  • Help With My First Bike

    Hello fellow xbhpians,
Im new here, to India and well to the whole biking scene as such, i know how to drive a bike but well thats about all i know about bikes.I live in Kerala and will soon be going to college and so have decided to buy a bike for city commuting.
Im 5'9 and weigh 62kg.This will be my first bike.
Im looking for a bike which(in no particular order):
    1)Looks good
    2)Handles Well
3)Has decent mileage (around 40 or so is fine)
4)Budget is not much of an issue , as long as the bike is good i am willing to spend.
5)Should be low maintainence and not have many problems.
6)Have a good pillion seat, I might have to take a friend along to college and back.
I am open to all suggestions but so far what I've seen and read about bikes my views are that FZ16/S is a good bike but i have doubts about the pillion seat,Apache RTR seems to suffer from ride killing vibrations and other problems,Pulsars , well there are too many of them hehe .
I was considering buying the Avenger as it looks great, seems to have a good seat but i dont know about its mileage or maintainence or other issues and specs.Same with the Karizma and R15, i dont know anything about them, so someone please shed some light there.
I have ruled out CBZ extreme, Hunk and Unicorn because well i just dont like them .
    Thanks in advance
May your wheels always turn underneath you, your roads unfold before you to new places, and may your heart sing on the breeze as you ride.

For a first bike, i guess Zma would suit u the best.

Avenger is also comfortable ; about the maintainence part, i think the Avy owners can help u out better.
When everything comes ur way, u r in the wrong way ;)

Put GS150R on your list. A test ride will clearly tell you the winner.

Well today a black R15 passed me by and i fell in love. But is it worth the price tag, i mean with p220 and karizma ,being cheaper does the 150cc R15 really stand up to them or would i be stupid buying one?
Is R15 just made for the track and for long drives or is it any good in the city? I read that it lacks low end torque, can this affect city driving .
Yamaha showroom guys told me it gives 50kmpl but uh well i dont believe them.
And is R15 any good for a pillion rider, be it male or female? Dont see any footpeg or guard there.Same for the FZ.
I cant find an Avenger at all so can anyone tell me its showroom price?

Also i guess ill rule out the apache as well , test drive left me shaky, salesman said its all abut feeling the power but well i dont share his opinion.
May your wheels always turn underneath you, your roads unfold before you to new places, and may your heart sing on the breeze as you ride.

Yes! You wont be stupid, neither we are!

Yes, it lacks the low end power. But its designed that way. Doesnt means that it does not has power. You have to ride it that way.
Its a great track tool but it can be used in worst traffic conditions also very comfortably. You just have to get used to it.

Pillion ride is good on R15.

                        I do not know.

I would say its a good bike (160 RTR carb). In our previous tour it kept well with us even on the highway and did a good 122 with still having some power left. As per vibes, it has, but at higher speed it reduces. But if you dont like it then just forget it.

                        go for R15. Cheers!

R15 is a very good bike. If you can afford it then go for it...

How come you don't see any foot peg???

                            forget apache rtr 180

R15 is a different class bike
as people say........ miles ahead in terms of technology then any other bike here
but bikes should serve the purpose rite.....
                            so it depends on u
if u think you can adapt to the seating position then its fine
otherwise a pain in the ass,,,,,,,, arms n much more
                            40+ mileage
                            not much comfortable for pillion

                            zma is good
ask people who own it about the majesty and joy of this bike
others can just say " ITS AN OLD HORSE........"
but the spare parts are costly
neither does it suit ur 40+ mileage
                            excellent low end torque
                            pillion comfort
                            very comfortable
                            low maintenance

                            P220
i am not much aware of it.........
but being a bajaj i doubt its reliability but as said
                            dont know much
                            loads of low end torque

                            avenger 200
a good and a very comfortable bike
                            costs around 74K
the only problem lies is that taking U turns is a headache
the bike has a long turning radius

about its reliability.......... i ve no idea again

whatever bike u buy,,,,,, keep a good budget for riding gears....... means safety accessories ( telling all this cause u told ur new,,,,, otherwise ignore it)...............like helmets , knee n elbow pads , guards , etc
for you and your pillion both
                            dont ignore it

                            ps:
                            @ mods
i think there should be a main thread for noobs
main thread because it is very much visible on the first page rather than deep inside other threads
this thread could only be manipulated by the moderators and others could only view them

which would contain sub threads containing information like
                            1. ABOUT RIDING GEARS AND THEIR NECESSITIES
                            2. ABOUT THE BIKING WORLD AS IN WHAT THINGS TO BE KEPT IN MIND
                            3. PRECAUTIONS
i am not able to frame it but hope you understood them

i think only MR.SUNNY can add a main thread on the first page
so i would request any moderator to inform him about this as a request
which would also do good to XBHP as a site which also spreads awareness and safety............
