd be on highways.
3) Used CBR 250R with ABS:
+Perfect tourer and decent for city rides as well
+Smooth and long lasting engine
+Good mileage and relatively cheap to maintain
- Finding the ABS version in used market is very tough.
-I'm not sure about how technically equipped the service people are to deal with this bike.
Right now, I'm considering the Apache RTR 180 ABS. Please let me know if I'm missing any key points or any other options.
Thanks for your time and response.

PS: I have a soft corner towards R15, though it not ABS equipped.

A Amarnath
