Even with servicing the FE on 350 is terrible and about 28 to 30kmpl, even 32kmpl on highway. A close friend of mine owns the 500 (Non-ABS). He gets about 15.2 to 17kmpl on highway riding and commutes daily to & fro for about 20kms everyday. FE is a big let down and while the bike is stable and eye-catchy (not to mention being smitten by the RE bug), it's not an economical choice.

On the other hand, Dominar 400 has each feature RE 500 offers and is economical at the same time. Careful highway riding will return you about 38kmpl on a good day. It has a higher tank range and really smooth for Cruising. After riding about 180kms on, I must say that the power delivery on Dominar is way better than RE 500 across the rev range, any day. It's less heavier than RE 500, make it easier to maneuver it in some tricky places.
Thanks for your comment! I see you own a Honda. Have you ever ridden the CBR 250? Any comments on that?

Yes, both the 150R and 250R. The 250 on just a single ride around the NH on my way to college. I like the VFR1200 design TBH. It makes the bike much stable, even on windy roads. I'm not much for a performance ride, but I rode it within 80 to 85km/hr. Design wise, the tail light is plain and the mirrors take some time to get used to (but are more practical then R15 or Gixxer). Poor bottom range torque but the mid-range and top end is where it shines TBH. Engine responds well to even the smallest twist of throttle. FI makes the throttle response more uniform and refinement is typical Honda. Also, the riding dynamics are relaxed and not fully sporty. The handlebar is positioned not too low (like P220 and R15) which save you from the back pains. Tyre size is 110 (front) and 140 (rear) I think. Both Zappers (not sure what new models have). Weight distribution is really good throughout. Will suit a middle weight to heavy rider (70kgs+ in weight). I weigh about 60kgs. The bike is heavier when compared to my Unicorn (165kgs). And then there's Combined ABS. Back then I didn't understand much of ABS but the bite from the brakes are really nice and stable even when applying sudden brakes. I never went to 6th gear (forgot that it exists, due to lack of experience) and not a huge fan of the instrument console. It was just a short 7km ride.

It's same case here. No test ride units. Only display models.

Why don't you register online on Honda site and book a test ride from there.

Thanks for the advice. I have booked rides at 3 dealers, lets wait and see how and WHEN they respond.

I called these 3 dealers individually again, today. Its the same outrageous reply. "Book your vehicle, we'll order one" . I said if I don't like it after the test ride, can I get my booking amount back?" He had the audacity to say that if you don't want to buy it, why are you booking it then. Very cheeky and cocky sales rep, I must say.

Another one told me to check the specs on the website and see youtube videos. I said look, I wouldn't buy a laptop without a hands on, and you're asking me to throw away almost 2.3 lacs without even seeing one in real? Dumb, sheer arrogance.

I've lodged a customer query and complaint on the helpline, and also sent my disappointment on their email ID too.

The regional office is not picking up the phone.

Honda Delhi is the worst, period

It's a shame considering that Honda is in Manesar itself.

What I can't comprehend is why they wouldn't entertain a potential customer, especially for a bigger bike... surely the commission on a CBR would be higher than that of Shine, no? Or is it just because of a collective lazy effort.. I don't know.

Here I am , just waiting to see a CBR in real, look at it, test ride it, and I'm 90% sure I would buy it cash down immediately if I get a good 'feel'.. honestly, I have read the reviews, I've read fellow XBHPians' reviews and comments, and I'm in CBR's favor without even seeing it.

But just to be double sure, I thought I would go look at one. But its a shame like you said.

If I rule out the CBR, I'll probably be looking at RE, Dominar(maybe).. and KTM perhaps? I don't know .... back to the drawing board

Another way for getting a test ride, go to CBR ownership thread and maybe you'll find someone from Delhi/NCR who you can visit and get a feeling of the bike. All ownership threads have a dedicated WhatsApp group, so if someone sends you a link, you can meet up with someone from the group to test ride.

My cousin had a CBR 250 R, he is a touring enthusiast, atleast one annual trip to Leh Ladakh and then some atleast 500 kms trip every month. He has always shared good words for CBR. I personally have ridden it many times, it's a wonderful bike. I hope you get to test ride it soon.

I have 2008 P220. Anything would be an upgrade

Update : Had a heated conversation with Absolute Honda, one of the dealers. Apparently my complaint has been pin pointed to just one dealer ( I quoted that dealer's 'test ride only on booking' comment). The agenda has now become that just one dealer has refused to provide a bike for TD.
I'm officially done with Honda now. Will be looking at other options. Any good sports tourer/ tourer if I spend around 3 lakhs maybe?

Well for that kinda budget there are other options but I'd still say try to get a test ride from aforementioned method. It's a good bike.

Perhaps you'd like to try TVS Apache 310R & KTM RC 390?

I would suggest go and take a test ride of Himalayan as well.. bs4 abs version is something which is pretty stable.. check that out
