Re: Which bike?
This was exactly what I was looking for regarding the Dominar. The right question & a very honest Answer.I felt the same about the gear shifting in moderate to heavy traffic @aashray & I had the same concern as prashnagopal.I guess the more we ride Dominar the more we will understand the gear ratios & will adjust our riding style accordingly.Originally posted by aashray223 View Posthello
to begin with dominar is an exteremely well balanced bike, it handles very good in city as well, weight wont be a problem at all once you are on the go. the clutch is very light compared to other bikes on this segment so that will save you from the pain caused in fingers and wrist due to continuous operation of clutch and frequent gear shift in traffic. Also, the heat management system is excellent the engine doesnt heat up that much in worse traffic conditions, even if it does you wont feel the heat at all around your legs so that is a very big plus.however, there are few cons like gear ratios are not meant for traffic riding so frequent gearshifts will be bit tiresome, taking a U turn with narrow room would be difficult considering the weight of the bike and large turn radius and drop in mileage to around 25 - 27 kmpl. overall it is very great bike and since you mentioned that traffic you would be facing wouldn't be bumper to bumper, there should be no issues at all. its a very great bike. you will enjoy everybit of it.
i hope this reply helps you with your confusion.
PS. i too ride in moderate traffic conditions most of the time. :P

Re: Which bike?
From RE to Dominar. The sales man told me that many people are switching over from RE to The Dom.I didn't believe him but I guess he was not just try to sell me one of his marketing techniques. What took you over to Dominar from the Legend Called Royal Enfield?Originally posted by aashray223 View PostVery true, you will adjust to the style. same happened with me i got hang of it. i had switched over from RE continental GT to dominar, so was a very differnt experience for me initially.

Re: Which bike?
i personally found REs to be extremely unreliable they tend to break down in the middle of the road with no prior signs of malfunction. if you are technically expert you may find that the engineering used on RE machines is very Old school( for eg. use of Push rod instead of cam shaft in engine) , it is my personal point of view that i prefer modern technology and engineering on my bike rather than the old world charm. yet again, it is a matter of perspective and it is decision of heart than brain if you buy RE. its just an emotional thing i believe.Originally posted by jayantjha View PostFrom RE to Dominar. The sales man told me that many people are switching over from RE to The Dom.I didn't believe him but I guess he was not just try to sell me one of his marketing techniques. What took you over to Dominar from the Legend Called Royal Enfield?
also i would recommend to all RE buyers to check the after sales service of dealership because they are a hit or a miss, and if it isnt upto the mark you will find yourself in trouble since RE machines need very special care and maintenance. also i had continental GT which is a pain to ride in traffic, with leaned posture and heavy clutch and extreme engine heating. i wasn't happy with my choice. so switched over to dominar and i think buying dominar was the best decision of my life at least i got what i wanted in my bike.

Re: Which bike?
From a commute stand point only.Originally posted by jayantjha View PostUpdate
FZ25 Will be an easy to ride bike in city & can do a decent job on the highway.
Dominar will keep me busy in city but that extra power is definitely something that will make me happy on the highway.
As far as maintenance is concerned,I believe that both these machines will be more or less the same.
Mileage is better on FZ.
Both these bikes come in my budget range.
I own a Bajaj as of now & about the service, availability of parts & cost of maintenance,I must say that Bajaj have kept me happy always.
Suggestions please.Would it be a huge compromise on power if I buy FZ which stands cheaper than Dominar by 30k+.Would Yamaha keep me happy like Bajaj have done in the last 10yrs.Anything that I should know about Yamaha, service, spare parts or anything else?
I own a FZ25, its been nearly 3 month almost 2K - everything done in city. The bike is smooth and sturdy when you want to do 35-40 in traffic or when you zip at 80 in no traffic both are feasible and done with ease. The brakes are fine if you are till 80 missing abs doesn't seem to affect, since I am only commuting. As far as FE I get a decent 38KMPL even though it shows 40KMPL. Maintenance cycle is 5K once. No nonsense reliable machine with Yamaha guarantee.
HL in pitch black roads is the only con.

Re: Which bike?
Fair enough.RE's have their own cult following. It does have a presence on road but as it is the technology is way too old.Originally posted by aashray223 View Posti personally found REs to be extremely unreliable they tend to break down in the middle of the road with no prior signs of malfunction. if you are technically expert you may find that the engineering used on RE machines is very Old school( for eg. use of Push rod instead of cam shaft in engine) , it is my personal point of view that i prefer modern technology and engineering on my bike rather than the old world charm. yet again, it is a matter of perspective and it is decision of heart than brain if you buy RE. its just an emotional thing i believe.

Re: Which bike?
Felt the same when I took a test drive of the bike.I loved the bike.Didn't feel that ABS was absolutely necessary but having one would have definitely benefitted the bike as it is capable of going much above 100kmph which people would want to go on roads fit enough for that.HL's are ok in city but not so in pitch black roads as you said.Originally posted by MC_AngryBoy View PostFrom a commute stand point only.

So as per your reply,I need not worry about Yamaha service. That levels up one more thing on my list.
I am still oscillating on my decision & I will be deciding on which one to buy in the next couple of days.Should make a booking on Monday.

Re: Which bike?
It was a tough fight between FZ 25 & Dominar.I was a little confused because both the bikes were ticking almost all the boxes in my list but the Extra power & ABS in the Dominar was the reason why I went for it.I am hoping to cover more distances with it & also hoping that I will be able to love the Dominar as much as I have loved my Pulsar 180 dtsi.

Re: Which bike?
Great! IMHO, though FZ 25 is a god bike, it lacks WOW factor - seem many people opting for fully loaded Dominar instead. More power, ABS, 6th gear and better chassis seem to be making decision easier.
Congrats on your new white Dominar - post pics soon!
