  • HELP ME CHOOSE MY 1st BIKE!!

    Hi there

I recently came across this forum while researching on various bikes available.. must say.. X-BHP ROCKS!!

I am total newbie in biking ( rode a spendour 6 months back) though i am used to driving 4 wheelers.. but after listening to many of my friends experiences i have finally decided to take the plunge and now actively looking for the bikes on the offering by the indian market..

Now i really want X-bhp to give its verdict!!..

My daily run will be around 45-55km.. Budget is around 75k.. i live in Pune

My basic requiremnts (in order of pref)
    1-comfort
    2-reliablity
    3-good looks
    4-after sale support
    5-mileage 45+ is sufficient

After going through websites, reviews, friends opinons
i shortlisted the following (no order of pref here)

    1-Fz16/S
    2-Unicorn
    3-Pulsar 180
    4-Stunner

    Looking forward to your replies..

    DO HELP ME OUT!!

    CHEERS!!

    RISHI

P.S. My daily run will be around 80% on highway and 20% in city!

      Ok rishi seeing ur shortlist
1)FZ - is comfortable ,reliable ,good looks but mileage is around 40 and also many Yamaha service centres are not good .
2)Unicorn - Fits all your points but is a very old bike with a little outdated features and is also the slowest 150cc around .
      3) Pulsar 180 - great new bike with lots of power but riding 55kms with the clip-ons and rear sets can be Uncomfortable .
4)Stunner -Looks great with 60kmpl mileage as its 125 cc , if you are not looking for performance then this seems a good choice .

also look at the Suzuki Gs150 - its like an unicorn but with updated features like Leds ,digital speedo ,6 gears and little more power .
I would suggest go for Stunner Or Gs 150

        Hello Rishi.

I think you should have a look at the GS150 as well from Suzuki. Since nowhere have you said anything about performance I don't think that is a criteria for you.

I would also recommend you the Stunner (carb).

I will not suggest you Stunner......As far as Engine is conc i would ....But

Costly among other 125cc bikes -
No Digi Console, No Pilot Lights, No stock Crashguard, Low mileage compared to few other 125cc bikes, No Tacho, High pillion seat - not good for travelling with Mom or dad....

I would really suggest you to go for Pulsar 180 - New looks advanced styling - good for guys who want to both commute and also racing.....

If ur bored with Too much of pulsars - i would recomment Old is Gold go for Unicorn ---- Best city Cruiser if ur not a racer........

I would ask you not to go for any 125cc or 135cc bikes.....Go for 150 and above.......(Do not make the mistake that i made)

            Welcome to xBhp Rishi.
There are many many bikes that may suit your needs. There is really this no statement which says "this bike is better than that". Most of the bike have same specs but different in look and feel. With that being said FZ will suit your purpose. I own an R15 but FZ still feels fun with the wide handle bar and with a great feel.
Other options that you can consider are RTR (carb/FI), Pulsar 180 UG IV, GS150. GS is again something different that I could feel after taking a test ride. It was heavy but handled very well with the same big feeling. Do not forget to take test rides before buying anything. No point thinking 125CC. As per comfort that you've mentioned, you'll get used to any bike you ride, unless you're over 6' 5" tall

            Just my opinion, goodluck!

If you see different between Stunner with FI or without FI, the only thing changed is FI, color, handle bar weights and wing logo and it has increased 14k in the price, so it does not seem to be VFM even w.r.t. Stunner Carb version which itself is a wee over priced in its category.

                          For me:
                          Unicorn/GS fits for you.
As looks is at 3 preference, I weigh Unicorn over FZ for comfort and average. GS scores on looks over Unicorn.

I own an R15 which does not has a kick start. But never had a problem with that and will never have till the battery is good. Worst cases are always there but that can happen to any bike. I would say FZ/R15 is reliable enough to buy, otherwise why would they sell it just like that. If you want inside story then go through the FZ ownership thread as I do not own a FZ.

Originally posted by rishirazdan56 View Post

FI is something which brings smoother throttle response and power delivery. It will not give any kind of bump in the total power. The price factor of extra 14K is because its Honda technology which will not be cheap. So looking in that aspect I do not think its that worth. But I am sure if you ride a carb Stunner and an FI Stunner, you will surely feel the difference. But do you really want it, as its a smaller bike (125CC)? If you are happy with the performance/power of Stunner and want technology into it then Stunner FI will be fine. With a little more money you can get a RTR FI.
As said by Saurabh, "Unicorn over FZ for comfort and average". Its true! But FZ has a better feel while riding (personal opinion).
As I mentioned earlier, if you want a comfy commuter bike then there are many choices and you can buy what ever you feel like. The question arises when you want better power & feel. Ride it, feel it, buy it.

                            Enough said. goodluck!

sorry but to sum up in one line :SHEER WASTE OF MONEY *(imo)
