  • Looking for a bike under 4 lacs

    Hi Team,

Looking for a new bike under 4lacs, currently owning a ZMR2014 model. As of now no complaints from bike but looking for a better option with ABS, better comfort and handling, long term usage for 3years at-least and good riding position seat because I am 6'1 tall so don't want any back pain issue as I use to commute 60km / day out of which 50km is highway running. Not considering Bajaj, Hero, Royal enfield or KTM products. Bajaj engines are not being good as compared to Hero, RE cost to ownership is quite high and KTM is less comfortable because of seating position and specially pillion seat as well small fuel tank capacity.

I have 22 working days in a month so maximum fuel tank capacity would be the first priority, secondly riding comfort and ABS as well. I have shortlisted options like TVS Akula, Banelli Tornado (both upcoming), Hyosung gt250R or CBR 250 (BS 4 models upcoming) and would really go for a fully fared bike. Ninja doesn't have ABS so not considering the same on that price, Z250 would be a better option if I have to go for a naked bike. Am living in Greater noida and use to commute on Expressway so please suggest the best option for me as I am planning to buy within 2 months of duration

IMO CBR fits your requirement based on current and near future market. Yamaha / Suzuki has not yet came up with their ABS models otherwise there could have been some choices. Though you want a faired bike I would suggest you to gather some info about RTR 2004V as that has ABS. Apart from these two I cannot think about any bikes which comes with ABS ruling out your brands.

So from what you have mentioned heres a summary of what you want from your bike:

        1. ABS
        2. Comfort (Comfortable seats + Comfortable riding posture)
        3. Good handling
        4. Low maintenance cost
        5. 60kms total distance
        6. Majority of the distance is Freeway riding
        7. Maximum fuel capacity ( I am assuming you want either a Larger tank or Good Fuel Mileage or Both)
        8. You like faired motorcycles

Now let me start off by saying, the 2nd point contradicts the 8th point. All the faired motorcycles you mentioned have forward leaning posture.

Akula and Tornado are out of question and nobody can give you any feedback regarding those 2 bikes simply because its not in the market.

Hyosung is just not reliable enough to warrant any consideration, but if you want to give it some love, by all means go ahead.

For the kind of riding you do (freeway + 30kms up + 30kms down) I would prefer a bike like the upcoming Fazer25. Its basically a Naked bike meaning upright posture. The added fairing and large size windshield means it will be cutting through wind on your daily freeway commute. Since its basically a naked bike it will perform just as well in the City too. It doesnt have ABS, but thats quite alright.

The Z250 doesnt have ABS either.

From your list, if I had to recommend anything, I would say teh CBR 250. Its a tried and tested bike. Its been rock solid for years. But because they are not bringing in the refreshed model, I am against Honda in this regard.

Anyways. Wish you all the best.

Dude gt250r is not even worth considering if you are commuting for 60kms.. It has the worst riding angle.. Wait for the akula or cbr 250 according to your shortlist..

What i would suggest is if you are prioritising a faired motorbike.. Then go for the upcoming r3.. It has excellent handing and riding posture..

And if can compromise on the fairing then do get a test drive of upcoming g310r..

          All the best

Ninja 650 (used if you can compromise on ABS)
New ER6N (z650 ?) if you can compromise on fairing
New Ninja 650 (if you can save some more)

Re: Looking for a bike under 4 lacs

                Well,

As I am planning to invest for about 4lacs, I won't be able to compromise with ABS. As of now responses received from the members, only CBR 250 is the best option I am targeting unless the new model (BS 4) is launched in the market. Let me know if any upcoming model(s) are coming within the quarter month duration. A 250 to 300CC machine is expected to give an output of 30kmpl but fuel tank capacity should be on a higher note.

Planning is still on and hope to get the best views and outputs from all of you, thanks for your support and keep sharing your views unless the best machine is in my hands

Re: Looking for a bike under 4 lacs

Have you checked out the Z650? It is just slightly above your budget. but, It ticks all the right boxes and has an engine that will blow you away with its reliability. It returns a good 25kmpl and has amazing build quality too. I feel if you are spending that much, you should not be looking at dated 250s. It is a new bike too and is not set for any upgrades for atleast a couple of years.

And Please stay away from Hyosungs if you cant troubleshoot your bike. They are good bikes and have good engines too. However, the service backup is pathetic. If you can maintain the bike yourself then you can easily get a great Hyosung 650R for less than 2.5L and they are really bang for buck in used bike market right now.

If you can wait just go for CBR 250RR, which will be launching in India soon

Sorry it won't be launching in India as of now but it is patented, so it can imported and used, may be later Honda might change their mind about launching in India because they have patented the product.

Which means we are not sure! I don't think the Thread Starter would want to wait for a product that is not even sure of being launched!

If he doesn't mind about the budget, he could import the bike without any hassle. Or if budget is the constrain he could go with any other vehicle. By the way if a vehicle is patented it will be available in India and can be purchased and used👍

Yes, you are absolutely right. But is it worth all that hassle? I mean, when we already have good bikes being sold in India! Ninja 300, Yamaha R3 (currently discontinued), Duke 390, RC 390, Beneli TNT 300, maybe used Ninja 650, or any other old imports!!

Soon to come RTR300 sounds promising as well!
