Got my bike today. I am a noob when it comes to riding a geared bike. It got switched off when I was driving slowly.
I am scared to rev it hard during the initial run in period.
I really wish there was a gear indicator in this like in the Suzuki GS 150R.. would have made my life much much simpler..
Guys, a very very basic question for you:
when to shift gears? I mean I will know when to upshift, but while downshifting I won't know whether to brake in the same gear and pick it up from there or do a down shift. The bike doesn't do more than 10kmph in the first gear - revvs at 5k. Is it normal?
The bike suddenly stopped when I was riding in like 3rd gear and slowed down. WHen should I apply the clutch? I tend to hold the clutch whenever I am driving slow as I am scared where it will get switched off..
Some basic biking tips, please..

lol its like.. u put the first gear n go for a few secs.. once u reach like 12 kmph or something u will feel the engine crying, go to 2nd gear.. when ever u feel like ur engine is giving more sound n less speed ,go for the next gear.
also gear down properly... 40 - 5th.. .30- 4th , 20-25-3rd gear...n 12-20 2nd gear... n just press clutch when ever ur vehicle goes out of control .. that happpens when u go at low speed at higher gears...

Its like a rule of thumb... when riding in any high gear.. at moderate rpms.. you need to downshift each time you press brakes for more than 1 second. The higher the time the brake was kept pressed, the more no. of gears you need to downshift. This is not true for urgent braking / panic stops in which case you will have to downshift all the way down to 1st gear.
Anyways.. its not as complicated as i made it sound. You will get the knack of it eventually. So, Ride safe... wear a helmet.Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Last night me and ma friend gone for a ride...
Mine is a p220 dtsi and his a brand new rtr 180.
RTR 180 is very beautiful in metalic white.
It got awsome throttle response.
But The Bike suffered from a problem. the throttle increases when the handle rotates towards right. bike is just a week old. I think the accelerator cable is stuck somewhere .
The bike will never let u down if you like speed and acceleration.
Advantages
----------------------------
1. Great throttle response.
2. Good looks
3. Good handling.
4. short turning radius (compared to my p220 F)
5. Extremely flickable.
6. Light bike, great in city ride.
7.Superb braking.
Disadvantages
----------------------------
1. Poor ride quality.
2. Lack of refinement.
3. Vibrations are too much(for me), starts at60kmph.Vibrations extends to pillion's foot rests as well.
4.Poor rubber.
5. Headlamp is not effective.
6. ac Electricals.
7.Switch gear is not good as pulsar's.
8.Not as stable as a pulsar on a windy Highway.(a light bike)
Recommended Upgrades
-----------------------------------
1. Upgrade the rubber to soft compound MRF zappers (or pirellis if u can)
3. Upgrade the head lamps. (Please don't fit an HID without projector, try osram night breaker).
Verdict
----------------------
I am a speed maniac. The performance of RTR 180 is awesome.
Go for it if u can live with the vibrations. I dot like the vibrations because its irritating for long rides. I will always prefer a pulsar for the ride quality.
But if u ask , Yes its a good bike to buy inspite of its vibrations.
