Re: Bike with a soul for less than 2.5 lakhs

Alright so this is damn frustrating, my mind and heart are having a go at each other and I am unable to focus much.

So please help me this final time, I live in the city and bike would be used only on the weekends, I earlier made a decision on the himalayan as it can be used on any road BUT my mind is like with your work schedule how many times would you go to ladakh or spiti and if need be you can always hire a bullet there.

Plus the himalayan has not really been a successful bike due to its low power. Request all of you to pitch in and suggest between the dominar and himalayan as I am just stuck with this. Thank you.

i have heared that bajaj would be raising prices after march for dominar 400, since they have started deleviry masterminds you can check the condition of bike, you would have also taken a test ride too.... out of both dominar 400 seems more promising to me than the RE Himalayan

Mate, you are asking some of the right questions. I've nothing against Himalayan/Dominar here but questioning the purpose they going to serve you. Leave alone Ladakh, even if you want to tour somewhere in Mumbai's vicinity, say Goa, you always have an option to rent bikes and go on. Also since you'll be travelling only on weekends and will be back for Monday's office duties, I'm assuming the distance will be somewhere around 200-300Kms so any 200CC - 250CC bike will do the job for you. Financially it makes sense only if you tour a lot on your own mobike. I would also suggest you to wait till Jan 24th as Yamaha is coming up with a new 250CC bike and see what it offers. I was hell bent on buying a Himalayan but then questions like these plus RE's reliability made me think again and I've dropped my plan. I choose my head over my heart and I'm not regretting it at all. So the choice is yours now.

Cheers!

I guess you haven't heard of the Activas and Splendors doing Ladakh and Leh. Search up on Google. The Dominar is the preferred choice for the 80% city riding. The Dominar can do Ladakh too.

Just think of this scenario : you buy a Himalayan, and then you see videos of guys doing the Leh Ladakh circuit on the Dominar with ease and some orchestra "aaa" "eee" music thrown in to drown the sound of dogs barking at them, and their own farts.

How would you feel then? I would feel quite silly. [emoji6]

No doubt Specs wise dominar is better, I wouldn't mind if they increase the price but the problem is which one is better in meeting my requirements. (seating comfort, handling bad roads)

Can we tour with pillion on the dominar, and On bad roads how is the suspension of the dominar ?

Thanks a ton for your assistance.

Thanks for the suggestion and what you say is true but need a comfortable bike for 2 which can handle bad roads hence was thinking of the himalayan but now dominar brings in good features at a great price and hence has got me thinking.

Btw yammy being yammy I don't think will be priced far lower than dominar/himalayan.

Thank you for pitching in, I have done leh on a cycle and hence know and seen that it can be done.

My concern is how is dominar for touring on weekends with pillion and will it be able to handle bad roads well.

I have ridden the dominar and love the beefy looks but they don't allow pillion along, where as RE allowed it and my better half was comfortable on the himalayan.

I haven't ridden one personally, but the guys in Xbhp and other sites are all praises for the pillion seat on the Dominar. One guy even mentioned that the Dominar rear seat was more spacious than the CBR 250's.

xBhp review should be out soon. They've received a test vehicle which they are using as of now.

Hello buddy,
I did a pillion ride on both the himalayan and dominar. Nothing can compare with the cushion in the himalayan. It's so cozy. Whereas dominar is good enough. I'm sure it wont give u a pain in the ass but the seat is quite narrower, compared to the rider seat. leech yes it is a bit wider and comfy than CBR250R's pillion.

Himalayan owner here pitching in my 2 cents.

Take the Himalayan if you want to battle bad roads both inside and outside the urban areas, much better comfort for the buttocks of the rider and the pillion, longer time period between consecutive services, rarely seen on the roads, officially available sports(offroad) exhaust that won't void warranty and unbeatable touring abilities due to the ability to carry jerry cans and luggage with the utmost ease. It is a bike that will go over any kind of terrain and is indeed one of kind currently in India, at the price bracket it sits in.
OR
Take the Dominar if you prefer a slightly faster bike, roadster like feel due to the riding posture, slipper clutch, digital gadgetry like FI, AHO, ABS and LED headlights. It is very capable bike that can tour with ease. Probably has less problems than a Royal Enfield throwing tantrums. Bajaj service centers and after sales has a better reputation than Royal Enfield, so I have heard/read. Its natural habitat is the thriving city where it will excel in bumper to bumper traffic and the occasional(or everyday) highway straights.

Cheers and regards.
Ride safe!
And then the lord said "Let there be Bike": And there was bike
And the lord saw the bike, and it was Goooood!

Nicely summed up mate. masterminds I've not TD'ed the Dominar yet but have ridden Himalayan with and without pillion for a decent distance. The ride quality is very plush in the Himalayan due to its suspension. I've cruised between 90-110kmph on the highways and taken it for some off-road duties too. It just swallows whatever the roads throw at it. There were no vibes till 110kmph which is very "uncharacteristic" of RE. So you can rest assured it's a very good and unique offering from RE.

I think your heart keeps beeping Himalayan So I will suggest you one exercise, if you haven't done it already. Join the Himalayan owner's page, a very active one, in FB and go through the issues that its owner face. If those scary stories make you think again, then don't proceed with Himalayan. Instead if your mind keeps telling that such problems can be dealt with and you are mentally prepared to face come what may, then boy you are in true love so just go ahead and grab her. You'll not regret the decision!

Cheers!
