  • Bike Around 1.5 Lakhs

Hi Guys..have been in the forum for quite a while...This is my first post...
Let me put my requirements in a shorter way
    1)I am 20, 6ft, 75kgs..
    2) Budget - Around 1.5L
    3) Beginner in riding bikes. This will be my first bike.
    4) Seating position must be upright. (No forward leaning position)
    5) Looking for lesser weighing bikes ( coz,i think handling will be easy in less weight bikes.. not sure though)
    6) Sometimes my Pillion will be mom.( She will be wearing saree and surely she can't sit on the back seats of those sporty bikes whose back seats are higher)
    .
    Bikes Considered:
1)Duke 200, FZ , Pulsar AS,Pulsar RS, Fazer,Gixxer( Neglected all these bikes due to the reason that my mom will not be comfortable with the pillion seat)
    2) Hornet ( Looks were not appealing)
    3) R15s - ( Heard that driving position is forward leaning)
    4) Apache - Too old bike
    .
Yeah...I know i have neglected almost all the bikes in that price range...this can clearly say my level of confusion...maybe i was wrong in any of the neglection...So guys plz help me in choosing the right bike...,!!
    .
    Thanks in advance..!!

Unfortunately most manufacturers make bikes, where it appears that they don't expect a rider to ever have a pillion! As you have correctly noticed, none of those bikes are good for a pillion. The FZ 25 seemed to have a reasonably comfortable pillion seat though. On the other hand the Unicorn has a comfortable pillion seat.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Do re look at the gixxer, it has a comfortable pillion sear.
Also it's not forward leaning as such.

R u sure that a middle-aged woman (40-50) will be okay with the height of the pillion seat?!

Yup. It's not that high. Do take her along for a test ride.

Or as monk has mentioned the unicorn is a safer option

Mate, there is no one bike for all needs. So it's going to be on what aspect are you going to compromise on? I know it's hard when it comes to choosing between looks and other aspects but there is no other go. I can vouch for Unicorn's back seat comfort as I take my dad(in his late 50s), my mom(in her early 50s), and occasionally my granny (in her late 70s) in my Unicorn. The just love the pillion comfort of the Unicorn. I stand 6"2 and weigh 78 kgs, and till date I haven't found a 150cc bike that's as comfortable as the Unicorn is. The seating is upright and the ride quality is top notch. So if you can compromise on looks, then Unicorn ticks all your other boxes. My two cents; You may also consider RE's Classic 350. I know it's heavy and you're a beginner but hey, it's just a matter of weeks before you get used to it. Also check out the new FZ25.

              Cheers!

I would like to recommend CB Unicorn 160 which also comes with CBS from Honda. Its in fairly low budget than yours. It would be good for your mom to as a pillion. It only weighs 136Kg with CBS. It should be a good first bike as it comes with refinement and reliability of Honda.

Other than that if you can go for Apache 180 ABS version which is also fine(not that old, it still competes with other new bikes in same segment). The vibration issue is quite overhyped. Its amazing bike overall. I am 5.11 and own one. I have done 1600 Kms ride in 3 days without any pain in shoulders or wrists.

                DO NOT GO FOR KTM'S
Its a really powerful engine and i have seen many newbies unable to handle the power and ending up in hospitals.

Other options i would lean on to will be
                > Gixxer 150
                > FZ
                > New FZ 25 which is decent for your budget.

I would not suggest gixxer at all for pillion comfort(Owning one), its been just a month and have been getting complain on the pillion seat.
Currently the best you can get according to your needs is FZ25, seems to have decent pillion comfort. Wait for some time for the reviews to crop up and decide.

I took a test ride on hornet. Although it offers a single seat, It's pillion seat height is a bit high. May cause problems for seniors to climb and descend, in my opinion. Plus the weight is around 145kg. And overall, I did not find it powerful in terms of pickup and all; but it can be probably because I currently ride a 200NS.

Why don't you check Bajaj Avenger street version? It is pretty low in height, comfortable cruiser without aggressive stance riding and has lower heighted seating. Thought it has 150kgs kerb weight, you won't feel that much while riding it.

Don't like that type of cruiser vehicles(avenger,re thunderbird)😐
                        .
The problem is my age 😂
My mind wants a utility bike..my heart wants a stylish bike..
                        .
When i started looking for bikes, the first showroom i went was KTM..
Still in love with Duke 200...Juz bcoz it's very close to my heart, my mind starts comparing all the other bikes with duke 😂😂
                        .
And I don't always ride with a pillion...but sometimes i want to ride with my mom( say once a month) and for very short distance only..so pillion comfort is not my extreme requirement but somewhat important...
                        .
What about R15S...is the riding position that much bad (aggressive) and what about pillion seat..?! (Local delaer doesn't have R15s in stock that y i can't check)

Apache 200 is new though. And mom won't be comfortable on sitting on any bikes with split seats 😂 so i would suggest take your mom along and ask her where she feels the most comfortable, my mom can't even sit on access for long 😂🤐
Other suggestions avenger will be the most comfortable for pillion as per my experience as it has low seat height and a back rest.

Either way, Even if it is somewhat important, you will require to pick a medium high seating bike. Otherwise it will be difficult for pillion riders. My parents do not ride pillion on my NS because of seat height. Whenever the need arises I take them on my old yamaha libero which has comfortable seating. That is the only way to have a utility yet stylish bike.. Haha!!

Jokes apart, you can go for fz25 like monk said, or hornet/Avengers.

If I am not wrong, all R15's have pretty aggressive stance. Plus they are much faired. If you will compare that to Duke(Your fav ), then you will find it quite big and bulky.

On a different note: (to make your selection tougher ) I have rode duke 200 too, it is very powerful and feels very light. And as my taste is to go for naked bikes, I liked it very much. Infact, more than my NS.
