  • Budget : 40-45k...which bike???

I know this would sound a bit strange as here usually people compare performance bikes...had that been the requirement I wouldn't even had raised a thread for the same as we all know extensively about 150-220cc ones...

    Following is my requirement :

    Need a 100/125cc bike @ a price range og 40-45k max OTR

    Requirements:

    1. Should be the best VFM in its segment.
    2. The bike being for a senior person(aged 54) doesn't exactly need a kick-ass acceleration but should have a gud enough mileage.
    3. Lighter the better but no XCD125/Platina
    4. Would be used in hilly area with lots of slopes(= lot of gear shifts) but gud tarmac & negligible traffic.
    5. Should not look too ugly for a youngster to ride at times
    6. Maintenance should not be a pain in the a**

Any kind of help is appreciated...

P.S : I like honda stunner the most in this section but can't go for that as it would be used by a senior person and not a youngster.

Go for the discover 100. It will give good mileage and also looks nice. Maintenance will not be a problem either.

                I agree too.

the Discover 100's got good mileage, looks good and sturdy and also got nice features like 5 gears, DC lighting, Nitrox shock absorbers and oh yes a Self Start as a standard feature.

                Can't ask for more at 40-45 K

Other options are Hero Honda Splendor, TVS Star City and Yamaha Alba. Walk into showrooms, take test ride to decide.

Honda Shine 45k otr for the version with self start and alloy wheels, Good looks, Nimble and Torquey. It looks good and is very reliable too.

All bikes are decent.. however the self start is a feature missing form the Splendor NXG and both the TVS Star City and the Discover 100 provides it.

Discover also has DC lighting.. which is a thoughtful feature to have.

Yeah this is a very nice feature + 5 gears + nice tail light...

but Honda Shine at 45k OTR...is it????

I doubt it...if so then I guess its one of d best bets...i have ridden it and it gives a Unicorn like feel which would be best bet for daily commuting...

The Best VFM in this segment is Discover 100 dts-si for sure..
                          1)amazing fuel efficiency
                          2)5 gears
                          3)gas rear shock absorbers
4)comfortable for Long distance commuting too
                          5)great looks

But since you are saying you are buying the bike for an elderly person, his first criteria will be reliability and after sales service. So you should also take a look at
                          1)Hero honda 100 cc's(there are a million versions of them i guess)
2)TVS star city ES- This bike has a stunning mill and is very reliable.

So tell him to take a test ride of these bikes and let him choose the one which he finds comfortable. cheers!!

Go for Discover 100 as everybody suggested
Discover 125/Shine would be your second option

Hey buddy plz don't call yourself " GAREEB " ....

Hmm according to what I have heard and read ,

The disco 100 is a XCD 125 engine with a different state of tune .
So if you dont want XCD 125 then better avoid disco 100 .
Also after coming to know from a fellow XBHPian L.P. that XCD 125 does lack pulling power with pillion i.e., very less and not upto the mark ( the latter part of the sentence i have written just to try and explain ) . And indeed he was correct because after that read quite a few reviews of the XCD 125 .
So the disco which has less CC than the same parent engine would be more weaker .
And as you mentioned bike would be used on Ghats , then I think it would be difficult going up .

                              PS :
I dont know how do other 100 / 125 cc bikes perform on ghats .
Just that I know something on the Discover 100 so thought for sharing .
And I am talking on purely judgement basis based on reviews and info I had.I may be wrong . Hope this info helps , do take others reviews and advice also .
                              Best of luck
