      my budget: Rs.10,000.

my requirements: any bike will do as long as it gives me mileage of around 40 kmpl. will it be possible to get a bike at my price point or should i opt for a second-hand scooter. which according to you guys is the better option?

      thanks.
I'd suggest, to stay with the R15 for college too.. C'mon, its not a bike you must keep parked in your home, unless you're tired of it (which you're not!)..
Take it to college man.. God forbid, but even if someone messes up with it, its not gonna cost you more than 10k (your budget for new bike) to refurbish it..

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

c'mon dude.... u got the best looking bike n u wanna to hide it..... not happening.... i wish i had R15..... never ever stopped taking it out.....

If u r worried abt dirt n messy traffic, then u will never take the bike out or u will never get experienced n impressed from it. Moreover, you have many options to keep ur bike clean n neat.

        Go for it.....

10k will be wasted.. use that if someone messes with the bike as said above..

Dude ... you seems to be like a person who reserves all the happiness you have , for later. (in fact "reserving for future" seems to be your happiness :P ).. with full respect to you and your worry about bike getting dirt let me tell you one thing ,

If you have R15 you have one of the best bike in India and it wont be justice to it if you hide it in your garage ,, . Just take it and use it .Take it anywhere you go . Treat it as an integral part of your life , Love it more than anything ,
Be attached to it .. It may get dirt but find pleasure in washing the bike ,
Enjoy the pleasure of cleaning the bike and making it shine as new , Every time after i wash(and wax) my bike , i will look her , she will be shining as new and i will be more than satisfied and love her more and take her for next ride with immense pleasure .
Once you do it you will find that there is a gr8 bond developed between you and your bike .. You will eventually not interested in riding any other bike bcz you will be so much in love with your bike ...Just try it at least for two weeks .
Dont worry about accidents and all , Ride safe nothing will happen . (even if bike got small scratches and all it wont cost you 10 k )
Take your R15 and go to collage ..If even after two weeks you feel not to take r15 to collage then only go for a second hand bike ..
Seeing your budget and requirment ..Go for suzuki samurai .. cheap , low maintance , FE above 40 , no complaint bike

guys i made a stupid post but i like ur replies! i really really like reading them
the reason i dont wanna take my bike to college is because our parking place is already crowded and during recess all the guys come and sit on the bikes(i know it happens in everywhere). i guess i'll have to change my perspective...

I just found out an old bajaj caliber and a suzuki samurai.
                    samurai is about Rs. 11000
                    caliber costs Rs. 9500

both of them are in average condition but i think i'll have to spend some more on servicing.

so, guys what do you suggest. which one will be a better option.

PS. my other reason for buying a second-hand bike is because of shopping for groceries...damn
my mom keeps asking me to shop for vegetables i cant do that with my R15

I would suggest Caliber. As it is four stroke so more mileage and less maintenance.
Bajaj parts you will get anywhere and lot of alternatives are available.

I agree wholeheartedly with these guys&also understand your predicament. I also know of one guy in xBhp Hyd who doesn't take his R15 to college for the same reason.

But I say, whats the point in having a bike if you can't use it?
The R15 is designed for daily use&we all use it that way. I agree, the chain is open, it squeaks&demands some lubing, mud flies all over it&spoils the beauty, but then you can always wash it!
As for damages, the max you might end up with is a scratch or two, which can be touched up for a couple of hundreds. Get the mainstand for the bike, it is stable enough.

One thing: It is not a SBK, it is just another bike, albeit much more expensive than the others. Here is what you can do:

                        1. Don't ever park on the roadside, choose a safe parking spot.
                        2. When in college, try to park it near walls or towards the end where most of the students won't even bother to go.
                        3. Don't wash it everyday, just do it once a week on a Sunday or so. Dirty bikes attract least attention. Clean it on a weekend, ride it&forget about how it looks till the weekend. India is a dusty country&no matter how much you clean a vehicle, half an hour of parking in the open is enough to coat it with a layer of dust.
                        4. Park with sufficient gap in crowded parking so that others don't bump your vehicle while parking/removing their bikes beside yours.
                        5. Please do not install a security system or put a cover on the bike-this doesn't help, it only helps in attracting unwanted attention!

Just be a bit careful, not too careful! Over carefulness can cause harm as well!
Use a bike like what its meant for, trust me the R15 is not as delicate as you think it is. People here know what I have done&am doing with my R15. It can do everything any other bike does&with style!
I also have my old bike with me&I go with my Mom for grocery shopping on it (coz the R15 doesn't have a ladies'footrest), but I don't feel comfortable riding any other bike. Sooner or later I will mostly weld one onto it&use it for that as well.
If you wanna hang shopping bags onto the handle, it won't be possible, but there always is an option of using a small backpack!

Hope the above helped you to change your mind. Think of it, would you like riding an old 2nd hand bike when you have an R15!
                        Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Maybe! How much do you guys think a decent used RX/RX 135 will cost in bangalore. I am really serious about getting one as a stable mate for my FZs and now I have some cash stashed away as well. And Bangalore guys please is it wise to go look for one in VV puram on that rd whre they have the host of second hand bike dealers or are they known to just rip me off there.

I got my RX from one of the dealers in VVpuram itself, needless to say it was a great deal, you just need to be lucky enough to get a good bike.

@yamatrooper pm aravindraju on the forum he is kinda closely associated to some dealers nowadays
