Best bike within than 3lakhs for city and sometimes highways
As of now, I'm riding Yamaha Gladiator everyday to commute. It has been 10 years. I want to upgrade. I am looking for a reliable and powerful bike. I took a test-ride of Duke 390 2017 and I loved it. Could not explore much as the ride was short. Is anyone riding Duke 390 in Bangalore traffic? Mileage is not a concern. Can the heat be tolerated in traffic? What if it gets overheated?

Query Approved
Yes the bike heats up, no it isn't a big deal if you are used to it!Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!
Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Yes, it heats up pretty much. Specially in summers, I feel my legs are getting waxed. But once you are used to it its fine with me. I am used to hear fan sound also which was annoying in the beginning. No overheating issue until you have the fan running in any temp, I rode her like in 50C temp of Delhi. You start the bike and hit the next red light after 100 meters and fan is up until you switch off the engine, that summer.Originally posted by Anoop H.N View PostAs of now, I'm riding Yamaha Gladiator everyday to commute. Yes, you can ride in the traffic, I think Delhi & Bangalore traffic is pretty much worse in similar way so I can comment on that. Yes, that much power for the daily commute is not required but these are personal choices. The new Duke manages the heat more actively and and its more smooth so I dont think there would be any issue.
And the highways would be heaven for you

Can Duke 390 2017/18 be used to commute in Bangalore traffic?
Hi thanks for the reply! [emoji106] I get empty streets(residential area) on my way. But I get 15 mins of slow moving traffic with signals. I wear shoes and jeans pant. Would I still feel the heat? Total distance would be 30+ km to and fro.Originally posted by itsmevini123 View PostYes, it heats up pretty much. Specially in summers, I feel my legs are getting waxed. I would take it on Bangalore to Mysore highway as well occasionally. What if I turn off the engine at signals? Would it not cool down?Last edited by Anoop H.N; 11-20-2017, 09:08 PM.

15 min is manageable. But if it's primarily commuting through rush hour stop-and-go traffic i would not recommend the 390. Sure you will be fine for a week or a month (honeymoon period), but eventually the tedium/stress will get you. The problem IMO is twofold: heat (both for the engine and you) and the jerky throttle response below 4k (maybe not an issue with 2017 Duke 390?). Having said that i commute daily 45min to & fro on my RC390 but that's only because i have flexible timings and can avoid rush hour traffic.Originally posted by Anoop H.N View PostHi thanks for the reply! 15 min for me is fine, but there are personal choices. With Duke you are sitting relaxed and new duke is less jerky at below RPMs so doing long hours would not be an issue.Originally posted by Anoop H.N View PostHi thanks for the reply! Even with the boots and jeans you are going to feel the heat for sure but it decreases due to the material / thickness of cloth.
You should not switch off the engine on signals, because you have only 1-2 minutes during red lights which never cool down the RC/Duke engines by its own. Dont shut down
the engine to cool down until you have some 15-20 min. Once RC / Duke engines are heated only its fan can keep it to operating temp or you need 15-20 minutes to cool it down in our average 30-35 C day temperature.KTM RC390 - Current

Re: Can Duke 390 2017/18 be used to commute in Bangalore traffic?
As of now my commute doesn't have too much traffic jams. But can't say anything about the future. Would it be a wrong decision if I go for Duke 390? Or should I go for Yamaha fz250? I took test ride but couldn't explore much about the bike.

If you are willing to settle for less power, Duke 200 (not 250) is also a good option. It has none of the aforementioned drawbacks and personally I really like that engine: smooth, high reving with a wide powerband. It has one significant drawback however, the short gearing makes it unsuitable for 100+ highway cruising.Last edited by incipient; 11-22-2017, 12:46 PM.

Test ride some other bikes like the abs 250r by Honda and also another good contender in these high cc bikes is the mojo I road the mojo I found it fun and a bit heavy
Well again I’m from Mumbai and about Bangalore traffic I can’t comment but one thing I can say is that the 390 does have heating issues

Re: Can Duke 390 2017/18 be used to commute in Bangalore traffic?
Hey, I was also recently considering the 2017 Duke 390 for my Office commute of around 40kms. Once you ride the bike through traffic, not sure you’ll like it as much. It hates being ridden slow and even with ride by wire, power delivery is not smooth at lower revs. Also there’s almost no torque below 4k which would make slow moving/ bumper to bumper traffic a chore. Just my 2 cents.
