Go for p220,its much much powerful than fz16 and has hot pulsar goodies too like projectors,dual-horns,front-rear disc brakes, maintainance free battery etc....
If u like fz looks too much, then go for fz-16.

Ain't both these bikes from totally different category?? Except may be price which is about 10k diff.

In any case after P150, FZ won't be a power upgrade but all looks upgrade while P220 will be an overall upgrade.
          So in the simplest term:
          - want to have a looks upgrade for style - FZ16
          - want to have a power + looks + big bike feel + touring capabilities - P200

Both bikes are as different as chalk and cheese. First decide where you will be riding these bikes and then decide accordingly. The p220 is a good tourer while the Fz-16 is a potent city tool. Also refinement, smoothness and build quality differs for both these machines. And most importantly take a TD and then decide.

I am surprised people are almost instantly suggesting P220 over FZ. Yes, without doubt if you consider performance/price factor then definitely P220 is on top, considering its a 220cc, 21bhp motorcycle.

BUT...here are few things I would like to mention which are arguably better in FZ compared to P220 and these things are related to overall ride quality of the motorcycle on different riding conditions that India has, please :--

-- FZ16/FZ-S/Fazer is better equipped when it comes to chassis/suspension combination. What I mean is, the FZ series have better chassis, suspension package than P220. The Yamaha has the fattest front forks among Indian bikes of 41mm which perform almost as good as they look. Give a closer look to the swingarm, and you will notice that the Yamaha again has a good beefy swingarm. Combine it with a monoshock rear suspension and I don't need to write the advantages here

-- FZ series, again, arguably offer better overall ride quality than the P220 on varied road conditions thanks to point 1. The first and the widest radial, tubeless rear tyre is lighter and functionally also better than the one in Bajaj.

-- The Yamaha is one of the lightest bikes to handle in city traffic, which is a boon in itself. The Pulsar series have always been heavy handlers, and Bajaj haven't been able to do much about it so far!

-- Even if you tour regularly, you can't avoid riding a bike in a city. And the Yamaha would be much more relaxing without doubt.

-- Very important...the FZ series are better handlers than any pulsar made to date. Period.

-- The only positives P220 have over the FZ series is the project headlights, which are best in business and its power, thats it!

-- On a personal opinion, I believe that all the avatars of FZ are quite well justified on money front too, yes, according to me

However, both are different motorcycles, and the choice between the two shouldn't be very difficult if power is the only criteria for you. Otherwise, if money is not a problem, then I would suggest go for any of the FZ series, you will be a happy man.

Take the power quotient out, and FZ is a better motorcycle according to me. And believe me, in city traffic a decently powerful, light motorcycle will be more effective in many situations...Think about it

k2cool, Apart from seeking instant recommendations from xbhpians, I suggest you to go through FZ/P220 DTSi ownership threads and spend good time, you'll be in a better position to reason for your selection...

                      Well said and heard..
Final verdict : p220 is a clear winner in every aspect!
Though handling, breaking and looks are good enuf on Fz too..
But finally Fz is all about look Looks and Looks!!

So i guess p220 ug4 is the choice for you!

P.s. I am a yamaha fan still after riding a fz and fastest indian both the final verdict for me is always the one mentioned above!

Thats a load of baloney! See think of the FZ as an SUV she handles like she is on rails, you can lean into a corner at 50 - 60 kmph on a wet surface and come out darting out with severe corner speed and a grin as wide as the River Amazon. And the bulid quality is impecable i dont have vibrating or shaking parts even after riding over harsh terrain and bumps which you hardly feel thanks to the FZ's awesome suspension in the last three months . Yes she does not have the top end speed but how often are you riding at 135 kmph on a daily commute? But with the meaty mid range and the flickabilty the FZ has you can get ahead of any traffic clog up with ease.

If these factors apeal to you go for the FZ. If it is the 'Fastest Indian' tag you are after well you have the P220.

End of the day it between the 'Lord of the streets' and the 'Fastest Indian' I chose to be the lord.

                        Peace

                          One weird comparison here....

Go for Pulsar 220 if you want sheer performance...

Go for FZ, if you want a Yamaha......!

                            Havnt i mentioned this already??
Handling and breaking wise Fz is better, while the p220 "UG4" follows very Closely.
Remember - UG4 is way better than the rest pulsar series (except the all time hero P200) when it comes to handling, breaking, cornering etc etc
Looks-nothing questionable about both the bikes.
Now except this u can leave everything behind(INCLUDING Fz) on Signal GP with the ample power of p220 in every gear.

Build quality-salute! to Fz. Its good no doubt.
Flicable - both are good in this department. P220 hav extra 9kgs here but the great amount of initial torque covers those extra kgs
For FZ- all the torque is only in initial gears.
Mid range power delivery is just okay with the bike huffing for quick acceleration after 60's
And after 80 it takes ages to cross 100 with respect to p220 and r15.

Whearas P220 delivers good acceleration in each gear right from 1st and on..

This is it now choice is upon u.
One more thing if u are 5'8 or above then P220 adds another PLUS here.

FZ is no where near to P-220 so go for P-220
