  • Upgrade for comfort from 150cc

    Hi Forum,

I am in the market looking for a upgrade from my very loyal 2006 make Unicorn. Primary need is a balanced bike for both city and highway commute with no compromise on safety and comfort. For easier visualization, find below the breakup of KM driven,

    1. Monday to Friday - Solo
    City ride - 15KM
    Highway ride - 25KM
    Highway + City ride - 30KM

    2. Weekends - Around 25+ KM with pillion

    Bikes in consideration are,

TB350 - Liked by family and i personally love the comfort. But very hesitant to pick it up due to quality/service issues read online
Dominar 400 - Liked by family, but a pucca sport bike with that racy torque. Pillion is a strict no-no (personal experience)
FZ25 - Liked by family, but after TD Dominar didnt find the josh in it. Moreover, lack of ABS is something withholding my decision.

Need your suggestion/recommendation from any of the above or some other bike which satisfies my need, which primarily is comfort.

    Thanks in advance.

The BSIV Enfield engines seems to be performing well, Two of my friends own TB350 one being BSIII and another one a BSIV engine(Both running good but the thump is missing in BSIV), Quality wise there is nothing to say bad about enfield, It the service guys that screw up the bike, If you can find a good mechanic then it will last decades.

For Dominor, yes it pulls you hard and not suitable for a family ride, But you can just give a try. FZ25 is also a great bike as per the user reviews, Trust me ABS is not a big deal if you are a experienced rider and for Chennai roads it is of no use and you don't have to rely on it. Give UM Motors a try. Test drive every leading motorcycle that runs on road now and decide.

All the best for your bike, Ride hard, Ride safe

This is a motivation. I have always longed to own a TB350 and will definitely give it a TD esp. the BSIV version.

This is still the complete package for a bike as per online read and would love to buy it. Will second a thought with my better half/son.

Looking for a ABS equipped bike just to be future proof. All my accidents with the bike are my mistakes of negligence. Need to control my wrist spin a lot.

Was looking at other ownership reviews and pretty much interested on the TNT 25 and 300 (Out of my budget though). Will these be a comparo with above list?

TNT's are performance based motorcycle, if you can lift up your budget more, then you can give it a try as it comes roughly above 2L.
TNT 25 is a single cylinder motorcycle and lacks in ABS, TNT 300 has 2 cylinder and ABS option

Also in that budget you can try a used 2 cylinder motorcycle like ninja or R3. If you are in long touring then 2 cylinders are bliss, Those moves you like anything.

As per my requirement, long drives are always planned in my City. Bike is for city/highway commute alone.

Then try getting a used Ninja 300 or R3. You will not regret it.

Ninja - He will regret unless he is ready to shell out a lot of money!! Very costly to maintain! High cost spare parts and lack of service centres are a huge let down! The disc pads which used to cost 2.5k are now 3.5k after the split up from Bajaj!!

R3 would be a better deal but then nothing available for less than 2.5L! Again, condition of the bike might not be the best

Since abs is the major concern here! The TS has very little Option available with the limited budget! Dominar is the only bike with abs and costs nominal! The next bike would be Duke 390 which is again out of reach!!

TBS350!! Well!! I wouldn’t recommend it just yet!! It is at the end RE!

                  Fazer/FZ25 is a nice bike!!

                    Fazer/FZ25 is a nice bike!!
Dominar - Still reluctant to have my better half as a pillion. But this is sure in my goto list due to overall good package motorcycle.

TB350 - Still on my goto list. Expecting a TD this weekend, hopefully shouldnt see a difference on BSIV versions. Is there any?

Fazer - Too much of fairing, dont like it.

FZ25 - 2 things of a concern, 1. Seat comfort 2. Lack of ABS. If the next version (if at all planned) has this corrected/added, will get it for sure.

I like the Gixxer SF, how is its comfort and overall performance? Will this fit my bill??

Note: I will stick to the budget of < 2L for better, reasonable suggestions.

I think you are putting too much stress on ABS. None of my machines have ABS and I have never felt a real urgent need for it. Its a very good feature, however its absence should not deter you from buying a bike.

Still a better machine then the rest in your list.

TB350 - Still on my goto list. Expecting a TD this weekend, hopefully shouldnt see a difference on BSIV versions. Is there any?
There is no visible change in BSIV versions, Yes the thump is missing.

Fazer - Too much of fairing, dont like it.
Yes some people will not like the fairing as it looks like optimus prime, But there are fans for Fazer 250.

FZ25 - 2 things of a concern, 1. Seat comfort 2. Lack of ABS. If the next version (if at all planned) has this corrected/added, will get it for sure.
As mentioned earlier ABS is not a big deal, And the seat comfort is also fine with FZ25.

I like the Gixxer SF, how is its comfort and overall performance? Will this fit my bill??
Gixxer is a great machine in its segment, But again you will be sticking in 150cc.

GIXXER is a beautiful machine, for city riding it has everything you're going to need, now comes with Fi & ABS too, low cost maintainance, but the engine is 155 cc. If you want a bigger machine then you've to look somewhere else.

Just a small thought- a gel seat is always available for the comfort on any bike.
Regarding Gixxer/SF, it won't be much of an upgrade. And, comfort-wise, it isn't the right option to look at.
I would suggest Fazer 25 but it looks like a RayZR on steroids. Not the most beautiful machine in the market.
CBR250R is comfortable, but if you can wait, I'll suggest the upcoming models.
                            :D

Very good point! There is no point in stressing out on ABS! Especially when the options are very Little in the market! You like a bike? Go buy it! No ABS but you like the bike! Go buy it! I wont let that stop me from buying a bike i love!
