its not like i hate fz dude...i am not the guy who is a fan for something...if problems arise later in my 220,i will tell others not to go for it and what a crap it is...i am saying what i have experienced and what other's experienced..fz is good for city riding..but they should have created strong rims for Indian roads.what good is a bike when it cant survive the basic conditions of Indian roads..i was apprehensive about getting a 220 because of everyone saying bajaj is bad and all but after meeting many guys and seeing their maintenance both good and bad, realised that everything depends on the intensity of maintenance...a bajaj product may require double the maintenance of a yamaha product but it does its work..till now 8000kms done on my 220 in 3months and its still good as new.

Ya man...m gonna test ride it today..... The thing is that i have loved the FZ for my city usage but now when i started long distances....i found it
inadequate to keep up with my frnd on ZMA, R15 etc....
So i am thinking of changing it AS i cant keep both the bikes...
        eventhough i would like to...

Yes bro...i think i remember that Moron saying proudly...how his brand new out-of-the-showroom P220 did some 136 on the ODO....

Dude stick to your FZ. You have run her in your own way and know what she is. A non brand new bike is a non brand new bike, what ever the argument be. You are aware of the plus and minuses of your FZ and have probably learnt to work around them. Getting a 220 just to keep pace with your friends on occasional highway runs makes no sense.

Well thats a genuine problem bro. If you dont do much touring then you should stick with FZ16 else you have no option but to move to a more powerful bike like a P220. FZ is not for tourers anyways.

I would advise you a new 220, not your friend's old one, more so because its a Pulsar220
See even i followed motoman run in, doesnt mean am a moron, its not about redlining engine in every gear and hitting top speeds just out of the showroom. I allowed engine to cool after runs, changed oil very earlier and never redlined engine till 500 kms, just 6-7K RPM bursts.

Dont know how your friend maintained the bike, its best to have a new bike, you will need to stretch the budget a bit but try.

Bro, u are true to the last word, thefz sure lacks performance per puond, but it is a sensible city bike for a person who does'nt want to go overboard with cee cees!

There is no point in comparing a 153cc to a 220cc bike!
both are made for different riders!

I agree with satan that the engine of the FZ feels weak and underpowered! but lets n ot forget the aspects the FZ is good at!

FRANKLY i would advise the Maderator to close this thread as the starter has dissapeared, and we are argueing to help a ''GHOST get a bike!

Sorry if i offended any of the Pulsar lovers, as i am a pulsar lover myself!

I gun the throttle, the motorbike wails, the forks heave up, the revs climb, my view blurs, air gushes in my lid, muscles tighten, street lights streak. Just another day at work...

If you buy the 220, I suggest that you stick to the general run in instructions . U can find the pulsar run in guide somewhere on this site. I found it immensely useful.

I would not want to argue and start brand wars here.

@the thread starter: If you have a bike and you are loving it, why change it? The 220 and FZ are potent machines in their respective segments.
You have to decide whether the legs on your FZ are weak for your liking to jump in for the fastest Indian.
As for the "Japanese build better; Japanese are blah blah blah"...that is all hearsay and old school thought. Check some of the TVS and Bajaj bikes in the lower segment and you will know how these manufacturers are giving "others" a run for their money.
Bro, i respect you bieng patriotic and passionate for Indian companies,
but when it comes to performance bikes, i just Love the japanese!

My facts don't matter, niether yours, what matters is the ultimate descision of the buyer!

Peace bro, i agree on the fact that the built quality of commuter bikes is a downer, in the case of japanese bikes!

I heard a phrase, "''Be indian Buy Indian"'
If these guys think they can help india buy buying Indian products, they are morons, that will only make Indian companies richer, increasing the income gap between the rich and the poor! If you Buy a Bajaj, you are not helping India, but you are making Rahul Bajaj 70k richer!....if you really want to help our country, try to give CHARITIES instead for the poor, hungry and the dying! but Thats not reguarding this thread!

Thats all i have to say,
                    PEACE! (please)

am not telling that the fz's engine is weak...its good enough to give other 150cc bike's a run for their money..its just that i dont like the general idea of guys telling fz is better than 220 cause its YAMAHA and 220 is BAJAJ..so fz is better than 220..

@Novice... why don't you go for a brand new P220?
its a really hard decision to make... for only 5000Rs less? you can definitely stretch your budget a lil more and buy a new P220...
i never prefer a second hand bike even its a 500kms old one...

if you want a more powerful/higher CC bike, you can also wait for the Auto Expo 2010... may be more thrilling bikes with higher CC's will be launched...

                            ayoooo what a predicament..

A normal commuter or even poser kinda guy would be satisfied with the 'bird in hand', but you're on xBhp with not so normal but passionate ppl, each with his own priorities about what's important in a bike, so your query is justified.

If you can somehow be assured that the bike is in good condition (from a good mechanic that you know) then I suggest you go for it. It's something that your heart wants but your mind is battling against, and biking is a matter of the heart

Won't say FZ is bad, or P220 is good. I'm just basing my choice on my ride experiences on both, I felt better overall riding the P220 than the FZ (for all the good/bad points, of both), but that's just me, not necessarily the majority of opinion. You'll have to do some research on the service and maintenance aspects of Bajaj, from experiences of owners. As you can see you have an example in satan69in here, and he too suggests P220 over FZ.

I suggest that you go in for the 220. You have tasted blood with the Fz and the P220 gives you everything that the Fz won't (read:more top-end). One thing though ... you might want to get that 220 checked up by a good mechanic for flaws in the engine due to many reasons (read:harsh running-in). If there are serious probs in the bike then you may even opt for a brand new 220 as suggested by the other members earlier in this thread.

A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.
