  • Should I sell my Pulsar 150 for a used 2006 Karizma

    Hello people,

I am in a great dilemma.... Let me give you some background about my state of dilemma
I bought a Pulsar 150 cc UG III on 16th February,2007. The moments of getting a new bike from my own hard earned money is still fresh in my mind...I enjoyed every moment on the bike till it started giving me troubles... I dun know if its my fate or my improper way of riding, my bike started giving me lot of troubles.... As of today I have clocked 38k kms on the bike and I have a list of do's on the bike.
    1. I have to get the block piston. oil rings and valves changed cuz the bike is drinking oil....
2.Have to get the front and rear tires changed (probably) cuz its been 38k kms and I havent changed them once.
3.Have to get the cone set replaced, fork thru and a new handle bar.
4.Might have to get the chain sprocket set changed too cuz there is a lot of noise from the chain and I have inspected the chain but it doesnt seem to be loose.
With all this work, I am assuming the xepenses to be 7-10k
However I saw a second hand Karizma at a bike dealer which is a July 2006 Karizma and has clocked 21k on the odo (I doubt cuz they can reset it too) The rear tire looks hardly 3-5 k kms old.
He quoted me 43k and said that If I give my Pulsar, I will have to pay 11 k more and take away the Karizma.....

Now I have some questions :
    1. Is it worth the deal or sounds expensive ?
2.I always wanted a Karizma and this time my parents have also agreed to it, I was thinking I will be spending 7-10 k on my 150 if I have to fix it, rather I ll spend that money and take that Karizma... Could someone please advise ?
    3. I am a little concerned about mileage... Will I get average between 30-35 ?? My friends have been getting 22 and 22 which is a nightmare for me at the momet atleast.
4.Should I actually buy this Karizma or should I get my bike back to her beauty ?
5.Is there any difference between Karizma and Karizma R in terms of average ? My friend told me that Karizma R gives average of 35-40 but Karizma gives nothing more than 30 kmpl
Guys please please please please advise .....

I think you can go for it, provided the ZMA has really done only 21K kms.Get it checked by a knowledgeable mechanic, preferrably a HH one.
Also, ZMA in good condition&riding should definitely give you 30-35kmpl at the least.

If at all you want to go for a bike...

than better buy a new one, rather than a second hand one.....!

Who knows, the exact internals of the bike....
and if its ur bad luck you might end up paying and paying and paying....!

Moreover, mileage of karizma is around 30+
If you get more than 35....its ur good luck...

Don go for an used bike, unless u know the seller. U dont know what times the bike would have seen.
When everything comes ur way, u r in the wrong way ;)

I dun have the finances available to buy a new bike....

I showed the bike to one of my mech, he said that the bike looks good except for the cables as he said that they are not that bad but might have to get it changed...Wont be more than a 1000 bucks.

Even if its a second hand bike which is almost 3 years old now ??

Whatever mate, u never know how the run-in was done, were the services done on time, etc.

If u are inclined towards it, check if the original manual is available . See if all services are completed in time at HH ASS. If yes, take a test ride and check for unusual noises. Also check if the bike has had any accidents/falls. Fianlly , If everything is clean, go for it!

If you have finances to look out for than I would say get as thorough check done of even the smallest of things u can....

Coz zmas parts are heavenly priced....

Even punny little disc pads cost 1500-1600Rs....so if they were not changed prior to u buying the bike....add 1800Rs for disc pads..(including labor)
plus there would be other miniscule parts which would need change and they come at a price...

Thanks a trillion, will do that for sure...
What else can I check in the bike ?
I rode the bike with my hands off the bike, the bike went straight ... Didnt find any problem with the handling of the bike...

I spoke to other second hand dealer...
He said he has a Yellow Karizma R and quoted 50 k for it but there is some catch in it.
He says that the person who bought the bike never registered it and I was like
he said that he will get it registered and has asked me to contact him today... He says that the bike is in the showroom itself ...
I feel either its a stolen bike or its a bike used for test rides .... Comment

                              1. Deal or no deal, peace of mind is never a certain with IInd hand bike.
                              2. Selling your Pulsar and going for New Karizma makes sense.
                              3. With New Karizma you can easily get b/w 35-40 or worst case 30-35kmpl. One cannot predict used bike's mileage, need to run it and check.
                              4. Personally I request you to save for New Karizma.
                              5. Zma and Zma-R are same, except few styling/paint work. Mileage depends on various factors, a stock Zma-R on long highway drive at 70-80 kmph can give 40+ kmpl. In city conditions it wil be lower b/w 32 to 37 kmpl.
