  • Mahindra Mojo or CBR 250r: As a tourer ??

    Hi Folks,

Am looking for a bike upgrade, with touring in mind. I have narrowed it to Mahindra Mojo and CBR250r.
While Mojo ticks all my boxes (loved the ride!!), the after-sales is a worry for me, as Mahindra has been struggling in 2-wheeler segment.
On the other hand: Is CBR's seating too aggressive for long distance ?

P.S.: Did consider Dominar as first choice. But alas, didn't get the feel, the vibrations were deal breaker .

    Thanks!

    Topic Approved.

From what I remember of my little ride with the CBR, its much smoother than almost any Bajaj/ KTM bike you compare with... And its seat and seating position is better too, comfort wise.

Sure, its slightly sporty seating, like FZ, Duke, etc. so its comfortable enough for long rides for most bikers...
Unless you like front-set footpegs and high-handlebar combo like the Unicorn (first model) or Royal Enfield, you're going to be ok on the CBR...

Although, like you, even I can't predict the future of Mahindra 2 wheelers, but they're a big group which is into a lot of products like tractors, SUV's, cars, etc. so its unlikely you'll be left in the dust.
Yes, their commuter bike lineup is gone, but you're getting their flagship.

    Make a good call then.

I would suggest the CBR, as I have one for the past 6 years. It's a pretty simple bike, only a few things could go wrong with it, one is the CCT, and the other is the shims. CCT gets replaced under warranty if it fails early, it's a 10 minute job. Costs less than ₹700 to replace.

The shims, some owners have the shim noise at 15,000 Kms, some at 50,000 Kms. It will cost you less than ₹5k to fix this, and it's not a problem that will leave you stranded. You'll need an experienced mechanic to fix this, so check in your area of you have a good service centre nearby. Get the opinion of CBR owners in your city.

As for the Mahindra mojo, they coolly shut down their two wheeler division, due to low sales. Now, Mahindra makes a lot of vehicles, but unfortunately Scorpio parts don't fit the Mojo so if they do stop the Mojo one day, you'll have problems. Also the service network isnt great at all. I would avoid it, unless you really *really* want one. For me, I'll take the CBR, thanks. Check out used ones on OLX too.

        Thanks for a detailed reply....
With mojo that's my concern..... Company packing up and saying goodbye!!

Regarding Cbr .... How was your experience on bad roads..?? As while touring, a long stretch of bad road is inevitable. How do suspensions behave, too much strain/pain on wrists and shoulders??

Flagship or not I guess company won't stand around if sales are not up to the mark.... It's sad as the bike is a capable one!!!
I guess, need to probe my willingness to take that risk !!

Well, I've had to ride on rough and no roads for an hour on my last ride. The alloys are tough, as long as your tyres are properly inflated, and you stand up on the foot pegs slightly, it doesn't matter. The key to riding the CBR without wrist pain is to hold the handlebar lightly, don't put your body weight on the bars. Don't push against the bar, try to pull the bars towards you by bending your elbows a bit more. This way, riding 1000-1600 Kms in 24 hours can be done without aches and pains.

I ride my CBR rough on bad roads, and after 50k Kms, the rear shock has lost softness. Taking unmarked speedbreakers at 50-60 kmph does that. The CBR is one bike which can take a beating from rough roads, however, highways is where you will love it best. Smooth bike even at 150 kmph.

Given a choice, I'd skip both and get either an RR310 or a D390 (in that order), but your money, your choice.

Do the 2017 D390's have any broken alloys stories?

yeah cbr's alloys are soo strong. i went to a pothhole few days back . the speed was nearly 70. the pothhole was pretty large, my rims got bent a little bit. but there is no air leak such as

rear shock for 50k with bad roads once a while is enough life.. costs just 1800 bucks.. replace it.

I felt the 310RR a little too sporty for touring! And not sure how good it will fair in rough roads! The USD forks again could go bad and the rider could possibly get stranded! As the fork oil leak could be a killer! Not that it will easily die off, but then. You will never know. While on a standard fork, one can still

I'm also in the same boat. I currently own an r15 and have been happy with it for the last 3 years. I recently had a 2000km trip and I completed the trip with a lot of shoulder, wrist pains. I'm planning to upgrade to a tourer and my choice are the same as yours. My problem with the cbr is its outdated. It's a fantastic bike but I'm just afraid that they'll update the model once I buy it ( I know it's unlikely). Is there anything else under the 2.5l budget that we can consider?

                          CBR 250. Best. Period.

I can give pages and pages of explanation but end of the day, refinement, handling dynamics, and weight all play a game and CBR is better.

                          P.S: I own a Dominar 2018 variant.

Why does everyone call it outdated ? Comparing it with the other 250's what important feature does it lack to call it outdated?

I guess people want fancy terminology like slipper clutch, inverted suspension, Bluetooth display etc. If that is what they want one wants then buy the Duke 390. Totally worth the price. Many people use it as a tourer too although it's not one.

However a real tourer doesn't need all that. Even I didn't buy a Dominar seeing all that. All I wanted was a relaxed ride. I feel CBR is worth it even to this day and as for shoulder pain, I wonder why he never thought of buying a handle bar raiser. Costs just ₹1k but totally worth for relaxed touring.
