if you are into racing or high speed cruising then definately get the p220..

But FZ is the best city machine..

I have used P220 of my friends... the button on the machine are made of cheap quality.. the headlight is the best...

you will get a power upgrade and much more torque but also a big bike.. I have had problems in cutting traffic with that bike...

    for stunting FZ rocks...

it definately depends on your choice...

when going for the FZ you should have payed 4-5k more for the P220 that time only

my friend P220 gives 20-25 mileage and my fz gives 35-40..

the choice depends totally on your usage
Riding, loving and enjoying my lord of the streets.. FZ-S...

And dreaming of an R6/R1/FZ1/CBR 1000RR

@Santoosh - thanks for the lovely explanation...simply perfect this"9.VFM (more headache for less price :-D)"

@krates - actually the problem is with touring for 200km or more....
FZ isnt for that....expected too much from a perfect city bike...
And P220 carb wasnt launched when i bought FZ....

@satan69 - man...that other bike gives half the mileage of your bike...
        be careful...

          @ NOVICE
If I didnt had an R15 then I would have had a FZ16. That says a lot.
          FZ is 'far' more fun!!!

If you want a bike for commuting while looking good buy the FZ, for any other uses buy the 220. It has bugs but I have never regrated buying it.

@satan69-yes brother, thats the only way to help this poor guy!

I gun the throttle, the motorbike wails, the forks heave up, the revs climb, my view blurs, air gushes in my lid, muscles tighten, street lights streak. Just another day at work...

all i can say a 220 is far and way better than the fz16..
@UNDERGROUNDRIDER-Bro, i respect your opinion, but comparing the Pulsar220 to an fz16 is like comparing an exotic to a regular!
hell, we dont just want POWER, we want better quality tyres, radials, a strong competent chassis, and a MODERN mono suspension, you just cant compare these two machines, as one shines in the power figures(P220), the other shines in equipment and quality levels(fz), so do go deep before you come to a conclusion,
and i may remind anyone going overboard and opposing me, that i am no pulsar hater and i own one myself....so do keep those flames away! cheers

dont tell me about the tyres and rims of fz 16...they are PATHETIC....MISERABLY DUMB.....main reason i sold off my fz...a small pothole and my rim gets bent..small rocks and my tyres get cracked....you can check my orkut comm...many users are now planning to file a consumer case too...and people say we cant complain about yamaha cause they are making these rims and tyres with respect to bike's performance...i say make any product in for India with respect to Indian roads....p220 rims are the best i have seen...rock hard and sturdy...went inro numerous potholes wantedly and not even a single bend till date

regarding quality...its low too...my left side tank paint has got a black smooth finish because of my jeans it seems...because i use my gears with my left leg and in the process move my leg a little on the tank and so the paint has gone...and many other probs...i used to be in yamaha service centre for one prob or other...for p220 i have been to service centre only for servicing and for cdi replacement, left switch console replacement and air fliter sensor replacement...thats it

@ Buddy, i can write a bible, if I were to speak of the problems faced with a Bajaj Pulsar, and your misfortune with the FZ16 is just down to your riding, cuz my fz aint giving me ANY problems, 1 year down the lane!

As for p220 rims, you saying they are sturdy,,,,huh,,,bro m a stunter, i know the p220 rims, heck, all pulsar rims are prone to getting misaligned in crashes, my fz has been through 3 crashes and still no problems,

And lastly about the Comsumer Complaint bit, if i were to show you the complaints done with Bajaj bikes, they would outnumber the FZ 4 to one!

Every bike has it's weakness, accept them, where FZ shines, the 220 fails, where a 220 shines, the FZ fails,
                      Be a FAIR CRITIC!

And thats my opinion, so m not looking forward to any arguments either!

                      PEACE!

I gun the throttle, the motorbike wails, the forks heave up, the revs climb, my view blurs, air gushes in my lid, muscles tighten, street lights streak. Just another day at work...

LOL every bajaj bike has platina indicators, even the biggest 220dtsi, cost cutting+cheap parts=P220

The pulsar's rear disc has been critisized for lack of 'feel'..so no brownie points earned on the rear disc either!

Bajaj failed with it's Fi technology, thats why it launched the p220 without Fi, for me, a motorcycle enthusiast, who appriciates new technology on Indian motorcycles, thats a huge dampner!

No Mono suspension, i hate bikes without monoshocks, i want something which feels like a superbike, with sbk features, even if it aint fast enough, i wud buy the r125 over the p220 anytime, yeah! don't be surprised, thats my opinion!

The word 'Japanese' strikes a neat chord in my head, cuz they are the pioneers of Bike technology and always on the forefront! And Japanese will be japanese, no matter what Bajaj does, Japanese bikes will always be ahead in technology!

The Pulsar still has that ugly fuel tank 7-8 yrs after production! Just hate that bit!

Bajaj Locks are the Worst in business, and the aftermarket parts are downright cheap and LS!

Projector headlamp is an unessecary luxury for our roads, they blind incoming traffic, especially after morons put them on high beam
Ask any FZ owner, if the headlight of the FZ is inadequete!

The paint finish on the fairing wears out quickly, just cross check this with the owners!

FOR ME THE FZ16 with a 200cc engine to blow the socks of the 220 is a dream, that i wish Yamaha will hear, and then this argument would be a lot different!

the above points hold no base for debate...these are all how you feel...i think you might be lucky that you got an fz which survived 3 crashes...i am lucky that i got a 220 which survived everything i threw at it and which i know that an fz can't...i had one 1 year 15k kms down the lane too buddy...forget about stunting..i am saying about daily road use and highway use..and who said FI failed...bajaj merely wanted to gain profits and shares..thats why they removed the FI unit and made it available at the rate of a bike without FI..

                          heres a little heads up

                          orkut -

regarding the rear disk, generally many owners dont know the correct way of using one..one has to periodically press and leave the brake levers to get uneven grooves on the pads...hence braking will be effective..mine are way too good to prove this point..and i love it

all your points are on the basis of what you feel and what you like..we have our own likes and dislikes too..i might have posted a little too hyper but many of fz owners and myself have been frustrated with fz over the year since we use it extensively and the bike couldnt take it..the only area where i see fz shining is its handling..its pure awesome at corners..wouldnt dare a 220 like an fz at those corners...

                          Peace

^^HAHAHA...get the facts checked before you sling mud buddy.

I would not want to argue and start brand wars here.

@the thread starter: If you have a bike and you are loving it, why change it? The 220 and FZ are potent machines in their respective segments.
You have to decide whether the legs on your FZ are weak for your liking to jump in for the fastest Indian.
As for the "Japanese build better; Japanese are blah blah blah"...that is all hearsay and old school thought. Check some of the TVS and Bajaj bikes in the lower segment and you will know how these manufacturers are giving "others" a run for their money.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

sticking to topic i would say choose accoording to your needs...if you ride in city and if you are happy with fz why change it...if you are into touring and stuff then i would suggest you a new 220 dude...cause your friend might not have maintained the bike properly or something...if he has ripped right from day one,it wont be good later...

regarding the rear disk, generally many owners dont know the correct way of using one..one has to periodically press and leave the brake levers to get uneven grooves on the pads...hence braking will be effective..mine are way too good to prove this point..and i love it

all your points are on the basis of what you feel and what you like..we have our own likes and dislikes too..i might have posted a little too hyper but many of fz owners and myself have been frustrated with fz over the year since we use it extensively and the bike couldnt take it..the only area where i see fz shining is its handling..its pure awesome at corners..wouldnt dare a 220 like an fz at those corners...

                                Peace

You took the words out of my mouth man.

See I understand what it is like being a fan. Why do you think I have such distaste for the FZ series? It is not because I am a pulsar fan. It is because I am a yamaha fan who feels betrayed. After launching bikes which are the pinacle of performance they have launched the FZ.

Threadstarter: Kindly test ride the 220 before making a decision.
