there are so many replies in this thread
No offense but i doubt how many of them have ridden a busa or a r1 for long to compare between them. Most of the ideas came from either magazines, television or internet. Do ask genuine persons only.
P.S -- this can be a OT, and i am not trying to question anyone's knowledge and experience.

i agree the busa is much better compared to the R1.. but i suggest you to consider other SBKs too like the Honda.. before you finalize anything just read through the below link.. Aryanda has done a great job regarding the Busa and for the R1 you can have all things cleared by Ken and Fireblah regarding honda. Finally the choice is yours.. good luck .

guys, but i searched the net only to find that many owners of the busa , have to change their tires at a max of 2.5k miles...
would be great is some Indian owner's could throw some light...
and the community has many r1 owners here , could they throw some light for the r1 as well....
thanks in advance...."It is not only the bike, but the design of the rider as well, that make's a complete package."

Depends on the tire compound and riding conditions but overall I think the Busa is very hard on it's tires and chain/sprockets. I had to change my BT-015s at just 3000 miles (cord was showing). I slapped on a Dunlop Qualifier rear with the BT-015 front and I had to change them both at 6000 miles...the front was already very worn at this time.Originally posted by umair View Postguys, but i searched the net only to find that many owners of the busa , have to change their tires at a max of 2.5k miles...

I'd say you will go through 2 rears and 1 front every 5000 miles in Indian riding conditions. You will also go through 1 set chain and sprockets in the same interval.
It is the price of all that power, torque and weight.Kriss : 15.06.1981 - 11.10.2009

The most sensible post through the thread!Originally posted by gsferrari View Post1. I don't believe Yamaha has stock of R1s at the moment...you may have to wait for a bit for the 2009 model. I wouldn't recommend the 07/08 model now that the 09 is out.
2. The Hayabusa is VERY different from the R1 in terms of the "feel" and "handling". It is more of a mile-muncher...designed for long distances at speed and comfort. I've done multiple 1000+ Km rides on the Busa with great results...not in India though. I cannot imagine doing that on an R1.
3. The Hayabusa is deceptively quick. On the R1 you get an amazing sensation of speed. On the Busa you have to keep an eye on the speedo because it urges you to go faster than advisable.
4. Both bikes attract waaay too much attention in India...both the right and the wrong kind. The wrong kind will tempt people to attempt theft, assault etc. and you may even come under the radar of young politically connected people who ride around on modified pulsars looking for trouble.
5. Both bikes overheat in traffic - your thighs will be edible after an hour in traffic.
6. Both bikes need premium fuels that are scarce
Keeping all these in mind - I suggest you save your passion and desire for a country that will allow you to ride these bikes the way they were meant to be ridden. If you have no plans of leaving India - get a big-bike that is usable everyday...but has the performance to keep you happily ahead of everything else on the road...

1.Crossplane crankshaft. (If you know what it is). It is the first time that real MotoGP tech comes on the roads.
2.Because it has the above, it has an uneven firing order. And thus the growl of the 09 R1 makes other Sbks alongside sound like whimpering Pulsars... or nearly!
3.The Bore X Stroke is also different. 09 is a larger bore with a shorter stroke.
4.It is a new Deltabox twin spar this year. Apparently handling is even sharper. And this has made the bike narrower and far more compact. Compare the width specs of the two R1s, between the 07-08 and the 09.
As far as tyre wear goes, I use 2CT and they last me 8000kms. When I get my 3rd rear, I get my 2nd front.
I have done 19K kms. My chain will be soon due for a replacement. Another long trip and I have to get it chained! Maybe another 3K or thereabouts.Last edited by ken cool; 09-01-2009, 02:00 PM.The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

And oh yes... I forgot to add in my last post... the R1 has the Drive Mode Selector as well.Originally posted by Samarth 619 View PostMoreover, Busa has that Drive Mode Selector, which makes it easy to ride under various conditions, even in Wet Weather to some extent. The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

This was a little too much, according to me.Originally posted by ken cool View PostBecause it has the above, it has an uneven firing order. And thus the growl of the 09 R1 makes other Sbks alongside sound like whimpering Pulsars... or nearly!
The 09'R1 sounds like the MotoGP bikes alright, but calling other bikes' exhaust notes (be it the 4-cylinder litre class Japs, or your favourite, the all-shaped [L, inline, etc. cylinder] Italians!) as 'whimpering Pulsars' is not fair, really.
Your R1 has completed 19,000kms. already!? Wow! Congratulations.Originally posted by ken cool View PostI have done 19K kms.
I say that, because in this country there are hardly any SBK riders who munch so many miles on their SBKs. They usually tend to sell it off for the so called 'better' and 'newer' models after, probably, showing off their SBKs during weekends here and there for a few months.
On the other hand, most of those 19,000kms. that your R1 has done were on 'real' rides (be it in the city or inter-city/state).
Congratulations, once again!
I am really elated to hear that about the R1.

It seems that there is no comparison in the exhaust notes. Remember the 200 kms test ride by Rossiter in the crashed xBhp? He talked about it.Originally posted by Aryan View PostThis was a little too much, according to me.

! We need that...
I must admit I have a congenital inclination towards Spiti. Am willing to go there or encourage people to go there on whatever means of transport they deem fit.
