But I say, whats the point in having a bike if you can't use it?
The R15 is designed for daily use&we all use it that way. I agree, the chain is open, it squeaks&demands some lubing, mud flies all over it&spoils the beauty, but then you can always wash it!
As for damages, the max you might end up with is a scratch or two, which can be touched up for a couple of hundreds. Get the mainstand for the bike, it is stable enough.

One thing: It is not a SBK, it is just another bike, albeit much more expensive than the others. Here is what you can do:

    1. Don't ever park on the roadside, choose a safe parking spot.
    2. When in college, try to park it near walls or towards the end where most of the students won't even bother to go.
    3. Don't wash it everyday, just do it once a week on a Sunday or so. Dirty bikes attract least attention. Clean it on a weekend, ride it&forget about how it looks till the weekend. India is a dusty country&no matter how much you clean a vehicle, half an hour of parking in the open is enough to coat it with a layer of dust.
    4. Park with sufficient gap in crowded parking so that others don't bump your vehicle while parking/removing their bikes beside yours.
    5. Please do not install a security system or put a cover on the bike-this doesn't help, it only helps in attracting unwanted attention!

Just be a bit careful, not too careful! Over carefulness can cause harm as well!
Use a bike like what its meant for, trust me the R15 is not as delicate as you think it is. People here know what I have done&am doing with my R15. It can do everything any other bike does&with style!
I also have my old bike with me&I go with my Mom for grocery shopping on it (coz the R15 doesn't have a ladies'footrest), but I don't feel comfortable riding any other bike. Sooner or later I will mostly weld one onto it&use it for that as well.
If you wanna hang shopping bags onto the handle, it won't be possible, but there always is an option of using a small backpack!

Hope the above helped you to change your mind. Think of it, would you like riding an old 2nd hand bike when you have an R15!
well said bro....good writes there prety informative(thanks bro)

evn m facing the same problem as the topic starter .....i wud rather prefer to call myself as "i was a good rider",coz aftr i got my new zma things are nt at all going smooth at my end..i ws into stunts so thought of buying a bike in the priority of stunts and ws saving money fr an rx100 r 135 bt my my never let me buy it by giving me continuous problems and as of nw m in a position that i cnt evn drive a bike nor do anything with my hand.
my family and my friends started hating my bike fr that reason .....the thing is i always use to stay in my bikes world(most of the time) use to clean it daily ,moving out with a riding gear wenever i go out(i never wanted to showoff bt evryone use to ask me whether is that much of showoff needed wen evr u cum out )i never minded coz i prefer safety firsty.my mom always use to say me "nazar lagega beta dnt clean ur bike so much" i never believed in all those bt nw i started believing them to an extent, coz of the things happening around me.anyways its upto ones believes.
so my advice to u is to ride it in a normal way,dnt keep it at ur home n bring it out once in a while like a blue moon ,ride it as u drive a normal bike dnt go conscious with it coz its always dangerous, and as said above dnt clean ur bike regularly.

congracts fr ur new bike and ride safe

@silverblackvoid if you really like the RX why not hold of your purchase for a bit and save up and be a lil felxible with your budget and go for an RX since you already have another Yamaha in your possesion now. The RX series is a timeless design.

Also you have the late great Chuck Schuldiner's name under your nick so safelly assuming you are a death fan. \m/

Dude take your r15 to college. What's the point in riding a second hand bike when you have the r15? You can even attract a lot of attention from girls

                    @silverblackvoid

I had a poorly maintained RX135 for a couple of months and it was so much fun to ride. Infact even im thinking of getting a low budget used bike for city use and this thread has helped me.

OT: I too am a death metal fan.

dude i own a 09 R15 too and i use it for all purposes.. i go to office.. shop for things.. ride it in rain.. enjoy every bit of it and love cleaning it to shine.... its a part of ur life... R15 spares are pretty cheap too compared to many other bikes... i had a nasty fall and had to change the side fairing and the front glass doom.. all it cost me was 2900 bucks... think about it and use your R15 the way you want.

Btw if u want a RX100 i can give you the one i have .. its a 94 model.. haven't used it since 99.. but the bike if properly repaired by a good can be back to its new self. i can give you the RX for 10 k and the service i guess would cost you another 10k. think over.

makes more sense to get the same state reg bikes.i see you are from coimbatore, the OP is in bangalore. i have seen cops here catching & fining non KA Bikes. also convertion to KA costs about 4k,also needs a lot of running around

better he gets a RX 100 or a RX 135 from here itself & stay in peace

@arvindraju.. yeah u r right... i myself have faced this problem and have paid fine 2 times for riding a TN reg bike in KA. cops there are quite strict with this issue. It would make more sense if he got a KA bike itself.

                              @ topic starter

There are plenty of bikes available for around 10-15k, just make sure u pick Bajaj bikes like boxer/ct 100 etc.. they are really light on pocket when compared to others, having owned a boxer myself I must say it returns very handsome efficiency with least hassles...

Even i'm planning to buy some cheap second hand bike as i intend to modify my current ride to the most extreme level possible in terms of performance.. After that it wont be practical to use it daily so i intend to buy a second hand bike...
After lots of research I got many positive feedbacks regarding ct100 and boxer, So i'm buying a ct100 as i've already owned boxer and also because ct100 has an oversquare revving layout , its got the best performance in 100cc engines I tested so far i can say..
                              Fun Starts at Redline!!!

guys what should be the reasonable price for a second-hand boxer?
i dont care about the looks or anything. i just want it cheap....
